Don't want a builder to be able to claim that motor because the build spec is just too valuable to your factory team? Then don't bring it to a fucking amateur race!
I agree 1000%! It doesn't fucking matter who was going to do what with it after purchase. It's not their bike anymore. Once they showed their cards, the only way that claim wouldn't have gone through was if they handed me a $50,000 stack of cash.

I want to hear from Burkeen, but what happened around Walker’s camp is where the real story is but its me against you there.

The fact that a claim was thrown down and then pulled smells fishy.

The kid says he even told Cotter that it was NOT his own idea to rescind the claim and that he was being forced. What a load of shit for Cotter to turn around and tell Weigandt "the kid said he was not pressured."

Even Weigandt is caught in the crosshairs on this one, he's a journalist for Racer X and spread false information on the biggest radio show due to him not doing proper research.

The line gets very thin here. In the moment the kid may have said he wasn't pressured, he may have not said it wasn't his own idea but is now saying it.

It's one's own words versus another.

I'm not saying either is lying, I'm just saying to take one person's words as fact over the other without a witness or other form of proof is tough. At that point, it's just making your own opinion of the situation and going with it.

As an add on from my original response. I think we've all been there when young and under pressure. He may have wanted to say more in the moment but just tried to get through it without creating much more of an issue...and is now more comfortable talking about. I know I've been there and I'm sure many can relate, especially around that age and when dealing with more adults.
Doesn’t matter what he said. He’s a minor and these adults have no business talking to the kid without his parent present. It’s ridiculous and makes MX Sports look like a joke. Not to mention a big black eye on future LL’s. Why would anyone want to dump all that money into a race that you now know is rigged towards the factory teams?
Oh and go ahead and try to get Deegan’s kid in a room by himself to “just talk”. Good fucking luck.
I’m sure this story is far from over…. Looking forward to more of it.

I've been a lifelong Yamaha fan and supporter. I was looking at getting a 2023 YZ450F to replace my '18 YZ450F. But after this bullshit behavior, Fuck Yamaha. I'll never buy another bike (or anything) from them for the bullshit behavior they displayed in this situation. What a bunch of wankers.

Time to start riding other manufacturer bikes and look for my next ride, which won't be a Yamaha. Bunch of whiny little bitches. Turning the sport into a Jerry Springer Show.

And fuck the Deegans, never root for them either.
Dude I hate to say it but I was literally going to roll into Young Motorsports and ask about deposit/trade for the new yz. Going with original plan and trading it for either the ‘24 Honda or Kawi WE.

Idc how good a bike is or will be, I can’t support that against a private amateur. I just fucking can’t.

So DC starts out saying he doesn’t know the story and then a couple paragraphs later he knows the kid wasn’t pressured, Cotter has NO interest in protecting Star from getting their bike claimed, and now slow old guy is back in the room, only because it’s loud with all the helpers in the trailer. Oh yeah also Deegan has every right to be in the room but the kid can only have his dad in the room, not another adult….

Absolutely planned on the new 23 so much so I have the deposit info from my dealer in my in box.

Even told my graphics guy make a set for the new 450.
That said I will sit back and take in what ever is shared over the next several weeks.
So much to not like about what this looks like.

I'm definitely on the kid's side and I think he should own that bike, but there were a few holes in his story. He's so articulate that you have to at least consider that he might have been coached in some areas. Still not a good look for Cotter or Yamaha at all.

I'm right there with ya. I'm shopping online for bikes right now. I plan to ride a buddy's GasGas tomorrow now, just sent him a text about it. I'm looking at a new Honda, Husky, or GasGas. My first dirt bike as a kid was a YZ80 and have been a lifelong Yamaha fan for +40 years. I have owned a couple other manufacturer bikes but have always had a Yamaha in the garage. Not going to support a company that behaves in this way.

Strong arming the kids sponsor dealership.....pfffft Fuck'em, that's complete bullshit

Employees involved should all be put on administrative leave effective immediately and then terminated effective pending investigation and verification of what took place.

What worries me most is this kid is likely to be retaliated against and probably black balled. It's really sad, seems like a smart and intelligent young man.

What I find pathetic is that someone needs a full factory bike to race an amateur B class.

LMFAO, Brilliant!

I've been steaming over this since watching the clip and your post captured a lot of my same sentiments towards Yamaha, Star Racing, and the Deegans.

I can only hope every Star Yamaha blows up this weekend (along with any hopes of another title) as a little karma comes around the corner to bite them in the ass...............

And the Deegan clowns? Hope your soap opera drama chasing is short-lived so we don't have to watch much more of your rubbish.

Brand loyalty is a funny thing, and its insanely hard to break.

But damn, Yamaha just jumped the fucking shark. Never thought this day would come in my lifetime.

Hell, I even have a Yamaha tow-hitch cover. Gonna offload that thing on Ebay ......

When “amateurs” are making six figures “travel” money, they deserve to have factory bikes. Wish this was the straw that broke the camels back and put the amateur back into LL, but doubt that genie is ever going back in the bottle

Hard not to think anything but negatively about MX Sports after everything they have done this summer. This is the cherry on top of the whole mess. I'm guessing DC is going to be mia from Vital for a long time now

After watching the video, I think the kid is 100% credible. Brian Deagan and Cotter in a room alone with a 17 year old minor for 30 minutes? Let that last sentence sink in..... Holy fuck fuck fuck. That really makes me sick. Even more than the half dozen other disgusting things that occurred. I believe this young man is telling it truthfully how it went down. Sickining.

Thought dc clarifying the length of the meeting didn’t address the massive power imbalance with Brian being in there , with not waiting for the kids dad to be in that meeting , I have been an offical in many meetings and there is no way I wound let a 17 year old with out support have a meeting with anyone adult , , let alone a heavy hitter like deegan

I don’t think Cotter handled himself well here , but think what walker and the Yamaha rep did was appalling,

The only hole I can think of is where was his father when he was in that room? I can’t believe that nobody asked “where is your dad?” I originally assumed his dad wasn’t at LL but he was. Hopefully he will have another interview and he gets asked where his dad was while all this was going on…not that it changes anything but it’s the only hole I can think of.
