Not one time did I hear, “I know a lot of people risked their necks and spent money trying to help get me straight and I let them down and for that I’m very sorry” Wish the dude all the best with his recovery as it is a life long battle, but Nico Izzi is the only person Nico Izzi cares about. Had a great outlet there to reach the industry people be burned and what does he say? “This industry is hard to break back into once you tarnish your name.” 😂 what a punk.

Thought it was cool he came to WI to get his life back on track until he screwed over those helping him (literally and figuratively) stealing from many and getting kids that looked up to him to do drugs with him. Only saving grace was seeing local riders beating the former factory rider

The worst part about the story is the way some people in the industry treat a fairly high status former rider. The fact that nico can get out of jail and call this person or that person and have a place to stay, a bike to ride. He’s already ruined other peoples families and spent time in prison being floated through the couch surfing moto bro lifestyle. What he needs more than anything at this point is to find a job or some legitimate source of income. He won’t be able to stay clean and out of trouble in the SoCal moto lifestyle

Its also insane to think that if Nico would have just spent his $1mm net worth in 2009 or whatever on a few stocks or other investment he would be one of the richest mx racers of all time by now. Instead he bought a Escalade with rims, a bmw. And some other random car I can’t remember. The rest of his money went to his house in CA which was his only legitimate investment. He’s got to be kicking himself now for selling that house for drug money or whatever

I’m with you.

But I can’t even imagine having an income like that, and access to girls and parties like that at that age when he went pro.

Easy to say how easy is it all is, but I was an idiot at that age myself, money would have likely compounded it.

Not to defend Izzi, but it takes two to tango.

She's not innocent in that scenario.
Ohh definitely! Not saying she didn’t have a huge part in it.

Wow...I wish the best for the guy and glad he found someone better. Nico is still the same person and always will be, what a woman would see in this loser is beyond me.

Or any self-reflection really. All I heard was a bunch of "it was crazy" and "ya knows" from the guy. Also less than a month after prison we are giving him interviews asking about a return? How about we get Nico to return to reality for a bit.

Hope for the best for Izzi....buuuuuut.....I'm struggling to be totally convinced that he's actually clean. I truly hope I'm wrong, but he has quite a few of the tells that people using normally exhibit. I'm all about second chances for folks that have been down the addiction route, and I hope he's grabbing them with all of his might....

for me.. kinda hard to tell.... could be he wrecked himself so badly before, that he kept some of the tics.... like Sam Tripoli (comedian).... Sam has been off the hard stuff for a long time.. but to this day looks like he is tweaking...

i.e. the choke.
He appeared chill as could be in that video to me. You think he choked, and forgot to say sorry b/c of that? I hope it works out for him. If he's been clean two years, I hope he can stay that way. Personally, I'd steer clear from him. His story isn't over, we'll see how he writes the next chapter.

I enjoyed the interview but you guys bring up good points on the depth of his remorse. Serious question, if motocross crashes have led to pills that led to harder drugs that destroyed your life and others multiple times, is it smart to immediately jump on a bike where the risk of another injury and another need for pain pills is off the charts?
Or is it just “deal with that when it happens”?

As long as he understands he will be a recovering addict his whole life he might have a chance. Life is all about today as tomorrow is not guaranteed. Hope it works out for him and his family for the future.

This is a good question, on one hand we all know dirtbikes can be therapy. I at least know they are for me, it is the only way I can shut my brain down and just be present in the moment. On the other hand it is dangerous, and if you are in recovery you should avoid any instance where you will be in the presence of substances. At his skill level being hurt is inevitable, how he handles it is his choice.

That crossed my mind as well. His brain will always crave something, the bike can likely fill that need for him. Hopefully he doesn't get hurt, or can sustain the aftermath if/when he does. It's also likely his talent allowing him to make some money with bikes. Beats taco bell, safeway, or pouring concrete. Who knows, just my thoughts.

It's all he knows how to do. I doubt that he would never make it in a "real job".

Or he could have bought bit coin like all the kids of that age group right now and he'd have enough left for just a big Mac and no fries.

This might be the first full mx interview I’ve even watched- He seems to accept responsibility for everything he has done…I hope he stays sober, but think the chances are slim. It does seem one injury and he will be back on pills…

I get he has hurt people in his life, who hasn’t to some degree.

Hopefully he can prove the sport is better with him in it.

Ah, you mean people who try to help them, because they care.

That's horrible.

People don't magically get straight because you turn your back on them. That generally makes things even worse.

Yes. I fully understand that your world view has punishment righting all wrongs, and that if Izzy only had it bad enough, he'd find a path to righteousness. Guess what? That path wasn't in his upbringing. It's not in his quiver.

Broke a vertebrae years ago. They gave me a Costco sized container of Hydrocodone when I went home. I took one the first night to sleep. Realized they were a bad idea.

A couple months later a friend had a crash and asked if he could have them, so I gave them to him. A few days later he called and asked if I had any more. It was probably a months supply. Crazy.

You missed the boat on this one Roczoff, he means he has a bunch of yes men and women around him who perpetuate the toxic mindset that Izzy is the shit. That’s how he got here in the first place.

Perhaps you can recommend a gnarly track in Florida where he can hang with friends and come off the couch and qualify top 15...[see your comments in the JLaw thread.] Man, you sure are inconsistent.

Izzi gonna Izzi. JLaw gonna Jlaw. Tell me again how they are different...
