Holy hell Patrick , you scored big time on that one!! The last time I rode a 500 was on a 2001 CR500 at Washougal. I still remember it to this day about how much fun I had on that thing. A buddy of mine swapped bikes with me ( my 99' Kx 250 ) and we both ran both bikes in separate classes. Such a blast on that beast!

Noice!!

Order all new plastics, side covers etc. take as much stock stuff off as you can get and replace with aftermarket. Even the pipe and all. Store it away safely. Then ride the piss out of it for the next five to ten years. One day slap it all back on fresh up the engine and double your money lol

Love the CR500s! I have a very low hour 2001 CR500 (estimate 6 hours or less) that I don't ride, and also a nice "lower-hour" 1997. Maybe 3-4 1987 CR500s (one is completely disassembled that I was rebuilding when I had a bad wrist injury 3-4 years ago) When you find a nice one that's not all beat, you have to jump on it!

All it is missing is the crate. I agree with whoever told you you will lose a lot of money if you ride it. Either keep it to display or sell to a collector and take the money and buy a more seasoned one to ride.

Agreed. It would almost be sacrilege to ride that. Display or sell it and buy a used one to ride. What a score!
Agreed

So cool. I need to hit yard sales I guess 🤔

I don’t think I would ride it..

I would rather spend 6-7k on another one, ride that instead and keep that one mint. But I also have a bike in my living room that I built to ride, and have only put about 30 minutes on it..

That thing is the holy grail. I could never get it dirty. It would be in my living room on display! And for $5k?! You can’t buy a beat up ‘90 CR500 for under $9k here.

An Aussie will be by shortly to offer you an obscene amount of dough for that.

They love those things down there.

Please, whatever you do, don't sell it to Captain Sideburns in Connecticut.

You hit the lottery. Is it just the picture or is that a little crack where the cylinder bolt goes into the case?

Hey Jeff! It's been a while. I was looking for ya at PIR the other night. These 500's are awesome!! I raced my buddies at PIR last Thursday. It's set up with '08 CRF450 forks and a Magura hydro clutch. It's fun and stable and you don't have to worry about a good gate jump LOL

Why can't I be the asshole who finds this unicorn . . . ha!

Head clown and distributor of used car quality info about vintage bikes at Kaplan America.

If you need a "restored" vintage bike of dubious quality, he's your guy!

He reminds me of Danny Thompson from Airplane Repo.
