I spent quite a bit of time at Washougal today watching Max Vohland. He has a lot of sexton and Jett’s style and technique. In 2 years he’s going to be a force too.

Maybe you don't follow amateurs? Sexton was a top amateur for most of his youth, riding for Rock River Yamaha for a long time and Honda at the end, winning Horizon award. Forkner had a slight edge on him but he's also a year older, which can make a big difference when they're young. Austin turned pro a year sooner so was definitely ahead when Chase followed, but it was also no secret that that Honda 250 was underpowered and he struggled on it. I think Chase is fundamentally a better rider, and now that all the pieces are coming together we're seeing the results.
Correct sir I do not really pay attention to amateurs, that is good context to add though. I was not aware of his status before I watched him the season he won his first 250sx title. Appreciate the info.

Sexton's been building confidence and speed in last 3 years to run up front. The experience he is gaining running with Tomac will only add to his confidence

Epic ride under pressure. Sure makes a 35 minutes go by fast for spectating.

I didn't think much of him until I watched him in his last 250f season, something clicked during that time.

He never won a single 250 outdoor race. I would agree where did this come from? Insane
What rider who didn't win a 250 national has ever beaten Tomac when he is on it? Tomac was flying...Chase earned it but still...wow.

I don’t recall any rider - ever - in the premiere class who never won anything outdoors suddenly start rise and lead the way Chase has. If he wins this championship I hope he takes it without a mechanical or crash on Eli’s part; that would be exciting.

I feel like going to factory Honda and being under Roczen’s wing definitely played a role in his quick development. He took what he learned and went beyond. Awesome to see a rider reach his potential in this way.

We'll see. Way too early to tell but Chase has a raw speed that I don't see in Jett
Jett reminds me of Webb. Webb was an absolute force in the 250's. Fast forward to the 450's, Webb isn't the fastest guy in SX and we know he's struggled with speed outdoors. This coming from a HUGE Webb fan.

Im just happy someone is making Eli work for it. Worried with Ferrandis being out, Tomac was just gonna walk away with the title. Watching those two battle today in person was a day to remember. Much better than last year imo. Sexton is killing it. He carries these kinds of rides into SX next year, hes gonna be hard to beat.

yeah I remember watching the amateur all-stars at the Monster Cup races and I think Forkner won like 2-3 years in a row, while Sexton was always lower on the podium below him. And that continued in pro 250s for a while. Now Forkner can't stay healthy and Sexton is challenging for the top step of the 450s. Crazy how things can change

Sexton is a modern version of Everts way better than Everts. Pretty sure at 98% he goes 1-1 at Dilla.Sexton is a tough guy, he can crash hard but stay free injurie and this is a very important point in MX/SX. He has an amazing skill and he is never afraid to send it (Amazing how far he landed after the hill or on the jump before the sand section). He is always very cool with people and his story family was close to bring me a tear to be honest. I think for his career, that battle with Tomac is very good for him. Tomac is pushing him next level.I watch that like an Handover of power. The new king is coming very fast and 2023 could be the year of the 23. Tomac era is coming to an end. No way Honda HRC doesn't win the 450 SX title in the next 3 years. That line up Sexton-Lawrence will be very tought to beat in the next few years. I would be a little less sad when Tomac retires because Sexton will be there. Big fan.

Haha pretty much, Sexton and Tomac are on another level, all riders have a sprint speed but these have done that for 70 mins the last 2 weeks. Amazing athletes.

Has everything finally just clicked for him now? Is he putting in more work than the other guys to put him on this level above all his competitors? Has he always "had it"?

Very impressive riding Sexton, the only one who can hang with Eli and now beat him.

When everyone said he didn't deserve his 450 ride and he lucked into his 250sx title.

Fed the fire, built a monster. Since his first year on 450s he's shown nothing but speed and as he grows older he shown maturity

But more bikes than any state . The mega cross series is very competitive, ferry drove up for a race. Chase lives near a few good tracks in iL. I thought he would’ve won last yr. He won the last race tho.

Interesting comparison. I'm a huge Jett fan by the way. One moto at Unadilla in '19 and I was sold. The thing with Jett is he doesn't flash insane speed like Chase does but I think he has it. He's just so smart and rides within himself, we don't see it. After he blew up his bike at Red Bud 2nd moto it looked like he wanted to prove a point and yarded everyone by 20sec.

Chase has been riding the e xtremely hard hitting and potent double boost port 04 cr125 in a secret location. Only 2 men in earth’s existence hv been able to smooth the beast. It makes riding a 450 cake.

Chase has been one to three seconds off Tomac’s pace over a 35 minute period time on multiple occasions. In my book that IS beast mode speed. I don’t know why some of you are so surprised. Chase reeled in a couple seconds on Tomac this weekend compared to the other weekends. It’s not like he pulled something out of his ass that he hasn’t been doing all year long.

This. We've known he was crazy fast for a couple years now, he's just honing it in. AC and Roczen both said leading up to the 2020 outdoors that Sexton consistently blew their doors off during the week.

Big mental breakthrough for chase yesterday. It’s one thing to believe you can hold off ET3 but to actually do it is a huge step. These 2 are going to be extremely entertaining to watch for rest of the season.

Nearly every Moto pod had him as one of if not the favourite for winning SX . Plus as one of the favourite s for outdoor s . Every pro rider has been raving about how much talent he has the last 3 years . So where have you been ??? . Its not that much of a surprise . Heck Matthes thought he would go on a MC run in SX . Sexton hype has been high for a while. I not surprised at all on how good he is riding
Me either, it's just a matter of putting it all together and keeping it together.

Now I wonder if the hardpack conditions at Washougal hard pack conditions played into Sextons favor.

We are seeing some epic racing.

Can Ferrandis play spoiler at Unadilla?

He was learning his craft on a 250... when you consider he 'only won on a 250 cos Forkner got hurt' , look at him now. He will be the top US rider of his generation, he didnt tug about on a 250 looking for a career, he stepped up and got on with it.

Great to watch him put the squeeze on Tomac, if he hadnt been right on Tomac when he fell, that would have been a 1-1 and the series almost tied.

He is the real deal who just needed to get to a 450 for his style to work.

He will stop Hunter Lawrence getting a 450 ride on a red bike IMO.
