Motocross Dreams

Edited Date/Time 7/14/2022 6:12pm
Full disclosure... aside from a handful of enduro rides, due to financial and other circumstances, I haven't raced or ridden seriously in almost fifteen years.

In the last few years, I've developed a ludicrous phenomenon and I'm wondering if other ex-racers/ riders have it as well.

Literally every night, I dream that I'm back on my dirtbike. I'll go to my dad's old garage, and there she'll be waiting for me. My dream self usually remembers that I never actually sold it. Just the other night I dreamt I took it to the Unadilla amateur track and was faster than I ever was. Then, like an ex-smoker dreaming about smoking, I wake up longing.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who has this.

Can't say I do, rarely remember dreams anyway, but if it's literally every night you need to do something about it man.

Even if it's just a cheap old beater, get hold of a bike and have some fun. Don't need to compete, don't need to please anyone else, just enjoy yourself.

My dreams are always similar.
A big rush to get to the line, and then I realise I am missing gloves, or helmet or need fuel and I miss the race.

My only MX dreams are like this. I realize I don't have my gear on, then it takes forever to get my boots on, then I have to push my bike to the start line, and when the gate drops I'm left in the dust. My bike is so slow, I case every double jump out there, even the "grandma with a tricycle" doubles. I never see the checkered flag, but I have to leave the track anyway... taking too long, get out of the way.

That’s one of my two dreams….

The other is always the falling dream - I’ll be riding, then all the sudden I hit the lip of a jump that sends me 200 feet into the air, I scream as I begin the decent and then right at impact I pop up in my bed. I never get use to it, wake up with my heart at 160BPM every single time

When I dream about moto I'm WFO through the nastiest corners and thinking "damn, I finally figured it out"

I remember one time dreaming about racing Anderson on 65s at lorettas.

Yeah, I've been riding dirt bikes since I was 8 years old. So basically all my life I've been having dreams where I go off massive jumps like that, or ride off a cliff. Though for me, they don't usually wake me up. In my dream I have a bit of euphoria like I'm floating in the air and accepting my doom, and then the dreams just kind of end.

I wonder if non-moto people ever have similar dreams. Maybe driving cars off of cliffs or crashing airplanes or something?

I get those dreams. I'll overjump a jump badly or go over a burm.

I get one of those dreams at least every other week. I also rock climb, and every once in a while I'll have a falling dream.

I have a recurring dream that I want to ride but can't. Like I'll be trying to get my gear on and I can't find anything, and my bike disappears. Or I dream I'm on a bike but the throttle won't go. I suppose it symbolizes all my failed moto goals.

Not necessarily dreams, but when I can’t get to sleep, I think about two specific times, one racing and one practice day on my dirt bike. Either one gets me to sleep pretty quick. 👍

It’s time to go riding OP

I once had a dream that I was riding a kx250f and was absolutely ripping my local track. I had this dream about three times within a month.

About 6months later I went and bought that kx250f and got a lot faster over the next two years.

You are not the only one.

I dream often of my old 2-strokes and going "home" to ride them. I usually wake up frustrated because I can never seem to actually ride them. Same as Moto Nomad wrote above. I can't find a piece of gear or the bike disappears. Isn't that strange?

I ride off road all the time...but on an ADV bike. I have not ridden MX in nearly 30 years.

2-strokes are dear to my heart.....but MX days are gone for me.

It's a sign it's time for you to get back on the bike. Just go ride practice days for a year. I'd recommend a 250f for ease of getting back at it. You don't have to be in good shape to have fun on one. Unless of course you rode 2 strokes a lot. Then get a 125 or 250 but they will kick your ass if you're out of shape, especially the 250 2 stroke.

When I can’t sleep I just do laps in my head at a buddies track I ride all the time, I’ve spun 100s of laps there so it’s pretty easy for me to imagine it. It’s oddly strange how the thought of fast paced MX riding and imagining the sound a wringed out 125 make me sleepy.

I’m sure I’ve had moto dreams, but I never really seem to remember any of my dreams. I can only think of 2 that I actually remember from a while ago, but other than that I reflect on them when I wake up and somehow forget about them five minutes later. Need to keep a notepad bedside, what you dream can tell you a lot about where your head is at.

I don't ride anymore, but I still have dreams about that often, since I miss it. There's always a problem. Bike doesn't go fast, or move at all. Or the soil is like quicksand etc. One time I had an RM and I was accelerating towards a jump. Suddenly it had changed to a Yamaha DT 125 and after that it changed to a bicycle. By the time I got to that jump, I was just running. Laughing

This one! All the time. So weird. I’d be rushing to the track and not be able to get to the line in time for whatever reason.

Once in a blue moon I’d be on a bike and be absolutely cruising, like its as easy as a video game

I'm blessed to repeatedly dream I'm riding Budds on Ricky's 04CRF 450. But, in my dream, it's sag is properly set and bars are not on the gas tank. Trust me, this Honda is legit, WhiteBros exhaust sounds trick and I've never bottomed out the suspenders.

some 40 years ago, there used to be a large step up jump at my local bmx track.. you had to nail the previous bowl turn perfectly to have the speed to clear it. still in my dreams, I've somehow figured out how to obtain so much speed that I send it twenty feet into the flat, waking up just before.. I'll be on random bikes - pit bike, beach cruiser, etc.

another common theme in my dreams - I can wheelie everywhere, like Doug Domokos wheelie king style.

Thank you sir. Nothing like the feeling of dirt and mechanical ponies between the legs.

I had a dream, more of a nightmare, that it was next to impossible to watch the outdoors this year….then I realized I was awake!
