It was never the bike.
Maybe the championship’hangover’ is real?

Anderson done nothing after winning SX 2018.
Webb done nothing after winning SX 2019.
Tomac done nothing after winning SX 2020.
Webb done nothing after winning SX 2021.

There’s a trend.. let’s see if it continues:
Does Tomac win outdoors 2022?
Is Webb rejuvenated for SX 2023?
Yeah, McGrath had a hangovers too.
Thinking too much. Just ride the scooter and leave the thinking to the others.

So gritty

I love that the instant the tough guy façade starts to dissolve, Webb fans have to result to insults, conspiracy theories, and “hEs sTiLl a cHaMpIoN” to distract from the fact that Webb is and has always been a punk. He attracts a very specific type of person

Yamaha have just proven that all you need to do is hire the right rider.

Eli would’ve won this year whether he was riding a YZF, CRF, RMZ, SXF or FC. He may have even done it on a KXF, although he did seem pretty burned out with that bike/team.

All Honda need to do is pay up for the right rider.
Only if Star Racing were fielding those bikes and Eli had his favorite suspension guy like he does now Wink
How many championships did Eli win WITHOUT his favourite suspension guy? And once you've answered that, how many championships did Eli win WITH his favourite suspension...

And once you've answered that, how many championships did Eli win WITH his favourite suspension guy first time around? (Honda days)

Funny, people say the reason for no wins for Honda is because of the bike...so why could it not be the bike for KTM?
The orange koolaide is a hell of a thing. Those same guys saying it’s not the bike are the same guys trying to convince everyone else that they’d all be better if they started riding KTM’s too.

The other color riders/owners aren’t trying to justify their purchases. Tongue

Newsflash: Marv won an event this year on the same exact bike from the same exact team. Excuses are like assholes, everybody's got'em.

Seems I need to break it down for you Bro:

Webb gets 2nd at A1, the new bikes great!
Results go south from there, the riders say they’re having setup issues. Yet Malcom is still getting great results.
The media jump on that and the team is forced to admit they have setup issues.
The announcers pile on, because that’s what they do.
The team makes improvements, because that’s what they do. Malcom’s still going good, Marv’s improving.
Webb has a better round or two and says they found some new things that make the bike much better.
At some rounds Marv says he doesn’t even need to touch the bike setup anymore.
Malcom’s best ever season continues. Marv goes on a podium streak and wins a race.
Webb……..it’s still the bike?

The new bike may have not been great early in the season, but the time for that excuse is long past.

You know what i think is funny? when Kenny pulled out of SX with his health issues and Webb took a cheap shot at with the "I'm paid to race" thing. Now he's the one skipping outdoors, I thought you was paid to race buddy? lol

Likely an unpopular opinion but I still firmly believe that the hate for Webb mainly stems from his rivalry with Kenny. Vital doesn’t like when their darling gets beat the way Webb has beat him over the years.

Hey man, I get it. That wasn’t a dig at you. It just reminded me of a few members who seem to marry their personal identity to a certain brand. The idea that this brand might have been underprepared with the new platform this year is just

And I think it’s kind of funny. That’s all.

They didn’t have to start the year on the ‘22.5’. There’s no way they’d bring a bike they DONT have to ride until it’s ready.

Backed up by almost securing 2nd & 3rd positions at the first race until Marv took him & Malcolm out. And even then Webb swept in to get 2nd.

Couldn’t be much more obvious that the new bike was great.

New KTM platform and Musquin and Stewart have done well with the bike. A KTM (Musquin) win and Stewart has done better than ever in supercross season. Now we have last years champion sitting out the Nationals for unknown (whatever) reasons and the last supercross champion has no wins with one race left. Is it the bike or the rider (attitude) ?

Let's hear it from the last years champions fans?
Am I missing something? Since when is DF14 sitting out the Nationals?

He mentioned "last years champion sitting out the nationals", then mentioned "AND the last supercross champion has no wins". Sounds like he's talking about Webb right away, then mentions Webb a second time. Just terrible writing.

Here: The 2020 Supercross champion did well this year and Tomac had an amazing season this year.

See how dumb that sounds?

Webb doesn't need to make excuses his fans do it for him. This is just another bbp scenario but it's now bop.

It's the same as Roczen. Who knows what the reason is, but these guys hammer themselves at the highest level daily and the physical and mental stress is massive I am sure. Maybe he just needs some time off, maybe rest, maybe he did get lazy last year (we all do), maybe he has an injury......who cares. I criticized Roczen for not sharing the real reasons for all of his mystery issues, but have since changed my perspective to give these guys a break. Even if he did share all the details, people would still be negative or say he is lying etc.

So as an old curmudgeon (mid 70's), the old ratio was the 85/15 rider/bike contribution. Was curious what today's metric is.

They've obviously made progress with the chassis. When Mookie isn't clearly the best in the whoops, you know that more work needs to be done, though.

Webb: The grungiest riders tend to have a hard time with longevity. Jlaw, Bradshaw, One-punch. Webb can't be himself as the top guy on the top team, and it's hard living a lie.

And KTM hate has a lot to do with them being more expensive. Plus, this crowd likes to tear down the top dog, especially when they've been on top a while. People turned on Craig, for chrissakes...

a team and pro rider rarely say “it’s perfect”.
Unless they’re dominating everything, they’ll always say ‘we can be better’ (using other words)
Why would they let their opponents know they’ve ‘topped out’??

They’re always striving for more.
Always looking to be better.
2nd is not good enough.

As fans, all we need to see is riders either meeting or exceeding their expectations to determine if it works or not.
The anomaly this year of course is Webb.

If Webb thinks he can blame the bike whilst we’ve seen what Malcolm has done on it, he’s thinking we are stupid.
