Got Dang It, this isn't the kind of thread you want to see on your first Vital check in of the day.

Hoping like hell... Unsure

If anyone who knows him and has his address, I would call local law enforcement to conduct a welfare check. It’s very common and can easily be articulated due to his message and stuff he deals with personally. Hope everything is ok with Scottie.

Can't chronic pain be managed? We need to dig deep and help Scottie. If it costs money then we chip in and make it happen.

ML, please investigate and find out what he needs.

OC, hang in there brotha...

I can understand his thinking. about 20 years ago now I crashed and crushed my left foot. I had surgery to fix it , it was ok , but still bothered me. So I had another surgery , and for about 3 or 4 months it was pretty good. Then I was at a race on the 4th of July and it started to hurt again. I toughed it out for a few years thinking it was just what it was. then it started to get very bad. I went to see Dr.s and many thought I just wanted pain pills and wrote me off. After all the last surgeon to operate on my foot was considered one of the best . I was in major pain and depressed. Had I not had parents who would not give up on finding a way to fix my pain (and also had I not been trapped in a burning building and saw my Mother collapse as I left the window that they were trying to pull me from , to try and walk out through the fire , but luckily returned to the window and was pulled out safely , seeing her face like that was as close to being at my own funeral, it made me realize I had to do whatever I needed to do to keep going Seeing that helped me keep going long enough to find the Dr. that lead the team that fixed my foot.) I may have gone down the same road. By the time I found a Dr. that said he could, and would fix my issue 10 years had passed since I had originally crushed my foot. I was on pain meds , and I dreaded the first step of the day. While in bed the pain was not bad. Some days it was bad enough I needed crutches, it was always so swollen that my shoe was stretched out. I was getting to the point that I wanted to force an operation and was close to cutting my foot open to get one started. I was very sick at the time and many nights I felt like I would not wake up when I went to sleep. I would stay up late into the night, hating how foggy the pain meds made me feel. Vowing to just stop and deal with it. But then the next morning I would always give in after trying to get going. I had my own business ( which I still have today) and it suffered while I was dealing with everything. The Dr. I was able to find after seeing 2 dr.s each week for around 6 months. After a law changed that let me get coverage for my pre existing condition .Seeing every orthopedic Dr. in the Ma. area that would take my Insurance. When I finally found a dr. willing to try and fix my issue , that on an X-ray looked like it should not be causing the level of pain I had. I had developed pneumonia, and I was so sick I was worried they would not operate. The blood work showed a sign of infection, so lucky for me that one Dr. took the chance that I was telling the truth about wanting to get fixed. And he ran that simple test that any other Dr. could have , but did not run. And when they opened up my foot they discovered a MRSA infection. Lucky for me , the same lack of blood flow that caused my foot not to heal , also saved my leg. It took another 2 years of going in and scraping out bone and infected stuff , being on a PICC line 2 times , and some bone grafts . Now 11 years after the last PICC line ( almost 22 years after the injury) I am able to do most things pain free and am not on any pain meds. And am not depressed anymore . I never thought that I would be able to be pain free after so many Dr.'s had said there was nothing that could be done and just gave me drugs. The drugs never totally got rid of the pain, just made it a little more bearable . I was at the point that I had decided I would tough it out until my parents passed , and then I would join them. I did not tell anybody my plan. And thanks to them, some friends ,family and a few amazing Dr.s that is no longer my plan and I am lucky to still be doing what I love for a living. My foot is fused and I have minimal movement, but I'm able to do most things I want to do. I have not rode since 2003, I broke my foot in November of 2000. Now I know that its just a foot, but it also caused me to walk funny which also helped me herniate 2 disks in my back and have extreme pain throughout most of my body. It may only have been my foot , but it impacted my life very dramatically. If I had not been able to get it fixed I would be counting down the days. I can understand the place OC Scottie must be in mentally. I do hope that he is able to find a fix for his pain that gets him to a better place , and keeps him around. It only takes 1 Dr. trying something different to totally change everything! I went through 11 years of pain , some were not bad , others were horrible. It was not like a normal injury where you have a few bad days , and couple weeks of pain and then it gets better. 1 year , 2 , 3 years, imagine going through that much time and being in the worst pain of your life for even just 50% of the time. And keep being told there is nothing more that can be done. Thankfully I found the people I needed to find to help with my injury. I hope that there is somebody out there reading this thread that can Help Scottie. Sorry if this is hard to read and written badly , it brought up a flood of bad memories. Medical tech is advancing more and more everyday. You never know what tomorrow may bring.

He’s on a different level. They tell him surgery will help, but they haven’t.

Chronic pain can be managed, but what's the solution? Opioids that leave you constipated and feeling soulless? Weed? I don't think pt and other methods are going to help, IIRC some of his pain is nerve related.

Hope you're ok Scottie, and thanks for checking ML.

Hopefully he can get some help for what he is dealing with, but curious for the folks who may not know who he is (including me), who is OCScottie? Is he a fellow moto fan/forum member, or a former pro racer?? Did he have a serious moto related injury? Seems like a lot of folks on this board know him or are familiar with him. Sorry for all the questions. Regards to Scottie and his family...

Thanks ML, can you please take down this thread?

Now that we know contact has been made. I think it may be hard for him to see this unless people think the support will be encouraging for him but being around this road I would find it embarrassing. Even though its full of people who care about him.

In all honesty, I think he’d appreciate the support, but it’s your thread, you can delete it yourself if you want.
