I wear a chest protector, so roost only really bothers me when I take a stray rock to the bicep or something.

Once I saw a rock coming like it was in slow-motion. It bounced right off my boot, square in the middle of my shin. I felt that thing through the boots and the knee/shin protection. Wow. Blink

Maybe it’s the area I ride in or that I don’t particularly follow and try to change lines as much as possible but it’s never really bothered me even when I’m behind 450s. Just hurst about the same as being shot with an air soft gun. Can sting if you focus on it but you can tune it out.

All roost is relative. Roost in the A class is much more intense than roost in the C class.

It sucks.. the worst is the pebbles to the nose for me

That’s one thing. there is always one errant pebble or rock that will nail you in the nose lol
My nose is a magnet for them. I can take the rocks to the arm and not flinch (still sucks really bad) but the BBs to the nose make my eyes water lol

Back when I was trying to be somebody in the sport, I used it as motivation to get around whoever was in front of me…..

Now that I’m a never was, find me at your local track with a full chest protector and hand guards….roost hurts a lot more Monday mornings than it use to!

I rode a few nationals back in the day, made a brilliant decision (twice) to attempt the national at Washougal on a 500. Used to wear an HRP flak jak, nothing can ever prepare you for turning the corner at the bottom of the hill on a 500. Nothing.. ever..

I ducked just before the roller and was glancing right and was next to Lechien doing the exact same thing in a qualifier. It left marks and bruises for days. took one off the nose, a few off the boys, etc.. you can't get away from it and there is nowhere to hide. Trial by fire I guess...

Loamy roost I can deal with, it’s the occasional rock shots to the Dick ‘ fingers and nipples that have me crying and once in a great while the larger rocks to the chest that make stop. Dirt don’t hurt’ it’s the rocks I’m concerned with.

Before handguards? A lot. It’s beyond me how I’ve never fractured a finger.

After? Meh, it’s whatever.

I’m never fast enough to be in front of people so I consider myself an expert on the subject 😂
I fractured a couple fingers from roost. 450 roost sucks!
I don't have handguards, and follow the "Don't follow anyone" strategy, but handguards are in my future.

At the wick not at all, at a track with dirt…a bit but then again it’s expected. When I’m in the pits doing my motos and someone is holding me up and I’m eating dirt I get fired up.

As long as it’s not in the face or my hands it doesn’t bother me. It doesn’t feel good but it’s manageable otherwise.

Bowers roosted me at the late Milestone and a huge rock hit me in the nuts. Cant say it didn't bother me.

I've never have dealt with roost other than passing lappers, I always holeshot and go wire to wire. Hahahahaha nah, that shit hurts so wear full protection guys, even ugly handguards depending where you're at.

Got hit on the end of my little buddy by a Wirehead Jones CR500 roost once. "There's two kinds of pain in this world. The kind that hurts. And the kind that alters."

The roost definitely hurts but it’s also a good way to keep a slightly faster rider behind you. Me and my riding buddies use to try to roost each other as we practiced. I got really good at knowing where the other guy was and which way to turn to make sure he got a face full of roost. One night at our local track a guy showed up who had support from Suzuki and I knew he was probably a little faster than me. I got the start then I heard him creeping up on me. Once he caught me I proceeded to roost him every chance I got. I was able to hold him off and get the win. I went and talked to him after the race and he said of all the times he had raced that he had never eaten so much roost.

Remember Wardy used to ride the bad boy 500 without hand guards OR chest protector. Fuck that!!!!
Don’t forget he did the open face with a Jofa mouth guard too!

I love roost! It makes my tiny biceps look bigger instead of hitting the gym...

I got a rock shot into my chest at mach 10 once while riding. Literally knocked the wind out of me and was sore for a month. I go euro style now with a full over the jersey chest protector.
I am old enough to remember when wearing a Chest protector under the jersey was Euro style. 😂
