I'm running on my 21 13/46 which is like equal to putting a 14t on it. You need to gear it taller in order to use 2nd 3rd 4th for longer periods.

I've seen you around at washougal man I'm #90 with Yellow backgrounds black numbers. Otmx colors. You can try it out if you doubt me. Makes it whole lot better. Normally I'm on my 21 250sx hopefully mt view next weekend
Right on! I'll keep an eye out for you and am thinking of hitting up Mtn View next weekend as well. I haven't ridden since October but been slaying consistently on the MTB over winter. Hopefully cobwebs won't be too bad. HA!

So you're diggin the 13/46?

I use stock 13,48. I was thinking of going to 49 back, only because I've got two other bikes running that and I could setup my spare wheel the same for all bikes.

Smoking Joe's might work better to widen the gears, mine will already pull 3rd in corners so maybe with the 49 I could run 4th and 5th on the straights more often, but maybe it would mean a lot more shifting
I hated it with 13/48 I was in 4th 5th 6th way too early I might have liked 13/48 9 if I were riding tight arenacross tracks or trails all the time. What's the point of having to shift like 5 feet outta the corner from 2nd to 3rd then equally the same from 3rd to 4th.
Bike has the power to pull the lower gearing fine why not make it go faster?

Very interesting feedback, when I was dialing in the Stic metering block, it makes mega top end and revs out really good... I hit a jump 3rd pinned and it screamed so good the bike looped out, launched into the next zip code and left me on my ass 😂😂😂

I just picked up our new 22 MC125 yesterday from Bills Motorcycles in Salem, Or. Awesome shop btw No mark ups whatsoever MSRP period! They put a new CDI box in from KTM. The fix is called something along the lines of "the crank update". But it's just a CDI box being changed. We are taking it to NorCal in the morning to break it in and see how it runs(I'll probably bring the YZ just incase). It sounds like 32:1 is the mixture. I've been running 40:1 Super M 92 non eth in our YZ's and haven't had any problems. It looks like I'm going to go 32:1 after reading this thread. on this one. Do you guys have any recommendations on fork pressure for a 120lb junior rider on this?
The kid is stoked!!!!
Pat, prepare a nice cup of tea and read through the long jetting thread in the tech forum on here. The difference between the stock jetting and the jetting from that thread is night and day. Don't bother playing around with pilots and mains. Go all in, get the slide, needle jet, etc and do it right. You'll be glad you did.

This is what I copied essentially by gearing it down it. It changes the gearing from the stock 3.6 to a 3.5 which the 125 is at stock. Why people like the 125 more.

I looked at gearing ratio chart and it listed 13/46 at a 3.54 ratio. It now rides like the 125 but instead of 13/50 gearing like the 125 has stock I'm running 13/46. So my top speed is greater now. Nearly got me the holeshot at dream race this year came around in 4th. I tried the 14t and I didn't like the clutch slave clearance and you can't run the guard.

This is from the '21 test

I have a 22 125xc that didn't experience any failures. I spoke with ktm about the recall and they told me I was fine to continue riding until I had it performed. Had the work done last week and can't tell any difference riding the bike at all.

Did they tell you how many RPMs you were losing or any details on the work performed?

Thank you! It seems to be running pretty good, we rode the Marysville tracks and Hangtown this past week/weekend. I jumped on t for a couple laps and it definitely felt rich off the bottom for me. My son didn't seem to care but I'd like to get it perfect.

I have been sending various picture to the KTM dealer, who is forwarding them KTM. I haven't heard anything back from KTM on what they will do with my crank failure at ~12 hours.

You may need to take the bike into the dealer to make any progress, even if you performed the work previously. It will also need to go to a dealer for the CDI recall/replacement. I just dropped my bike off to the dealer today along with all of the parts that I had replaced as the KTM support rep requested it be done that way. Still no ETA on when I will get the bike back with the new CDI.
I am just hopeful that I can get all of the parts that I had to buy after my failure (@14.4 hours) replaced with new ones if not reimbursed. I am good with having a full spare kit available for the future.

It took my dealer like 3 days to get my new cdi in. I spoke with ktm again about what the flash actually did because the dealer didn't know any specifics and they said Map changes as well as setting the rev limit to about 15k. Previously some of them were letting the bikes rev upwards of 16k.

I've been getting a lot of different information KTM customers service couldn't tell me what the actual rev limit was before or after but they said they are knocking about 200 RPM off

Customer of mine has two 2022 TC125’s.

The first one he bought, after 12 hours the piston had detonation but the head was fine. Now that I have seen this thread I’ll inform him on the cdi recall. This bike only has 17 hours on it as of now.

The second one, the crank locked up at .5 hours, two laps in on his first ride. I told him to take it back to the dealership. He did, they ended up fixing it all for free. Took about a week. He now hours 2.3 hours on the bike with no other issues.

KTM customer service also told me there was no recall on any of the cranks but yet all the dealerships sent their cranks back and have none in stock and an ETA of June

2022 125sx with 45 hours on stock crank. Piston changed every 20 hours. VP T2 fuel. No issues so far. Love this bike.

I mean realistically it stops making any kind of good power before max rev anyway so it's not like we're losing performance with the flash. Like I said I can't tell the difference riding the bike now vs before having it done.

Today KTM Nordic sent out info about recall for all bikes. They will get ECU update that seems to lower rev limiter.
Seems they wont fix real issue but will reduce failures.

Yes it doesn't seem like they're being completely honest about the problem

Lol they're lowering the limit because it was wrong... bike isn't supposed to rev to 16k.

Is it possible to just buy a oem 2021 cdi box from Motorsport and put it on instead of waiting two months to get my bike back from dealer? Rather not have to deal with the whole recall process as my closest dealer is two hours away. I don’t mind spending the extra $200 to have it run properly. I have also ridden the bike for 20 hours with zero issues. I will be replacing the piston soon so I will check the crank when I do that.

The 2 guys I know who had it done had the CDI box at the dealer within a week and the dealer installed it in about 10 minutes while they waited.

YMMV

My dealer just notified me, he only needs the vin. To order the new cdi, not complete bike…

So your dealer is outright ordering a new CDI? Mine just told me they have to take my CDI off, ship it out to get reprogrammed, and then I have to bring the bike back in to install it. And they could not give me a timeline for how long it would all take. Doesn't sound like any of the recalls they've done so far have come back yet. Bummed, back riding after 8 years and immediately have to deal with this

That seems odd... I would call a different dealer.

There are two options for repair. One is send the CDI back and when an updated CDI is available they'll send it but it won't be the same CDI. The other option is to request a new CDI be sent to the dealer and when one is available they'll send it and then you can go in and get the replacement CDI installed.

GG121, have you dealer re-read the Recall paperwork and look for Option 2.

Yes, I just asked my dealer if he wanted the original cdi & he said “no” just bring bike in when he gets the new cdi. This is no big deal for me as My main bike is a 350… I can see where this would sting if you only had 1 bike… this 125 was just an experiment for me to see if, at 54 years old and 190lbs I could actually ride a 125 again!

Yeah thats ridiculous call ktm customer service and tell them what your dealer is trying to do cause that's not correct. They can ship a new cdi you shouldn't have to be unable to ride your bike for any amount of time.

Heard back from KTM on Thursday. They are going to warranty the crank failure I had on my sons 2022 SX125 at 12 hours. I really appreciate them taking care of it. It's not going to be cheap for them if they end up with many crank failures.

The cranks are the real issue, ”we” have rebuilt all new 125s before they have even been started.
