Some people have to try hard to be decent humans, for others it just comes natural.

Dayum. He's gonna be all kinds of purple over the next week. If I took a hit like that I'd break in several pieces and I'd be done.

Comfort I get it 🙄 but we should all be wearing more than a roost protector and athletic material jerseys. I'm guilty of it too, but just saying.

What do you wear to stop a rabid 450 though, chain-mail?

Good news ! This kid will eventually get some championships in the big bike class. Unfortunately for him he’s had some rough goings as of late. learning some hard lessons along the way.

More than a spandex jersey. The pic with the “back protector” showing seems like it barely covers the spine section. Now I had this happen to me where the guy rode straight across my back with a full chest protector. I had a burn on each arm and a burnout across the plastic, nor was my jersey torn at all (100% cotton). Now we were on 250 2strokes so I guess they don’t do as much damage. that shirt came apart like a wet paper towel.

Klim makes a ballistic jersey, wish he was wearing one of that type last night... modern mx jerseys offer absolutely zero protection of any type

I think whatever material jersey he is wearing the factory Honda 450 at panic-rev wheel-speed is going to do some damage. Even if the jersey remains intact, the underlying tissue is going to have some issues. I’m definitely glad he’s ok considering the amount of protection he had… I agree that more protection is better, and it would be cool to see advancements made, but comfort and restriction are factors too and probably more-so at the highest level than our level.

I guess they do need that lightweight breathable fabric out there when they all had winter jackets on before the gate drop. I guess this beats what the guys in the 90s wore as I think most only wore a jersey with no protection underneath in SX.

Do you really think those old 2mm cotton pads sewn over the sleeve of your elbow actually provide protection?

He’s wearing a front and back chest protector, not much else you could reasonably do to prevent scratches/burns where he got them short of wearing a leather suit.

What you actually think a jersey is going to with stand a 450 rear tyres spinning?

It looked like his visor was gone before the crash with Cooper even happened. That thing doesn't like to stay on. Glad he is okay!

Although chain mail is obviously ridiculous, you are on to something here, high tech flexible weave of embedded carbon or something. I believe in the future. Be cool if there are some textile experts that can weigh in.

The protection we have is woefully inadequate.

Only a tougher-than-nails SX/MX’er would consider that a “minor bruise”…most people would consider that a serious contusion/abrasion/bruise. Looks like you can see the real bruising is ijust starting below the abrasion. I suspect it looks a lot worse already.

I’d much rather have a jersey shred itself instead of binding up and sucking you into the wheel

No jersey is going to keep his skin from getting burned like that but it shouldn’t tear away like it’s made out of napkins. Is it spandex?

Please enlighten me as to what brand can withstand a spinning wheel from a 450. I’ll wait.

Surely you can’t think that’s a good comparison
