Couple things I learned at Detroit

Ive been to Detroit many times for Supercross but a few things have changed. I carry a flashlight everyday. Been to many concerts and Sx's with it and never had a problem. They stopped me at the metal detectors and told me I couldnt take my flashlight in even if I took the battery out. So I walked in the cold back to our car and dropped it off. The real funny thing is that during opening ceremony they called for the crowd to all point their flashlights at the track. I told my wife I hope that guy that stopped me feels stupid right now! Haha
Another thing is that they dont take cash for anything anymore. It started with the parking garage (which was $50 OUCH!!!) and I had to pay with a card, then once inside Ford Field I went to get a beer, a few pops, and some popcorn and all they take is cards. Then they want you to leave a tip for your server on the card. I always tip in the past and just give them a dollar or 2 but this was different. It didnt ask for a dollar amount either it was percent options like 10%, 15% or 20%. We also stopped at the T shirt counter on our way out. I figured it was just a Ford Field thing and these T shirt guys will take cash for sure. Wrong again, cards only. I carried a pocket full of cash for us at the races and didnt spend a dime of it. Seems like times are a changin and we'll have cashless society before you know it. Gotta track where you've been, and what you spend your money on I guess. We had a great time at the races though. We had 13 seats in a row up on the second tier front row with mine and 2 other familys. 6 adults and 7 kids. All of the kids had a least one buddy to talk to and us adults got to hang out again. We dont see these guys as much as we used to because of job changes and such. There was some great and exciting racing and everyone had a ton of fun. See you next year Detroit but Ill leave my flashlight and cash at home.

I'd walk pretty damn far in arctic conditions before paying $50 for parking. Fuck the parking mafia.

I’d throw the flashlight in the trash before walking back to the parking garage in the cold.

Yea. The cash thing was a shocker for me too. But I guess that’s normal now since Covid for these big venues. All the local surrounding places are cash. And the local small lots are still cash only.

Boomer! Wow you got him good! I bet you like using “Karen” too. I love that your generation has to come up with insults that no one deems offensive. Kinda loses the purpose of an insult.

Flashlight on your phone is what they were talking about lol. But yeah last year at Indy SX I brought like $75 cash with me for food, shirt, program whatever. Ended up having to pay with a card which is pretty annoying

Crazy. A few years ago the gate I went through for daytime qualifying had no metal detectors and my 1911 was in there with me. Lol..

I get what you are saying. It is odd and frustrating a bit for a guy like me that believes cash is King. Last concert we went to (in Detroit ironically), I had brought along $400 in cash and never touched it. And I agree that it’s due in part because of the whole tracking thing.

You aren't important enough for anyone to want to follow your movements. Cards are more convenient.

They charge that much because people don’t normally enjoy hiking around Detroit at night.

It was pretty cold last night and we had 3 kids. The less the walk the better, but the main reason is at about 5 when we got into town traffic was NUTS. Then we finally got to the parking garage and turned in and realized it was $50. No way could I back up back into the street. At that point it was too late.

Dude, your story is The Perfect Moto-Family Story for those of us that ACTUALLY READ...ALL OF IT! Grinning

Yes, the fi-system is turning VERY "electronic" and -yes- it seems NO ONE wants us to use cash. No worries. Life changes and we will eventually have almost no actual cash around the house...or...maybe some of us will ALWAYS have a few dollars in the safe (wink).

Ya know what I really enjoyed? The Moto-dude stoke you shared and the wise choice to get the seats that you did. Best of all: 3 families sharing the Stoke.

Nice!

I tried to use a hundred dollar bill at a coffee shop, fast food place and CVS and was told they didn't have change. A burger place at lunchtime can't break a hundred? CVS? What bullshit.

The no cash thing really caught us off guard at Anaheim. There was zero warning of it online anywhere. Like you, we didn’t find out until parking that everything was card only. They had machines inside that you put money into and it spits out a card for you, but of course we were charged for that. A warning before going would have been nice.

IMF, central banks and governments don't like cash (it's anonymous). They want control and intend to eliminate cash. This is no secret. I was surprised to see that cash was not accepted at the Arlington race and wondered if it was an AT&T stadium thing or all the Field events. The prompts for the overly generous tips were a bit annoying as well. At least parking was only $20 I guess. My kids and I had a great time, but it was an expensive night.

Sounds like great time with friends and family.
A cashless system is going to make life easier for the government to get every last tax dollar out of you and you will be defined by your credit score and like now you pay higher interest rates for less status and the government will be able to lock your account when ever they want. Life will be 10x more expensive if these young generations get everything they want.

Boomer here. We went to Arlington SX. I had bought all 5 tickets. They are paperless but I could see them on my phone so I didn't sweat it. Waiting in line outside ATT stadium...the PA says, "Every person must have their own ticket. Please send each person in your group their own ticket". We had about 20 minutes before the gates opened so I started sending the tickets. Of course, the wouldn't send.

My phone wouldn't get service. The only thing I could figure was ATT stadium doesn't like T-Mobile service. Blink I was getting pretty panicked. Thankfully, the gate attendants were super cool and we had no problem. All the stadium folks were excellent...in fact, one of the food court managers carried our beers to our seats (they have a 2 beer per person rule and I had 3 for the adults).

Our seats were on the 45 yard line and the lighting was great...the huge screen was awesome. I recommend the Arlington round.

Arlington is THE stadium to go to because of the people.

Love that place!

Free parking at the casino isn’t allowed if you have minors in the car. Found that out the hard way last time I went to supercross in Detroit.

Honestly, I had an increase in card fraud about mid 2019 (looking at you Starbucks and Vans) and I just keep everything turned off until I use them and immediately turn them back off.

No cash though, especially at souvenir counters, seems pretty ass backwards. But given the location, they are probably worried about theft.

I for one love the cashless thing. Carrying cash and dealing with change is a pain in the ass. Now you can just tap your card or phone and you are done. Plus you get miles and points and cash back on tons of credit cards.
I’m not young by any means, 43. I stopped using cash a long time ago. I only have cash if I’m in Vegas to gamble with.
Almost all venues and stadiums are cashless now in Colorado.
