I guess this one way to keep price down. Also some people may prefer the current gen so that is another advantage. Honda did it with old 2020 in 21 to sell old stock. Suzuki has been doing it for years. Is this GG MO going forward?

I know the last couple years have been hectic, but you do know it's still 2022, right?

Note: Honda still offers old gen for 2022.

I think its a great idea, at least everyone will know that the bikes are different if you buy a GG instead of a KTM. Now all they need to do is create a difference between KTM & Husq.

The current generation frame and motor are superb, there is no reason to get rid of it at this time.

It's pretty current for "old" technology.

Solid and proven.

But that's MX. Only as good as your last ....
And yes KTM is at the forefront. Have been for over a decade in off road and since 16 in MX.
Not calling a 22 design old tech, but how else in words do you define it? Simply?

I suppose you could call it the second most advanced platform available.

I think current is a better way to describe it. I think the plan from the start was to have KTM lead, Husky going a slightly different direction, and the Gas Gas be the "fun" budget minded brand.

I am a Suzuki die hard........so I know what "old" technology is Smile

Kind of a bummer as I was thinking of going GG for the next gen TBI off road bikes but I'll either stick with the white ones or maybe get an orange one if they come in a lot sooner than the huskies.

It's interesting that these will be available now which seems early for a new model year. We will see if they are building out the remaining old parts and then switching all production to the new platform later this year or if 2024 GG looks like 2023. There are usually benefits to the assembly line by keeping things as similar as possible.

The move certainly makes sense, but I'm actually surprised ML would say "there is no surprise". I was not expecting this.

We knew about it and I've said in multiple videos we've done and features for the past six months or so that GASGAS would stay on the old platform for another season. I brought it up a lot in the Prado/MXGP GASGAS feature we did as that team is on the new platform under old plastics...but the US team will have to race the outgoing bike for all of 2023 as well.

Not really a '23, is it! March '22... this is a 2022 model. It's not from the future!

Seeing as how the new KTM has been really hard to dial in for the factory guys. That's most likely the reason behind leaving the model alone for another year. Make sure they work the bugs out.

Nah. This product pipeline was always the roadmap for the brand.

What might be interesting is to see if, given the ongoing global logistics issues and the long lead time on all componentry, they will be able to get more '23 Gas Gas onto dealer floors than KTM/Husky.

So ML, lay some knowledge on me. I know this has been pontificated upon recently, but do you see this as a major disadvantage for the stateside teams? I understand the need for a manufacturer to constantly push development. But from a team’s standpoint, it seems like there would be some advantage to remaining on a tried and true platform. If anything, the orange and white teams will surely have some killer baseline settings to send down to the red team in (presumably) ‘24, no?

I don't get how this question effects only stateside teams? The MXGP teams all went to the new bike, including the GASGAS operation, since there's not a production rule and they can ride the new bike. No Austrian factory team over there stayed on the old bike.

The US GASGAS teams will still be on the old platform. I was wondering if you believe that to be a disadvantage for them, compared to the GP teams getting the new platform under old plastics. In my uneducated opinion, I could see this as actually being an advantage for Barcia and the crew.

How do you figure? Suzuki is running the 2010 bike basically. Gasgas has the 2017 ktm with the improvements made in 2019 (narrower plastic/frame) and 2021(fork settings).

Makes me wonder if GasGas will have a factory edition next Fall or Winter on the new chassis ahead of a 2024 model. That Austrian bunch has some pretty shrewd marketing people.

Suzuki was mostly new for 2018: all new chassis, suspension, electronics, and a major engine revision

Suzuki will be all new 2023 and GasGas went with 2017 KTM design with new stickers. Stamp it.

Or 2023 Suzuki doesn’t even get new stickers and gasgas gets updates in 2024 and Suzuki finally gets new stickers? Gasgas is meant to be a less expensive ktm to compete with the Japanese at their price point. It seems to be doing pretty well in shootouts against the all new Honda and nearly new kx250.
