WHEN did US oil production peak?

WHEN did US oil production take a dive?

And...why?

ps-IF we backed out of ALL Russian Oil Contracts...it would "defund" Vlad's F'd up assault on The Ukraine.

I'm jus' knowin'...
I think the Chinese would still buy Russian oil. The bigger issue is Russian natural gas. Without it the EU freezes, has no lights, and starves (no fertilizer) because they stupidly got rid of most of their coal and nuclear plants for wind, solar, and gas turbines. Even Poland which still has some coal plants stopped mining coal to buy Russian coal instead.

Every drop of oil produced anywhere affects the global supply and therefore price. I don't know if the Saudis can crank up enough production to replace Russian production or not but then you would still have the Chinese trying to buy Russian oil for a discount.

Will still ride but change my way of getting there. I'll park the Ram1500 and heavy enclosed trailer, hook up the very light weight, old school open 3-rail trailer behind the 6-banger Challenger "29MPG on the Hwy" and head to the track. Just like we did back in the 70's.
Best way to stay positive with all the BS going on here in the states and world is to ride, and often.

It will for sure impact where I ride. I typically have to drive 1.5-2.5 hours each way to ride anywhere decent. I normally race our provincial cross country events. Unfortunately they are starting to charge unreasonable entry fees which impacts decisions as well. Will try to cut back spending in other areas so I can continue to ride and race in the places I enjoy.

Gate fees increased $5/person for cross country races here. Organizers said costs are increasing quickly. Just the cost of arrows and tape to mark the course nearly doubled in a year. $600 went to $1150 per race.

Indeed there has been increased costs across the board. Unfortunately this promoter (Off-Road Ontario) when they took over years ago have been in the business of taking more money and doing less for the racers. I work with another large club that runs their own series and have a general idea of what it costs to run an event and they do it for roughly half the price. Is what it is I suppose.

My company manufactures and installs fiberglass composite pipelines for the oil & gas industry. We have had more PO’s placed in the last 7 days than we had the first 2 months of 2022 - and we couldn’t keep up then.

I also know there is a huge scramble to get drilling rigs up to Wyoming/Montana where this is higher yields of natural gas.

You would think situations like this would help politicians on both sides see the need to increase production in the US, but history points toward that not happening.

Don't even have to drive to get to work over here. Local track is close but everything else is really far, definitely gonna try to carpool more this year if Im going somewhere. I've been half ass trying to move to oklahoma for a while now, but this maybe puts a damper on those plans.

Saw the writing on the wall the day the current administration got elected. Sold my Transit t-250 at a profit (15mpg average) and got a Metris (24mpg average). The Metris was also 10k$ less and has way better suspension. Luckily here in Boise the track is within 30 minutes for just about everyone.

Might have to get some dualsport wheels/tires and ride to the track and swap them when you get there 😅

I've got a Ram 1500 that I can get over 20MPG if I drive with a feather foot while loaded. But with two bikes, gear, a chick and a heavy foot through the middle of the country I'm looking more like 15-16MPG and at roughly 3600 miles for the total trip looking like about $1k in fuel.

Certainly not life changing money, but still a pretty penny. Luckily my work schedule is flexible, so I can wait it out and see where it goes. $4.75/gallon is my breaking point haha.
This might help a little...I hope.

Use "Gas Buddy" on the web or as an app...and plan out your gas stops based on price.

I have to drive 600 miles from Dana Point to Redding and then 600 miles back...ALL the time. I hit the Gas Buddy app to see where the good gas prices are. On my last trip I had choices between $4.79 and $4.19 So...I know it works.
Grinning

If you're goin' from PA to CO, you're gonna cross a few states where the gas is so cheap that'll it actually PISS YOU OFF when you get back home!
Last week in Texas, I paid over a dollar less than I do at home! Pinch

A coupl'a other things I do more often than I once did...
Check Tire Pressure and run it a little higher for mlg.
Run the same Continentals that Ford put on the van (OEM tires) they're pseudo LRR tires.
Keep good oil in it

And all that crap.

When I REALLY want to squeeze a few extra miles out of it, usually because I don't want to interrupt a good pos-cast...like the recent Whiskey Throttle with Rodney Smith...or it's too damn cold or hot where I'm at or the dog is chillin'...I get in the right lane and cruise with the big rigs and maybe even draft them a bit...

Any ways, I'm hopeful that you'll load up and get your trip in when you want to.

Good luck!

Good analysis. I'd invested in domestic co's that were part of the industries infrastructure (Like Kyle978 talks about) and switched to just trading on barrels. It's gone nuts lately and keeping an eye on it to see when a down turn is coming is the next "get out" move.

It looks like we've got some domestic producers expanding again; but, when and where isn't very evident...yet...that's as far as seeing avtual new locations or resurrecting the coupl'a pipe-line projects that were job makers

I'm in somewhat of the same industry. The company I work for is a leader in manufacturing rotary vane pumps, reciprocating compressors, and centrifugal pumps for the oil and gas industry. We have had record sales the last few years. When the price of oil rises, we get more orders. When oil is cheap, we are sitting on our thumbs looking for work.

At $4/gallon, that's $40.
At $5/gallon, that's $50.
At $7/gallon, that's $70.

So if gas went crazy up to $7/gallon, you are talking about $30 extra compared to the price of gas (about $4 in So Cal) a year ago.

Doesn't seem substantial when you put it that way.

But...if the price of gas goes to $7/gallon that is going to greatly affect the cost of all of our every day goods, life in general will be considerably more expensive. This is going to lead to less disposable income for most folks = less riding.

Yeah, I think people see high prices at the pump without doing the math of what the real magnitude of the difference is. It's usually not as bad as it seems.

I average driving about 15,000 miles per year in my truck at 15mpg. So that's 1,000 gallons/year.

So my annual gas cost at various pump prices:

$3/gallon = $3,000 = $250/mo
$4/gallon = $4,000 = $333
$5/gallon = $5,000 = $416

Yeah, I prefer the lower prices. But the price I'm paying now is only about $166 more per month than I was paying two years ago when gas was really cheap during early days of COVID.
You say only $166 more per month like it’s no big deal, but to a lot of us that $166 breaks us…

I was planning to race next weekend until I started doing math. Thought maybe we could do practice the day before instead, but cost was still too much to make practice possible either.

I’m not it a spot to write off $166 or more per month for gas and having that extra $166+ would make things a bit more possible for my family and I.

I motorcycle commuted a lengthy commute for many years. I did save a lot on gas versus a car. That said, the high cost/low durability of motorcycle tires ate up a significant portion (probably most) of the fuel savings.

Gas prices are obviously high and given what's going on with oil and gas futures this week on the back of Ukraine, they are heading higher (possibly significantly higher in the coming days and weeks). Just curious if this has anyone re-thinking their moto plans this year? Less travel which means attending fewer races, less practice, etc? The moto scene has been really strong for a couple of years now. Could gas prices start to reverse this?
I am more thinking I'm going to be putting around on the pontoon more than in the ski boat. I will still ride the same as last year which is not enough.

I said fill up. Not fill up from empty. Exactly the same car in the UK as the US, same amount of fuel and those are the price comparisons.

If you want to know why I don’t fill from totally empty? Gas stations in the uk are mainly pay at the pump and they (until quite recently) had a £99 pre authorisation limit on the credit card transaction which was about $135. So I put £99 in there and basically for the same amount of pretty much be able to fill up three times here.
