Where in the world is Anderson getting that McGrath speed?

All at once, Ando is the fastest guy on the track. Is it sustainable?

He looks wild, but also in total control of the bike! Love it!

His MO in 2018 was consistency (when faster guys weren't).
Now, four years later (and older) he's the fastest guy on the track.

Remarkable.

He's always had the speed.
But...also the nagging injuries that come with it.
And, I'd go so far as to say, a bike that wasn't up to the speed he's been capable of.
Until this year.

I don't think at any point before this year, anyone would ever say that Anderson had more raw speed than, say Tomac. Even in '18 when he won the title. He looks better now than he's ever looked (on 450s at least.) Hard to explain, but good for him.

I find there is a big difference in 'feel' between riding a Japanese motorcycle vs a KTM/Kusqvarna/GasGas, and I'm more comfortable on a Japanese bike. Jason has been on the Euro bikes so long perhaps he feels better on the Kawi? Fresh start, new motivation? Either way, it's pretty to cool to see him flourish at this point in his career.

Seems like he has a cute new wife watching him now. Maybe he’s motivated to show her he’s got the competition handled ?

Word is that he is putting a lot of hours on the bike at numerous practice tracks.

Been an el hombre fan for years... dig his new found speed... but, he has been making some really sketchy decisions on the track... hope he can keep it in two wheels the rest of the series ...

It's not really anything to do with speed. He was already arguably the fastest.

He was blindingly fast in 2021. In fact, he passed the most riders of anybody last year. He was also the worst starter in the factory field, with an average start position near 10. Ferrandis, who was the second worst in 2021 has taken over the role of worst, and we know how that is going for him.

Yep.
His speed was well known back in his 250 days, when bad starts had him hauling ass through the pack to run down, and usually pass, Seely.

We're seeing the same, fast as shit, Jason Anderson.
Just without all of the people in front of him after the first turn.

The Kawi is a great bike with very stable/ neutral handling. Maybe he's just gelling with the bike moreso than expected

Anderson rides for Kawasaki.
McGrath advises for Kawasaki.
That's where he's getting the "MC" Speed. Not all of it, mind you, but any "MC" speed he's getting is likely coming from the man himself.

Wasn’t expecting him to be battling for wins this year, past couple years felt like he was on the decline of his career. Good to see him re-emerge as a winner. Hoping he carries it outdoors and is selected for MXoN

I wonder if that's something Webb is thinking about too.

Last year, I posted ALL 2021 SX starts to display that Ferrandis (in red) was the second-worst factory starter in the 450s. Here, I have highlighted Anderson in yellow. He was the worst overall 2021 factory 450 starter.

And unlike Ferrandis, these starts were despite earning multiple #1 gate pics.

how dare you insult El Hombre by saying his speed level is equivalent to MC.

MC would get his boots blown off by >50% of the current SX field

The most impressive thing to me about anderson is how hes flicking that bike around and putting it where he wants it like its a 125. Idk if hes always done that and i wasnt paying attention but its very impressive

How dare you even mention the great MC and Anderson in the same sentence. NO where near McGrath speed. Do you even know what names you are throwing around?

Maybe it's just me but if he was indeed the fastest guy in 2021, as you are saying (I think?) then even in some of those pics, he should've at least had a couple wins, which he did not. So I am not on board that he always was the fastest guy or that he was the same guy last year. I don't see that at all. To me he overall looks much better this year. As to why, could be a number of things, I do not know.

His average start position was about 10. That is an atrocious deficit to secure wins from and even difficult to podium. We think of Eli as an inconsistent starter, but he averaged around 6 at the start, and Webb was around 3.

I am not saying JA was always the fastest guy -- he was not. But, indeed, multiple times he was the fastest guy, and throughout the season he passed the most riders out of anybody.

Dude was crazy fast last year, and the results didn't bear it out largely due to him being the worst starting factory rider.

It is great that, for whatever reason this year, he is begining his races closer to actual contention.

To answer the obvious OP question. NO his speed and luck are not sustainable. he's riding over his own head every round. Tomac is handling this championship easily. And he's not even tapping into his Beast mode speed.

That's a good possibility. While Webb has had great success with KTM, he does not look like himself on the newest model. I wouldn't doubt he leaves KTM if another brand comes calling. All speculation of course.

I think it's more of Jason's riding 'style' that makes him look a little wonky at times. I don't believe he is second in points with a couple wins under his belt by riding over his head. He's going for it, no doubt about that.
