When was the last time someone raced two stroke in MXGP class?
"At the end of last year it was announced that Nicholas Lapucci would be making the move up to the MXGP World Championship with the Maddii Fantic Racing team he won the EMX250 title with. The initial plan was for Lapucci to race a 450cc four stroke but it’s now been confirmed that the Italian will line up with a 250cc two stroke in the MXGP world championship.
It’ll be pretty cool to see how Lapucci performs on the two-stroke against the four-strokes. The Italian hasn’t had the best of off-seasons as he picked up an injury but still raced the International Italian series. He might not be fully fit for the opening round but he’ll continue to improve as the season progresses.
“Two strokes land to MXGP World Championship. We’re glad to announce that Nicholas Lapucci will compete in the MXGP World Championship on the Factory Fantic XX250. The great successes achieved pushed us in this exciting adventure, making two-strokes lovers even more thrilled of this new chapter. Can’t wait to let ourselves be totally overwhelmed by the strong enthusiasm of 2022 world championship”, Fantic stated on social media."

We can't have even a 'squared up' 250 2T (292cc) , going up against the 450s.
It's pathetic, these handicap rules that still exist in the MX2, MXGP and US SX and Outdoors, just pathetic.
At least EMX250, that he won, has equivalency, yet, there are still the 2x and 1.75x capacity advantages in the World Championships Classes. It's bloody bizarre to have such rules still in place.
I'm surprised at this announcement that Lapucci is using a 250 2t, but, if he prefers it over a 450, well, good luck to him. He's going to need it, as much as a fan of him, Team Fantic Maddi and Jan Witteveen as I am.
Lapucci is crazy fast on that 250 so I'm sure he'll have some decent showings once he's completely healed up. However I also believe he'll very quickly realize what James Stewart did back in 2005...250 two-strokes are simply no match for 450 four-strokes when it comes to racing.
Nicholas' perfect bike might be a 350 but he's unfortunately on the wrong manufacturer at the moment for that option.
Pit Row
I know Lewis and Bob at GL12 and he was doing everything to grow that championship. Once Bob left the GP’s that championship went completely downhill…
I’m curious of what Lapucci can do in MX1! Last year at the international of Italy he was doing really good in the super finals and this year Tondel is riding really good on that bike too. I think he can score some points here and there on his best tracks once he is fully healed up.
We need 300cc two strokes injected into MX before electric bikes take over. ICE's demise is coming so let's have our fun now.
