How's anyone dragging Tony into this? He's earned the grief he's gotten in the past but for all accounts has been a good team manager over there. He did some dumb shit years ago though, many years actually. Fuck him, he's not allowed to grow as a person right?
Drag Tony into it? He’s the Team Manager! He’s pretty involved. He’s one of the guys that could’ve told Vince years ago that this stuff won’t fly or you’ll be looking for a ride. Did you see all the Star staff stopping Craig from doing something stupid after the race? If I were Tony I would’ve talked to the media right after the race and said we do not condone this. Not only did he make us look bad but he cost us a podium. That would have done wonders for their brand. Instead all you get is mealy mouthed excuses from the team owner. Used car salesman speak telling us differently than we saw. That just makes them look worse to most of us.

I watched the replay a dozen times in super slow mo and freeze framing it as I went to the point of contact.

My conclusion was he was battling for the lead, brain farted and came in too hot, had ZERO option of trying to make a move for the inside line, split second decision takes him into the outside line where he tried to stay inside of Craig. Momentum took him into Craig and they both ate shit. I never saw any intent to take Craig out. Since nobody here has it ever will be battling for the lead in a SX I don’t think any of us can relate to the split second decision making in the heat of battle.

I don’t recall hearing Craig or his team going ballistic over the incident. I’m sure they watched replays and saw what happened and dismissed it as a unfortunate racing incident.
Yea Im sure Craig and star simply shrugged it off as a racing incident, no big deal, on to next week. Hey, I bet you would do just great working at the AMA.
After reading MCR's press release, I know one thing for sure, Friese and old Genova sure could use some old fashioned tegridy.

When the ama won’t enforce any rules on the most blantent dumb fuck take out of the year the I’m not surprised that mike doesn’t think Vince did anything wrong ,

I thought with j bone on there and a team we may get some better enforcement , he should have been fined and given the last gate pick for the final race

I honestly kinda feel like a dick for being overly critical of Vince’s move. I watched it again from the back view and you can clearly see he’s on the brakes hard. He got into line mode and came in too hot then blew through his. Just due to timing it went from an oops in a turn to catapult the lead.

A lot of people say it’s not professional and it’s “amateur level” racing. Okay? Are there people here who don’t think larger attendance local and amateur races are some of the best racing to watch, ride or attend?

I really truly don’t want to see people hurt, but… I think we need that back. Judge if you like, but you have to admit it improves the quality of racing and their racecraft.

No real intentional slams or anything awfully malicious, but let races race. The cheap shots won’t last long and the real racers will stay on their toes knowing to respect each other and just race.

Idk, I’m just surprised we haven’t had a nice discussion about that. I’m curious on everyone’s thoughts.

So instead of just admitting he was wrong and apologizing theyre making up some bs about how it wasnt intentional and theres nothing to see here. He doesnt get the benefit of the doubt on the 100th time. Christian could have been seriously injured. Not holding ppl accountable means theyre going to keep doing it… hence why Vince keeps doing it, hes never held accountable.

Why is it so hard to just admit youre rider was wrong, you talked to him about it, and hes going to try to be more mindful on the track next time so other riders arent literally afraid for their safety when this guy is on the track? Instead its deny deny deny. Im sorry but thats bs. Admit you were wrong, apologize, and say youre going to try to do better. If youre going to dish it out on the track the LEAST you can do is take accountability.

It was a bad decision, made by a guy with a history of bad decisions, but bless his heart because it feels good to argue about motorcycles again instead of all the other stuff we have been arguing about recently.

Agreed, I was never under the impression that Vince intended to take him out. Alternatively, though I think there was an intent to do exactly what he did and hope to hell it worked out. Stupid decision - yes, accidental - no, high probability of it going wrong - yes. Unfortunately, many of Vince’s decisions fit this same pattern. At some point the question of intent is less important than the outcome.

Anyway, I appreciate the content of the MCR statement. Regardless of intent, perhaps they can eliminate future stupid decision making.

I don’t think people should be hating on J Bone for not administering a swift kick in the ass. He’s new and feeling things out.

Dude has more experience in the sport than all of us combined. Once he gets settled he will be an asset to the AMA.

Maybe then watch Vince’s video posted recently. He says he never had any intent to go for the inside line. So he didn’t blow through it, he meant to somehow try and pass Craig there in that line. Somehow. He says they barely touched that it was because it was sand thst Christian flew so far. The thing he does though is cross lines in the air to block. That’s infinitely more dangerous than this lame pass attempt. Don’t feel like a dick for being critical. Dudes earned it over the past 13 years of this shit.

From Mike Genova:

I felt it necessary to address the incident involving MCR rider Vince Friese and Star Yamaha rider Christian Craig during this past weekend’s race in Glendale, AZ.

After close review by the MCR team and AMA, it has been agreed upon that while Vince’s line choice in the sand was not the smartest, there was no intent or malice in colliding with Christian. This is evidenced in the video replay that shows Vince braking hard, causing his rear wheel to slide and ultimately making contact with Christian.

That said, the entire MCR team and I are relieved that Christian wasn’t injured in the crash but also remorseful for how things transpired in Glendale last Saturday for all parties involved. Vince has personally contacted Christian to address the situation and express there was absolutely zero intent to make contact or knock Christian out of the race.

MCR understands that Christian is the premier rider in the 250 West class and is easily favored to win week in and week out. As the team owner, I want to make it very clear that in no way do I endorse, promote, or agree with any malicious or dirty act of conduct by my riders on or off the track. Our goal as a team is not to take out the current points leader and hope things turn out good, but to get great starts, race hard and clean, and secure the best results possible.

While there are varying opinions and perceptions of MCR and Vince Friese, those who know us know our commitment to professionalism is first and foremost. Our team is always striving to provide exemplary representation for our sponsors.
That’s not really good enough. Weak as p!ss.
No accountability taken on this from VF or the team.
It’s obvious VF has a mental block when the gate drops and some form of action needs to be taken to address this. I don’t know what the solution is but maybe take the wheel off his bike for a few rounds and let him have a think about what he has done.

How does a guy like Genova successful obviously smart and business minded end up follow the lead of Tony Alessi? I seriously think he listens to Tony to rationalize situations like this for him. I honestly think Tony is a big part of the problem just look at his track record.

Vince has been fortunate no one has been hurt to the point they can't race. He has gotten away with it for years, but only a matter of time before someone is hurt and taken out of the races. I don't think the AMA will do anything then either. Vince is "committed" to the way he races and refuses to listen to reason or consider another approach because he thinks he can pull it off. Unfortunately, he will ride the 450 series while the 250 west takes a break. We will continue to see him ride beyond his intellect and talent level all year, just fast enough to be in the way most times.

Vital appointed arresting officer: Mr Genova, you have the right to remain silent..

Mike Genove: But I don’t have the ABILITY!

Seriously, I just don’t like Friese because blocking, cross jumping and taking guys out is a shitty was to ride. He’s got a lot of talent, his starts are amazing, but I hate watching him plug up the track when he’s working his way to the back of the pack.

He's basically trying to diplomatically say:

It was Vince's fault

It was a mistake

We aren't trying to mess up the championship for the points leader

We'll try to do better.

These are all perfectly fine things to say. One could always say things differently, but trying to do so without either throwing the rider under the bus or taking more blame than needed is not so easy to do. The easier thing to say is nothing, so kudos for putting himself out there, knowing that he's in for a roasting from all the armchair managers who think they know better.

Totally, I’m just giving my opinion on this incident.

His past incidents, especially cross jumping, yeah.

Not much else they can say. They, and their sponsors, are taking a lot of flack and that could impact support going forward. That said, the 250 class is a development (or it was) class. Lots of faster riders than VF there but, they all line up behind him because they know what to expect when passing him.

Not a lot to say or do, riders in the pits (i don't know many) know the score. Reputation among riders is earned and all he's done is put the magnifying glass on himself the rest of the series. Can't see a scenario where this ends well.
I didn't realize at the time I wrote this that he was the president of Smarttop...... changes perspective a bit in my opinion.

Smartop is a product of Leisure Concepts, which is owned by Genova. I believe he also owns part of Leatt, the team gear sponsor. He also owns MotoConcepts, MotoGraphics and MotoOptics, also team sponsors. Not sure about Bullfrog but I'm sure there's some sort of partnership or relationship with Leisure Concepts.

Vince has developed such a reputation for aggressive riding that he now assumes other riders will back off even if they've got a wheel on him. EVERY OTHER RIDER would have realized they were relegated to the inside line in the sand corner as soon as they saw Craig next to them in the rhythm section, but Vince sees that and believes it's just another game of chicken where he'll roll the dice and come out on top. I’m guessing that now that he’s on probation his level of aggressiveness will be appropriate, proving that he’s been capable of that all along.

It’s hard being so hardcore as you playa. Some of the softest racers I’ve ever seen, RC, MC, Dungey. These guys passed a shit ton of people and very rarely with any contact let alone slamming. Soft ass pussies the three of them. The hardest of the hardcore are hardcore because they don’t resort to your tough guy pass technique. I think it’s a pussy move to cross lines in the air and brake check faster riders. Not tough at all.

Well, if you look at it objectively, Vince was just riding in a straight line, and Christian turned right in front of him.

Regardless of the statement from the spa people I liked the joke that someone made as a suggestion to give Christian a free hot tub if he complains of soreness afterward but I was really impressed by the actual interview where Vince Friese spoke to the Dirt Shark and he didn't sound like he was trying to cause any trouble or hurt anyone despite what you would guess from seeing his picture as looking like a tough guy or whatever previous bad press I heard about him or the Alessi's etc. Even though he switched lines way over the berm it sounded like that was the plan to rail the outside the way you do in sand to keep your speed up and if he thought he was in the lead he could try and pull that off and out-gas Christian through the turn around the outside but when he realized they might come together it wasn't a punt brake check but to avoid taking Christin out. Before seeing the interview I thought Vince might even be taking team orders to get into Christian which is the worst case scenario to hear as a fan as if he would be representing Honda to help out Hunter Lawrence but I don't get that impression now either. Tonight on the podium (that I was happy to see him finally make) Vince didn't get major boos but you could see he felt bad about it and took some accountability still stayed professional about his own effort/goals and this whole idea of riding a wide bike if you are ahead of someone is not dirty but how the best perform...in the Dirt Shark interview Vince said how in the 450's if you get a good start you have to try and hold people off or else you go backwards pretty quick and people compliment the Cooper Webb's and Jeff Emig's for doing the same. Even going over the burn still meant the lines were coming together and I thought the crash with Ferrandis versus Craig looked a lot worse as a takeout but it's high speed and angles that mea"take-outs" all over the place that other people on here mentioned as if this is Chinese food to create sensationalism entertainment or controversy with cameras in their face ready to record the action but this has turned into a good series and I like how the commentators like Ricky and Daniel who have been around the sport a long time are giving good insights on the race EXCEPT FOR THIS ONE INCIDENT now where I disagree on that call from Ricky that Vince was way out of line. Even Zach as a new commentator is being well received by me and the fans it seems BUT if you remember he pretty obviously took Savatgy down for a championship when he had the chance to catch up to him and put a move on him that wouldn't have gotten Zacho as many boos if it was the LCQ like they want us to enjoy seeing who's willing to risk it all to make the main event. If we should care about the LCQ racing hard to become main event lappers (that some people are even proposing we get rid of) then everyone else should celebrate all the racers for racing hard every lap at the highest level that they invest their life into just like we do. In the Dirt Shark interview Vince also said how he's never hurt anyone and that's pretty impressive if you consider trying to look in the rear view mirror and how many bikes are on the track trying to pass you and for how long his career has been. If he were doing this bad term called, "CROSS JUMPING" it would be a lot more likely to cause injuries if he did that all the time. Christian already knows Vince likes to ride a wide bike and go for it so he could take some accountability which it sounded like he did putting it in the past and Christian likes to wave his hands in the air in a collision as if to say, "WHAT WERE YOU DOING?" because he was on the outside and went flying away more in the air but if the other rider flew too and did the hand-waving instead now Christian could look more guilty for trying to sneak out the outside . A lot of racers can only think from their own point of view and apologize if they think they made a mistake but Vince will even say how Christian is more talented and faster and deserves to win but that doesn't mean he's just going to let him by for the sake of thinking he might not be in the points when he shouldn't and 1 crash by someone can quickly turn the whole season around which unfortunately happened to Christian in the past so I am cheering for him to take the championship for his after all his bad luck and to not get in stupid accidents so it is fair to hold Vince accountable not cause he's dirty but to keep others from ruining Christian's season to keep him the champ to be hat he is earning. Mike Alessi is a nice guy and it is easy to get caught up in the moment so I don't hold the bike sanding thing against him either since he and Ivan say they joke about it now and shrugged it off...neither of them had the big career numbers they were expecting but they respect each other as racers and dedicated their lives to the sport like most of us so it's all good with each rider. The only thing I don't like is a nickname like, "BAM BAM" where we want him to be reckless and take out people in his way which is not cool and what I saw someone else make a reference about on here similarly to a privateer getting a fine for another pass that the announcers considered to be crossing the line but it's not like you could hurt the DUCE DUCE and it was seen as funny that he passed him back as karma for appearing aggressive that I thought was over at that point as a not qualifying and banging up your own bike and/or getting hurt being a punishment in itself. The only time I would hold anything against Tony Alessi is if he had anything to do with Laser Gate, otherwise everything else racing is just racing that I have learned about MCR with Vince and Brayton and Mitch who are really nice guys who add to the sport as mentors and long haul workers trying to make a contribution and living at what they enjoy doing (which is not take-outs).
