Has anyone ever seen one of these were the guy actually looks proficient ? I’ve had a couple projects lately and I YouTubed them just to see what I was in for, and it seems like 90% of the videos it’s some guy that’s doing it for the first time and figuring it out as he goes. it seems like they make mistakes, have to do stuff over, braek fasteners, and pretty much do all the stupid shit that I’m trying to learn how to avoid. I looked up how to change the battery on a Yamaha XT 250, just to see, and the guy breaks one of the knobs off the plastic where it pushes into the little rubber grommets 😂. Are there any how to YouTube channels with guys and actually know how to do it ? Hey Boomslang maybe a niche for a proficient mechanic ?
I don't necessarily mind the n00b how to vids. I am watching to see what to do, and what not to do, and how hard it is - the vids provide all that information. It's far better than no resource at all.
I've been making videos for years and got started with the YouTube thing more seriously about 2 years ago. I've spent a lot of time on it, too much time but at the root of it, I just like making videos. It doesn't really matter to me the topic. My channel will never succeed because it has no "niche" but I don't care, I just enjoy going back and looking at the videos.
There are some solid channels on there with some really good information. With moto it seems most of the good ones are honestly channels done by companies such as Rocky Mtn and the like. I do like the "Dirt Bike Channel."
As far as my other interests such as Toyotas and Music..the good stuff out there is infinite.
That was a bit of a ramble but I like talking YouTube. Hope you can find what you are looking for on there, and I agree, I bet there are some guys on this site that could do some amazing How-to's/DIY videos.

I told him awhile back, wait and, I’ll help you do your brakes.
After watching YouTube, he did it himself. He found out the hard way, on a Mustang, you don’t press the pistons in the calipers. You spin them in. Well, all four calipers were now seized. Expensive lesson but, whatever. I just hope he watches a few electrical clips since he’s out on his own now. 😂
I get on kicks watching different things.
Woodworking: Tamar, Stumpy and some of the East Europeans building cutting boards. They don't talk though.
Metalworking: Abom79 is good if you have a lathe. This old Tony is fun too.
Funny stuff: AvE is a hoot. Canadian slang at it's best.
Music: Wings of Pegusus is pretty good. Rick Beato sometimes.
While I wish that they would let their stuff be shown, it's their intellectual property in the end so his rants get a bit tiresome.
He's got some good content otherwise, though!
Park Tool has a great YouTube channel for repairing bicycles.
Most of the How-to videos I've seen are at least "good enough." I must have missed all the doofuses.
For the most part that's true but it kind of depends on the type of work. I think most of the car repair vids are pretty good along with some specialized stuff like replacing certain parts on certain tools. Where it starts to get jankey is home improvement stuff. Maybe it's because that's what I do that makes me so critical but some of the stuff is just wrong.
If you like tearing into tools to see how well they are made, try AvE. Look for vids that have BOLTR in the title. He's crazy. That will be obvious, but he must be some kind of mfg engineer because he knows a shitload about how power tools are made. He'll take two cordless drills and lock the chucks onto a common shaft and lock both triggers on until one starts to smoke. He trashes tons of expensive shit. You guys that like to tinker, this is your guy.

Bear in mind, you have to get used to his slang. Takes awhile.
Skip through the idiots till you get on someone that has been through it like yourself. Then your on to something
Not, Ok were gonna fix this today, Start by taking this piece off........
........... it looks like..... oh yeah there's a bolt down there that must hold it on....... it's a .....looks a like 7/16 tic toc tic toc.... oh it must be metric...take a few sips of beer...... ok now this panel must pull off, ........or ...maybe.... slide off, or pull out then slide off..... oh the little plastic piece broke off, that's ok we don't need it......
I get it it's entertaining but if I'm trying to figure something out that shit drives me nuts
I want to hear from the guy that's done 100, Not Stoney Mahoney stumbling through it for the first time. Fuck at least stumble through it first on your own time and then make a video so it at least seems like you know what the fuck your doing
Trevor Jacob Plane Crash Vid
shit ton of folks capitalizing on his failure
The word Schadenfreude comes to mind.
I like Trevor, just don't know where his head was at making the VID.
Hope he is OK

Another good music channel is the Adam Reader's Professor of Rock . Great stories behind the songs.
Project Farm is also a good one for all of us "garage mechanic" type. Its great to see what products work and which ones suck. Saved me from making the wrong choice many a time
I really like his takes on the music, though; he often describes something I noticed before myself, and I concur. Or, he'll point out something I never noticed and it makes my enjoyment of the song even richer.

EDIT: I know you weren't looking for suggestions dood but, came across this guy when trying to fix my push mower.
My best mate got me onto Essential Craftsman a few years ago too.
Just a random one that is not related (but awesome) to what he does.
Further to this, I've watched videos from people with 100 views that have helped, gotten the basic idea of how to do things, and winged it.
