Bike will be too much for a guy who’s last time on a dirt bike was a 125 back in 1998, and will go up for sale on cycle trader with about 4 hours on it- or become a 14,000.00 garage queen that will forever have the new nubs on the OEM Dunlop’s until the day he sells it for a 4000.00 loss.

What’s wrong with that? Most guys spend more on wedding rings and rarely get to ride her. I hope I could find a KX450SR in the crate and keep it there.

These special edish bikes are awesome. Maybe I missed some info but I wonder if the head is actually different or did they decide to copy Honda who’s head isn’t really changed in any meaningful way.

The better question would be: Is a stock YZ450 better than a 450SR, WE, or FE?

Does Yamaha really need a special bike or just let the buyer bling it out themself with some GYTR parts if desired.

The friction reducing coatings work. The setting feels firm and well controlled with minimal chassis pitch under braking or acceleration yet still felt plush and planted on the hard pack track. Front end traction was good.

Great to see Kawasaki offering a KX450 "SR" model with significant engine and chassis upgrades that noticeably improves the feel of an already shootout winning 450 motocrosser...Let the Good Times Roll!






Does anyone know how many 2022 Kawasaki KX450 SR bikes are being built?

As a blu cru guy pretty much through and through, I would buy this thing in a heart beat. Put a full Hinson clutch assembly in it to beef up the clutch (only has a cover on it), send the suspension to Enzo, and then have Twisted add a vortex and tune it. Done and dusted, ride the shit out of the thing with a smile. When it comes time for a new bike, buy stock suspension, clamps, and pipe off ebay for cheap. Replace it and sell the bike. Keep the suspension, ecu, clutch, pipe, and clamps for the next bike. If you want off of a kawasaki you can sell that shit and make a pretty penny.

Do you guys know what is the stock position of the Bar clamps are from the factory on your 450SR’s? It looks like and feel like my bars are set at the position closest to the rider.

Also so far what parts including plastics and under the seat where it rubs the subframe are showing wear on your bikes?

And what type of fuel and motor oil are you guys using in your SR’s?

Stock setting for the bars is closest to the rider. So all the way back.

My son is a pretty fast B rider in Texas (raced Danger Boy and all the other fastest B riders in the Nation last week at Freestone). He says the bike is too fast, so we are running 93 octane.

At his level, he holds on pretty tight with his legs. Normal wear on the side plates and shrouds.

Side note, he was 3 seconds slower on his 450SR at Freestone compared to his KX250. The weekend before at an Area Qualifier at Johnsonville, he was 1 second faster on his 450SR. Difference, Freestone has some deep tight ruts and not much sand other than the woops at the finish. He can push his 250 harder in the ruts at Freestone. Johnsonville is more of a fast flowing sand track. Plus, he has been racing 250F's for 4 years now. He has about 4 hours on the SR.

Most of the top A and B riders at Freestone raced their 250's in the 450 class. My son did also after we looked at practice times. Mainly got the SR to race the Regional at 3 Palms in the 450 Limited (stock) class. Its a fast flowing sand track and the SR will be like a cheater bike off the start.

I buy some J channel (vinyl siding trim) and cut pieces to fit on the sub frame where the seat contacts the sub frame. It works well. Can get it at Home Depot or Lowe's.

Thanks for the info. I guess the Bars feel so far back because I have them set in the middle on my other KX450s. I will see how it feel when I ride it. I might move them forward a bit.

I was asking about the fuel not for more speed but more so for reliability on the engine and keeping the fi clean.

Have you done anything to the 450SR or is it bone stock still?

Oh wow thanks, as you can tell it’s a peeve of mine how much damage/wear happens where ever the seat touch the subframe. I like to keep all my bikes looking near showroom new. Do you have any pictures of the J channel you use?

Had the suspension set up by Race Tech certified Bob's Bumbsticks in Houston. My son is going to be racing it in the Limited (Stock) class, so we are limited on what can be changed. Will be putting a Pirelli sand tire on it.

We run VP Pro 6 at major races in his stock KX250 and it makes it come alive! Its $35 a gallon.

Google Home Depot vinyl j channel and a pic will come up. I use scissors to cut the nailing strip off and trim to size. It fits over the sub frame perfect!
