Ping, I'm on an 18 kx450 with A-kit SFF showa air forks. My front end feels nervous and the forks tend to blow through the stroke. The bike feels plush over choppy sections. Should I raise the air pressure(I'm at 145) or increase the compression clicker? I'm 195 lbs

Does it feel level or does the front end drop when you brake hard? Sounds like you need more air, then maybe open up compression clickers if it loses that plush feeling. Need more info though.

Coupl'a interesting takes on the most recent @Ping.

First, the notion that the Off Road community may be getting more love from the Vital overlords. Ping mentioned that there are a lot of guys that off road that are still into the moto and he's right on. I'm one. Cut my teeth on XC, moved to MX, then back to off road. I don't race MX anymore, (though I LOVE the XC events I do that use some MX as part of the course), but still follow the sport closely at the pro level. So maybe now we'll get more than just an obscure sub-forum that gets no traffic?

Second, his take on the idea that anti-covidvax sentiment is a major driver for the reason whey we're not sending a team this year. I trust his take in that he's an insider's insider, but I wouldn't have ever thought the vax entered into the equation. So that's not an issue for the ISDE guys? I get the perennial "bad timing" argument. I don't think it's a strong one, but I get it. Always thought where there's a will, there's a way, and I think that's the crux. We've lost our drive to do this race- for several reasons- but never would have thought vax related hassles would have been in that list. Crazy business this is.

I just listened to that and regarding your statement on the MXdN I agree . How long will these measures be in place is another question . It sounds like the event will be held here next year so our guys will participate but going forward will they be looking for reasons not to attend when it's held in Europe ?

Hey Ping!! Do you have a date for your 250F shootout?? Can’t wait! Most importantly...will you be sporting the stach?? And do you have to tweak the clickers a little extra to offset the weight of it?

...on a less serious question...I was looking at a new 450F but after hearing you say you were doing 250Fs with your experience I sorta thought why would I, a 56yo intermediate vet 170lbs 5’8”, be messin around with a 450F....thoughts?

Thanks, Shredder

Hey Ping, how about doing a nice and respectful interview with Jody Weisel? He sounded like he was tight with Mitch and Troy at some points so maybe they could help buffer things if they were there too.

Love him or hate him, he’s been one of the most influential people in the sport across 6 different decades, so it’d be great to have an episode or two to hear what he has to say.

I've asked him multiple times and he says he doesn't do interviews. Bummer.

Damn, that’s too bad. I’d love to hear some of the late 70s/early 80s stories that could be told!

Keep bugging him!

Ping, seems you would have a good prespective from both treating others and getting injured as a rider. What is the best first aid kit for both the car and weekend riding, we just ride practice days, so no medics at the track. If not a kit, what stuff?
Thanks!

Great interview with Craig! One of your best in my opinion. I was a big fan of his back in the day. He has an interesting story and he told it well. I hope we see him side by side with Christian this coming year. Life is short.

Hey Ping!

How about a whiskey interview with Casey Lytle? Would love to hear more about his career and time jumping quads while battling CJ during his YOT days. Thanks, and keep up the good work!

Hey Ping, which current 450 MX bike is your favorite and why? I've had every generation CRF450r since 2005. The Hondas are great bikes, and I'm trying really hard to like this new 2022 but something just seems a bit off about it. I don’t want to spend $11K on a bike that isn’t mapped correctly. My gut tells me I should make a switch this year. This new 2022.5 / 2023 KTM and the current KX's are really growing on me. What do you think?

Great show with Travis Preston. Wasn’t sure what to expect, I was never ‘overly’ interested in his career while he was racing (didn’t dislike anything about him, just ambivalent I guess).

But that episode ranks right up there as one of the most interesting and enjoyable so far! Great job bringing out the topics nice and slowly. Really like the way you are doing these mostly chronologically and organized, really adds a ton of professionalism to the interviews.

The most regrettable thing I did in my life was get frisky with my wife after handling and cutting jalapeños.

Today, I did the second most regrettable thing in my life today. I posted on here with an opinion. Won’t make that mistake again.

Pingree, I applaud you, the entire staff on vital, and really media in general that puts themselves and their opinions out there. Social media and keyboard warriors are not for the faint of heart.

I'll ask you as well, good sir. Can anyone logically explain why they can't atleast let a 150cc and 300cc rule be placed in the rulebook. My gosh, it's been 20 years. Can you atleast admit, Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, and Suzuki, that you'd be ok with 150 and 300s? Are you still afraid after 20 years, that a 150 and 300 are actually a threat? I mean, EVERYONE gets you're scared of the equal placement. But by golly, 20 years and can't even go to 150 and 300cc? Just shameful. I'll add, saying those makers don't make 2 strokes, should not matter in the 250/450 class, if they are not worried about the little 150/300. It shouldn't matter if 1 or 5, 6, or 8 manufacturers make them. The 250/450 are far superior, thus shouldn't make a difference. Or is it that they are threatened by the little 2 strokes.
Anyhoo, off to no where land for another 5 or so years of not posting here.

I've been really enjoying the catalogue of Whiskey Throttle. So cool hearing their background and thoughts on certain situations they were. You do a great job of bringing people out of their shell.

I was wondering if you have ever asked James Stewart to be on?

Hey folks,

I’m excited to announce that I have taken a position here at Vital MX as an Editor-At-Large. I’ll be involved with their bike testing department, as well as a couple other features here on the site. One of those, titled @PING, will be a weekly question and answer column that will post every Friday and provide insight on the most pressing issues in our sport. The answers may, or may not, contain humor, sarcasm, and/or toxic masculinity.

Post your questions on this thread or simply drop me an email to ping@vitalmx.com

Remember, there are no stupid questions… and if there are, I’ll answer them appropriately.

See you back here every Friday.

PING
Hey Ping,
E-bikes... do you really see the sport is going full electric any time soon? I can see the benefit of E bikes. No loud noise, less mechanical failures, and so on. But are we as motocross riders, and fans actually ready to give up the bikes we have today?
What about all the companies in this industry that make engine parts and all the other things that go into today's bikes? Will todays industry even allow itself to go full electric and potentially put all those companies out of business? I personally am fully against E bikes for racing at the highest level. They're great for free riding and practice but The day the sport goes full electric is the day I stop watching
