As a kid I would go in my parents basement and steal a layer of insulation from the rim joints…to pack my cr125 silencer .

C'mon guys, it's so simple maybe you need a refresher course. It's all pillow kits nowadays.

I bought SXS shorty muffler made by Doma? for my KTM 125 many years ago. Very good power upgrade and quiet for little boy. When it got a little raspy I took apart for repack to find pillow with only burnt section around core cause my jetting sweet and no oil mess. Turned inside out like underpants and put back together. Still more quiet than power core 2. Like underpants can get 4 repacks with pillow. So easy and no mess or hairy bits like 80's bush out of underpants.

You using masking tape to hold the packing in place? Me, too.

I've gotten fancy over-the-years, too. Now I repack silencers with Harbor Freight nitrile gloves. That's how I roll as a rider of "Vet Status" these days. I guess you could say I'm a "finer things" guy now.

Doug rented out his Norco location and moved to another more suitable (size) location in Signal Hill. I don't think he's actually up and running yet. In my experience he has always been a great communicator, maybe he's just focused on getting his shop in order. His business seems to be geared towards GTYR and supplying distributors, I don't think he does much of any retail but I could be wrong.

And there would be no upside to Dr, D responding here. ML512 tried it and got pretty much shit on for it. I just hope all is well for Dubach and he gets caught up. We know he's not the only one having issues.

You could buy a new muffler for what gloves would cost to repack it! It's a joke I know, but damn those gloves have went through the roof if you can even get them.

Crazy thing is, Dubach doesn’t need to do shit. Has he taken anyone’s money and not delivered product? Oh, you’re just pissy because you can’t buy a rad product he has made in the past? Get bent. Make your own muffler packing.

Owning a business is fucking hard. Pre-covid. Throw in the shit show that the last 20 months has been, and a lot of us are ready to throw in the towel. According to that screenshot posted, sounds like they’re on the verge of working some of this stuff out. Sit tight, be patient, and support a business that’s build a pretty flawless reputation once he gets back on track. Or admonish the legend’s good name because you can’t get your preferred muffler packing.
I’m so tired of hearing the “covid” excuse! That’s ridiculous, not a new 450 sitting the floor at my local dealers. In fact my dealer tells me it’s the opposite. Since covid bikes sells are better than ever. So If Dr D can’t answer the phone or return an email, that’s a shitty way to run a business. I got up & went to work today!

If you or anyone else is ready to quit, please do so. Covid is now becoming a massive crutch for poor business behavior and/or lack of accountability. If you don't want to answer the phone, respond to emails, or sell product....just say so and quit. Dubach was racing the World Vets two weeks ago, but clearly too busy to respond to a customer that reached out to them 11 times. How that is ok is beyond me. I hope you go to the grocery store for some milk tonight and find it closed at 6:00PM and they won't answer the phone. I guess you would think that is just normal business practice because of "Covid"

You and I must live in very different worlds. My local grocery store literally is on a reduced schedule. I bought a trailer this week. By appointment only. Have to schedule an appointment just to come give a guy 12 grand. I build high end custom homes for a living. I’ve got a 22 thousand square foot house that is at a literal standstill because the structural members are unavailable. The very specific fasteners used for the insulated sheathing can’t be sourced. Anywhere. The 60 thousand dollar stove will come from France some day. Maybe. Paint? Good luck.

Are you guys honestly not being affected by this? Because we are definitely not back to life as usual around my parts.

And the lazy quip is laughable. It’s not the amount of effort required to make up for all this that’s driving people away from wanting to carry on. It’s the unwillingness of customers to understand there are forces working against us beyond our control. You’re not affected at your grocery store, so you assume Dubach couldn’t possibly be having covid related supply chain issues. Or labor issues. Or shipping issues. It all gets to be more than a little tiring

Yeah completely different scenario. Dr.D Hasn't been taking money and not delivering goods, to only have bs excuses. As for the guy wanting packing, its not rocket science. Buy any bag quality 4 stroke packing and problem solved.

Does your grocery show the updated hours, or do the display the old ones?

How many times did you have to call to schedule an appointment to buy the trailer?

Are you communicating with the 22 thousand square foot homeowner, or are you letting him call you 11 times and not responding?

Not being able to get materials is not the same as not communicating.

I’m not trying to just argue the details of this situation on the internet. I’m not involved. Don’t have enough details to, and don’t want to act as judge and jury. I was offering some insight. If this all boils down to you reeeeaallyy needing to think Doug Dubach is a piece of shit because he didn’t get this guy some packing, so be it. I can certainly agree to disagree. My greater point is, we’ll all be feeling the effects of this for a while. Be willing to roll with the punches, or jump on the internet and stomp your feet. Good luck with it either way.

Everyone done?

I'm getting tired of seeing this topic at the top of the list everytime I open Moto Related.

I know it's off-season but ffs, is there nothing better to talk about?

It's insane to blame covid-related supply and staffing issues for failure to provide a minimum standard of customer service. The inability to provide a product or service doesn't entail an inability to communicate. Even if your business is forced into a temporary hiatus by covid-related issues, you can set up an auto-reply email message that informs customers and perhaps even points them in the direction of retailers that may carry your stock. Ditto for your voicemail greeting. It's really not that difficult.

Everyone understands there are supply chain issues these days. Lot of things out of business owners control but for crying out loud, COMMUNICATE!!!!. If you can't get parts/supplies, SAY SO!!! We've got too many ways to communicate these days. Internet, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. Answer the phone, reply to an email. If you want your customers to be there after this shit storm subsides then this isn't the way to do it.

So that makes it ok to not communicate and at least share the reasons? No, it doesn't.
