PC platinum 5.31
PC works 5.20
OEM 5.10
DEP plated 5.33
Cone pipe 4.90

I’ll be running the cone pipe to start unless the DEP ends up being that much better on the dyno. Overall the DEP is my favorite pipe for the yz250.










Next order of business was I have been helping work on some new Carbon Fiber stuff with my friend The Moto Log. You may remember he did the head stays, power valve cover, case saver, sprocket cover & exhaust hanger that I helped with figment & design that all turned out great! For these master cylinder covers we went from CAD —> 3D printed —> 1st samples cut —> test fitting—> minor adjustments. As soon as he gets the 2nd batch cut & I can verify figment he will make a post for them 😎 He will have the new style Yamaha front master, rear master & one for the Honda front master.












He is also working with Zesiger 112 & I on a recessed fuel cap for the RTech tanks. Zesiger 112 did all the ground work for this one as noted in his build thread & was the driving force behind it! Lucky for us I knew the The Moto Log just got a brand new 3D printer (per the master cylinder covers) so it was an easy call. Once I can test fit them & verify a few things he will also post them up if anyone wants one (I’m guessing black, blue & maybe red). Thanks guys, you all rock!!!





Oh & I made the switch from import to domestic..... 😎 (Scotch to Bourbon)


Dang that tyga ened up being the lightest of the bunch! Never woulda thought.

Testing a few more little things for those caps too. Zesiger has some good venting & sealing ideas & if that doesn’t do it I have one as well. Should have something hopefully here shortly to test them The Moto Log can finalize & make them.

While on the subject of things being light weight this make for a nice segue into my next area. I had a small window of time so I decided to compare clutch setups 😎 On my bench I have the stock setup, a Hinson & a Rekluse. Results are as follows:

Oem = 2703g
Oem Mg cover = 183g
Oem total = 2886g




A lot of people run these & I happened to have one as well so I threw it on the scale too for everyone’s viewing pleasure:
Boyesen Al cover = 279g (what a lil porker!)
There is a reason it’s in my spare parts bin....



Rekluse = 3142g
Special Rekluse cover = 288g (wow!)
Rekluse total = 3430g





Now for the good stuff 😁
Hinson = 2617g
Hinson with titanium bolts = 2591g
Lightspeed cover = 129g
Hinson total = 2720g 😎





So as you can see going with my Hinson - Lightspeed - Titanium setup saves 710g or 1.56lbs over the Rekluse unit. Quite a lot! However I would only save 86 if I used the Oem one with titanium bolts & the Lightspeed cover.

I will say that Rekluse is a very very nice unit though & has its benefits for sure. With the extra frictions they use I should have probably kept it until after I had my new fire breather motor installed & fully tuned but oh well. My Canadian friend wanted one so I gave hime a good deal & off it went.

That’s all for now. Hope you all are enjoying the info. It’s somewhat cathartic for me & keeps me going on this thing while dealing with all the other stuff life tends to pepper you with. And here I thought variety was the spice of life.... LoL 😂

I'd go full Hinson with the LightSpeed cover. If you are going to seriously race it though, going to a billet Hinson cover will offer much more protection I think. But a lot heavier.

With the stock cover being magnesium I've always wondered why anybody concerned with weight would want to change it, other than damage resistance. Obliviously the only thing lighter is carbon fiber, but I'd guess it to also be weaker.

Are any of those weights with aluminum drive plates? I'd think you'd pick up a decent weight savings with aluminum plates over steel. The cryo'd aluminum plates seem to hold up fairly decent.

Hey guys, hope everyone is doing well & staying safe. It has been waaaaaaay to long since I updated this so I figured it was time.

Over the past 4-5 months I have been finishing up our house remodel. Some of you may remember the rental house I was staying in flooded during the November 2020 hurricane. This was the exact reason why we remodeled our house & decided to lift the entire thing off the ground & build under it. I live on the water here in Tampa Bay so moving FW I will never have to worry about flooding again! As you can see it was quite the undertaking but we are finally done & moved back in a few weeks ago. My garage / shop is still a mess. Not as bad as a few weeks ago & I am slowly getting it organized but I should be done with it & back on to wrenching by the end of the month....🤞🏻

Back to the important bike stuff now as I recently made a few big purchases for the build 😎

First up is my buddy Mr. Robinson found me a nice weight savings with some cryoed-anoded-aluminum clutch plates. Thanks again! When they come in I will weigh them to see how much is saved.




Next Ross is building me a set of PSF1 A Kit forks. Figured if they work for Star Racing & I can save 2lbs what the hell right... LoL 🤣



I have a set of PC spring a kits I’ll probably sell after these come in & I am 100% set on them.


Last but not least I pulled the trigger & had Flavio go ahead & make me one of his carbon fiber subframes. I went back & forth on this one for a looooong time. I finally said F-it & ordered it. Hopefully it should arrive here soon & I can see what type of weight saving it got me!






That’s all for now. Like I mentioned above I hope to have the garage done & these new parts in soon so I can start putting it all back together!

Hahahaha, yeah bud it’s coming... I have it at the office warehouse still until I can figure a way to get it off the truck safely. I hope a cherry picker will do the trick! I also ended up finding a cheap 4x16 mini mill to go with it but I have been keeping an eye out for something a little bigger like a 6x20 or 7x27 (a Grizzly G0704 would be perfect!).

If I was going to order a carbon subframe I'd wait until they have the 2022 stuff ready to go then order the tank with it and update to the new seat and plastic.

Yeah good point however I already have the new R-Tech setup for the tank & shrouds. I even think they may be a little lighter than the OEM ones as well ;-]
Plus I just really couldn't wait for Flavio to make a new mold. I talked to him about it & he even said the new 2022 bikes are hard to get in Europe right now & he has only been able to lay eyes on 1 new 2022 YZ125

In a few weeks I should be back on track to start turning some wrenches again. I need to get the work area cleaned, organized & set up as I have everything in boxes still. On a positive note I did find a nice sized mill with a power feed for cheap so I picked that up yesterday :-D

Hello gang, been a while so wanted to update this a bit.
First off I hope everyone had a great Christmas and a happy new year!
Been splitting time between getting the house done & the garage organized so not a lot of progress on the build specifically. However Santa was good to me & got me some goodies.





As you can see a nice weight savings with the new bar. Hopefully it will be feel good too once on the track.

In addition I also picked up a moto stuff front 2mm line.
I didn’t have a free OEM line to weigh it against but I did have a nice braided SS one. I got the same value on my hanging scale so I also got out the flat scale. For what this thing cost let’s just hope the performance is better than the weight savings...

Cdoggy I think our tastes are way to identical with the toys lol. I’ve got an aluminum framed yz and steel frame yz I’m building up and I see your on the pro-touring sites as well. I’ve got my old 67 Camaro that I’ve had for years. Just wanted to say love all your posts!
