Contour info:
Evo info:
ACF info:
EVO = 664g (635g advertised)
ACF = 593g (no weight advertised)
Fat36 = 437g
Old gold = 635g
I’ll run the ACF against the Fat36 & my old Tag gold bar to see how the flex & vibrations compare so it won’t be 100% based on weight.
Clearly though the winning setup for max effort weight savings would be the Fat36 bars on a set of Luxon split triples holding up a set of PSF1 forks but more on all that soon 😎
Which bend did you go with?
The Shop
For the Renthal Fat36 I went with 934-01-BK which I think is the KTM, RM, YZ bend.
Glad you posted as I wanted to ask about the carb piece you had for sale too.
The STIC sold fast, but the guy who bought it has it back up for sale already. He wants the same price, but now it's used, and he is not including all the jets and needles I had with it. I wish I had known you were interested in one.
That being said I did slap a few things on to get it up & running last month in order to go ride with Hunter & AJ when they were in FL for the Daytona race.
but since I intend to actually ride this thing a lot I know the any colored rims will fade from wear around where it meets the tire & show tire iron scratches or various chips in time.
That being said I think I will now just go with a black hub, silver spokes (titanium material), black alum nipples & silver rims like this:
I know it is not as flashy but I think it will still look good overall & match up better with the bike.
I'll probably build a yz125 here soon that will be all black & gold themed so that itch will eventually get scratched!
I was waiting on a few parts to come in from Europe & the UK. Carbon fiber gas tank, titanium sprocket nut & hollow titanium peg pins.
Goal is to get some stuff done over the holiday weekend but I still need to clean & setup the garage space. It’s just hard to find any real free time. Does anyone else feel this way about life & adulting?
That being said & like I needed anymore distractions, I went to look at a running YZ125 here in town. After seeing the AMA sticker on the frame I saw it as a sign so of course that had to come home with me. It had nothing to do with the fact that I got it for $1800.... 🤣 The plan for this rebuild is going to be all budged oriented, buying parts that make sense & are a good value. I’m giving myself a $1200 budget so $3000 all in. Considering I’m getting close to $25,000 with this yz250 project, a budget build is probably a good thing. Don’t worry, I WILL NOT touch it though until this yz250 is complete! (that’s what I’m telling myself at least LOL 😂)
Any update?
Yeah, had a bunch to post with everything I did over Christmas break. However, my phone died on me around SX here in Tampa and of course, like an idiot I never backed up anything to the cloud or iTunes. This resulted in me losing about the last year and a half worth of pics of the bike as well as the most important stuff, pics and videos of my kids. That took a lot of wind out of my sails, and I wasn’t very motivated to continue posting.
I do appreciate you asking and I think this will help get me going again. Thank you !!!
Sorry to hear about your phone. Losing pics of the kids sucks.
love your build though.
Pit Row
Yeah, sorry about the phone. Look around, there are people who can get that stuff off that phone.
If you don't get some build action going on pretty soon you need to send me that CF subframe before the carbon breaks down.
Thanks Ace. Yeah, that was the suckiest part of it being sucky. 😫
True Mr. Robinson. I had one guy try to swap out boards but he only ended up cracking my screen in the process & then charging me $50. You’ll be my first call for the CF stuff, don’t worry… 😉
Found an old photo of us anodizing some of the titanium parts that I sent via txt to the wife of what the kids & I did one day a long time ago. Super simple, safe & they had a blast doing “science” with dad 😎
Love it!
So I wasn’t completely exhausted this evening so I decided to tackle the seats. I weighed the stock 2020 seat (blue & black one) as well as the one I had for the 125 as well. They were 1390 grams & 1500 grams.
I then stripped them both down & took the weights of the individual pieces. Found out the 125 seat had another cover on under the ribbed one which is why it weighed more.
35 grams isn’t a bad penalty at all for the nice ribbed seat. Not to worry though as I’m about to make it up… 😎 Thank you titanium hardware & light weight seat foam!
I’m going to shave the seat foam down a tiny bit as I got the tall version but don’t want it quite that tall. I think I’ll also look into Swiss cheese’n the pan to see what that yields.
Stay tuned 😁
Lot of work for a little gain. Looks cool I guess. Not that ANYONE WOULD SEE IT… LoL 🤣🤦🏼♂️
Next up will be the one with the Guts Phantom foam so we should see an overall bigger weight savings. Just need to borrow Mom’s electric “Thanksgiving” knife. Does anyone else besides your parents actually own an electric carving knife anymore?
Got both seats (did the yz125 as well as this one) all done😎 Final numbers were 1120g for the yz250 seat with phantom foam, Swiss cheese frame, titanium brackets & aluminum hardware. That is a savings of 380g over the old yz125 ribbed seat or 270g over the 2020 OEM seat (the OEM cover was thinner & lighter). That’s about .84 of a pound savings over the one & .6 of a pound over the other. Not too bad 👍🏻
Next up more anodized titanium hardware replacement….😁
This past 4th of July marks yet another circling of the earth around the sun since the start of this project. That makes it 3 trips now & I honestly I was a little bummed & down on myself for still not having it completed. I mean Billy even finished his KTM 350 build already! (& he has a full time responsibility of running a business) I got to get this done before he finishes that 150 smoker though… LoL 😝
That said I did find a little time over the past few days (mainly after the kids are down) to pull out the titanium box & start swapping hardware. If anyone is curious what $3500 worth of titanium weighs it’s about 7.7lbs for this particular build. Doing quick math that is about 14 lbs worth of steel parts so a 6.3lb weight savings right there. That doesn’t include stuff like titanium foot pegs & mounts, F&R rotors, a Ti shock spring or the special titanium spokes for my wheels. Then you factor in the carbon parts, Luxon triples, PSF1 forks & misc other little trick bits & I think I will be pretty close to my original goal of a 200lb rocket 😎
Looks great!
Any updates?
Sorry guys, not sure what the deal is as I didn’t get any notifications for some reason.
Update status is:
Mother Nature can be a real bieotch! Basically Idalia smoked my neighborhood & I’ve spent a lot of free time helping my friends tear apart their houses & slowly put them back together. Out of ~2600 homes in my area 1200 flooded in some way. It could have been 4” or 40” but the aftermath & cleanup is basically the same.
When the hurricane hit we happened to be in Switzerland with our friends who live a few streets over from us. Sadly we watched in real time on their ring camera the water slower rise & come in their house. It was a somber afternoon (& real a big bar tab…)
The storm hit near Cedar Key (way north of us) but bc we were south of the eye & the way they rotate counter clockwise, it blew about 3 feet of storm surge up into the Tampa Bay area. It didn’t help that high tide was also coming in either. I knew we were good bc we lifted our house (go back 2 years in this thread for pics) but a lot of my other friends in the community got hit bad 😩
