I was at the Vurb Classic over the weekend and we were all treated to CR22 lining up in the 30+ class. I'm curious if anyone knows what kind of support he gets from KTM? His bike sounded unlike any other bike on the track, super deep and throaty. Also, the WP suspension looked like it had his bike glued to the ground. I know, its Chad Reed riding it and he could make anything look great but this bike was just different.

Bikes from Mountain Motorsports. I’m sure someone is doing his motors. Unless he got a motor from KTM USA.

How was the turn out?

I’m one year away from +30 and I think it would be cool to get smoked by Reed.

On another note, back to hem Windham retired he still had his Geico Honda and brought it to a local fair race in MIssouri. He raced Pro Sport and absolutely waxed everyone. He then pulled off last lap to let the locals win and get the prize. But his bike sounded absolutely vicious. Revved to the moon and you could just hear the torque. On a sad note, this is when his good buddy Chris Blankenship passed away that night as well.

Jeremy from AEO is doing suspension for the Reed Family.

Who know about the motor, maybe Chad is is using MRPro6 and an aftermarket ECU, it makes a 450 motor sound different.

Sort of funny multi time champ need or wants mod motor for racing a bunch of never was 30 plus class, figure he would win on his kids 85.

Must love cool things like the rest of us, really want a fmf for my 450, not cause i need it, but it looks and sounds so good, lol.

Turn out was a little less than I expected but the quality of rider was extremely strong. Reed actually finished third in the second moto (3 moto format) and he was pushed in the final moto by Brandon Haas (ClubMX). The second moto was the first moto of the day and the track was sloppy wet. First lap Reed was 3rd when he pulled a tear off right in front of me and the whole stack came off. He ended up tossing his goggles shortly thereafter.

PC exhaust on the bike but there's no way it was just the exhaust producing a note like that. I didn't know fuel would make one sound different?

I wanted to go, but I’m not in race shape quite yet. I really hate the feeling of going racing knowing your out of shape. Some guys are good it, but not this guy.

IMO, he does not have any motor work done. A PC or FMF exhaust with an aftermarket ignition can make a KTM motor sound modded. Mine sounds crisp and throaty.

The temperature of the exhaust gas leaving the cylinder head has an effect on the sound or to be more precise on the speed of sound of the exhaust gas. The hotter the gas and the higher pitched the sound gets. Try leaning out your mapping and you'll notice the difference.

There’s a race in NC at the end of the month with a 20,000 dollar purse, if he is there I’ll use my life savings and claim his bike.

I’m sure he will get better racing with his kids. It’s not like he rides or trains like he used to. It would be pretty awesome to line up next to him.

Do you find it odd he rides a KTM. Maybe that is what Mtn Motosports wants since i am assuming he is still sponsored by them. Did he every ride a KTM in SX or the Nats?

I'm sure the motor has been blueprinted and cleaned up nicely. Not a full mod, but just enough to give Chad what we like. I could also see it just being, suspension, ECU, High Compression Piston, and $100/gal gas could do the job.

What fuel are you talking about?

U4.4 is $20 a gallon and MRPRO6 is like $190 for 5 gallons aka $38 a gallon.

Yes you are correct. MR Pro 6 is 200.00 per can with a discount. I was thinking of T-4.

Here are the empties from the fuel we used in over just 2 weeks for one pro rider and two nationals. (plus the rider drank some of it).

I threw away one empty MR pro 6 can at hangtown, there were five.

He would use five gallons a day for both the race and practice days.

Toward the end I substituted T-4 for practice days without telling him because it was getting so damn expensive. This is roughly about 1400.00 in fuel right here.

Big throttle openings make a bike sound great.
But not many people at the track can do it.

My exact thoughts. It's weird how much different a 450 sounds with a national caliper pro on it. Sounds like it's under a big load the whole time.
