Dealer said yz125 will arrive last because its new. 4-strokes coming in now and some on track already.

We ordered as soon as the announcement came out. Dealer says October. He also said it could be as late as February but we’re hoping to gets some rides in on it this fall.

Can anyone confirm that the clutch is the same from the 21 to the 22? I read the specs and Changes - I missed it if it is there.

well the reason i was told spring is because I live in Alaska so we always get things late.

Me and friend have two coming in october or whenever they arrive. Just out of curiosity does anyone know if any parts from the 21’ and down years will have any interchangeable parts yet? I’d like to go ahead and order bars and grips, possibly chain and sprockets and stuff like that Tongue

Obviously its still sort of speculative at this point but is there anything on how much they've closed the HP gap over KTM? Just curious if the changes added up to a lot or a little in terms of overall power.

I know someone who has ridden one and they say it is a significant improvement power-wise to the 21 stock. Said it was comparable to his full JMS race bike.

Of note- my local dealer has been a single line Yamaha dealer for 46 years and he was told by Yamaha Motors not to expect his YZ125's until spring (subject to change). Supply chain issue apparently.

I was told that the gain is approx. 4 hp compared to the 21 model ! The MJC racing team is already using these engines in their bikes !

Nice. I'm hoping the changes trickle to the 125x eventually. Have a 250x right now, love it. I think I'd eventually like a blue 125 woods bike but the current 125x just gives up too much power stock to justify over a 125xc...regardless, its awesome to see yamaha hopefully providing meaningful updates, even if they just stay on the mx bikes! Thanks for the insight.

I'm not saying you're full of sh!t but a 4hp power increase in a 35hp bike is almost a 9% (8.75%) increase in overall power. Thats some serious engineering if that's the case

I don't really see that it is as much engineering as would be the case if say, you were to see a 9% jump on an all-new model. Builders/teams have been working on getting incrementally more hp out of the old YZ125 powerplant for two decades, with many cycles of iteration, and there is a lexicon already built on the intake, exhaust, cylinder and piston requirements to get more out of them.

Yamaha mostly had to roll some of the common practices into the existing package.

if they did that the bike would have a very limited hop up window

It certainly should be a narrower hop-up window, which is a good thing (I would rephrase as higer baseline). Example: new YZ125 comes stock with V-force, which is one less bolt-on hop up nearly every YZ125 builder performs.

You see the same phenomenum in the case of the more-developed KTM 2ts, with relatively little to be gained performance-wise, as an example, on an aftermarket pipe.

someone said the pipe resembles an hgs, lets wait and see, if the french reports are true the yamaha is right on par with the austrian engines.

Lots of good points, on the ktm125, vforce adds no power and some pipes actually loose power.

However, a perfect example is the fmf shorty... we have one for our ktms and I don't think the design is any different from my 2002 rm125!!!

Lots of aftermarket products aren't improved for years IMO..... they just take the same old pipe design and move the brackets from year to year

Fantic is leading EMX125 and EMX250 on Yamaha based 2t's. They found the genie in the bottle or they are involved in this development almost certainly. I don't believe in coincidences.
