After that mtb get off I had yesterday I am looking for some good chest/back protection. I know technology has changed. Is there a good soft moto protector out there that will provide some decent impact protection for the torso? I used to wear an EVS Ballistic Jacket for moto but that's a bit much for me now.

Big fan of the RXR stuff. I've used their original design, now the Bullet 2.0, and there's a couple others they've introduced. After bouncing off the ground a couple times while wearing one, I don't moto without it on.

I'm a big believer in chest and elbo protection.... I bought a latest gen THOR chest protector and I really like it... not that there isn't better stuff out there but it works well for me. I dress for the crash! )

I got the CE rated Leatt 4.5 and it's been great. If you get one, just make sure it's CE rated and not a roost guard. If you get a Alpinestar neck brace it slides into and straps into place.

I Love the idea with the RXR. air bladder to disperse impact. Might be hot, but up north here I think that’s negligible buddy. And it provides some serious protection!

I just ordered an Alipnestars Sequence to wear under the jersey. Really, it's just to protect me from roost and taking a footpeg to the chest or spine, or something like that. I'll see how I like it and let you guys know.

Same RXR, super recommended it. As I had a big get off memorial weekend... still dealing with a broken shoulder, however ribs and everything inside is good!!

I’ve been wearing one for a few years and really like it. Tons of ventilation which it doesn’t look like it would have and the impact protection has been great too. I did just get their new A-6 in to try so I’ll see how it does this weekend.

I just noticed the Fly Dirt Barricade this morning. It looked like a decent option for moto and DH days on the bicycle.

I am looking for good elbow protection that doesn't slide down during a 2 hour hare scramble. Any suggestions? Fox has a undershirt with D3O shoulder and elbow protection but I am afraid it will be too hot.

The Leatt elbow guards I have now (3df I think) slide down and beat up my elbows when I hit the ground.

Thumps up for Fox BaseFrame D3o with separate roost/back protector.

Was in a bad crash week ago and ER cut my Fox undershirt into pieces and now I'm buggered as it seems not being available anymore in Europe(easily).
Definately want same shirt as it has worked for me perfectly. Comfortable and protectors stay where they are meant to be.

I'm riding moto and sweating anyway so hotness was not issue for me. It is quite meshy/breathable.

Just had a high side at the MMX sand track Saturday. I’m kinda beat up but could’ve been worse.
My Leatt chest protector did it’s job. I can also attest to my new Fly Formula helmet taking the edge off the hit to my head. I can’t imagine wearing any body armor for cross country/ downhill action in MTB. I’ve had my share of get off’s on my mountain bike but it just goes with the territory. I have always joked about riding around in the woods half naked (cycling shorts and jersey) with a bunch of grown men. We are pretty much exposed out there except for helmets.

Leatt has a wide range of 3DF foam body protectors. Firstly each of these body protectors offers CE level 2 impact protection on the chest as well as the back with the 3DF foam padding under a hard shell cover. CE Level 2 means that the impact forces are reduced up to 90%. As well they all offer CE level 1 impact protection for the Elbows and shoulders, CE level 1 reduces impact forces up to 40%. Lastly each of these items also has the 3DF kidney belt attached to the unit. Below we have listed the break down of the differences for each item:

Body Protector 4.5 Pro – new for 2021
This item offers only the impact protection we listed above with the Chest and back at CE level 2, Shoulders and Elbows at CE level 1 and the 3DF kidney belt. We previously offered the 4.5 body protector but the previous version did not include the kidney belt, this is new for the 2021 version. So it is possible that the retailer you contact may only have the previous version and not yet received their shipment of the new version.
Item weight approximately 4.63 lbs

Body Protector 5.5
Additional to above the 5.5 protector offers as well Flank/Rib cage panels for added coverage with 3DF impact padding and a hard shell covering. Chest padding coverage is the same surface area as the 4.5 Protector.
Item weight approximately 5.5lbs

Body Protector 6.5
You will find the most differences here with the 6.5 protector. Firstly the chest, back and flank padding are provided as a separate chest protector that can be worn independent of the mesh jersey. The mesh jersey provides the shoulder, elbow, and kidney belt and it is a separate piece. Another differences is that the shape of the 3DF padding cut outs on the 6.5 are a triangle shape, this offers a slightly better ventilation than the honeycomb cut outs on the 4.5 ad 5.5 protectors but offers the same impact rating. Also the surface area coverage on the chest is slightly wider on the 6.5. Lastly the size options for the 6.5 are offered as individual sizes as opposed to dual size options for the 4.5 and the 5.5. Item weight approximately 5.5 lbs

Astars has really good ventilation in general. The sx-1 knee guards flow a ton of air.

I am really liking the Alpinestars Bionic worn under the jersey. I have the Atlas chest pro it's most uncomfortable thing I have ever worn IMO.

I’m guessing he means the Bionic Chest Protector. It has removable shoulders too. The A-6 is replacing it though and has a different style back protector. I’ve ran the old version and liked it, then went to the sequence jacket in short sleeve the last few years, but just got the A-6 to try. They are all CE Level 1 all around and ventilate a ton. The sequence is all a dense soft armor where the Bionic and A-6 have a hard armored chest with flexible wings and the shoulder and back are a soft rubber setup.

Pretty sure that’s the same one I have. It’s worked well for me but I don’t think mine is the CE rated version. I think it’s just for roost but is about what the old Fox chest protectors were like.

The Troy Lee Designs BG5955 is super, super comfortable. With the separate panels, it fits like a glove and moves as you move. When I'm riding, I don't even notice it.

I still like my HRP Flak Jak the best. Roost protection and actually provides effective shoulder protection.. The shoulder protection is lacking in all current offerings...

How do I say this politely....
I absofuckinglutely HATE it. Grinning

I rode 3 short motos in the Sequence this weekend and just finally had to rip it off and call it a no-go. You know you have the wrong piece of equipment on, when you feel like you should quit riding altogether and take up basket weaving, rather than ride in that. It looks like I'm back to wearing an over-the jersey protector. The underwear thing just doesn't agree with me; too hot, feels bulky and constricting, and it makes my jersey fit weird.

I've tried CE-rated chest protectors and they were too hot and heavy for mine ... personal preference.
I'm a fan of the old school plastic chest protectors with shoulder protection. Current versions of these that look good to me are the Fly Revel, Troy Lee BG5955, Leatt 3.5 and Thor Guardian.
I use the Revel offroad and Troy lee and like them both.

Tell us how you really feel! Haha! Just wondering what size you had? I am between a medium and large t-shirt and got the medium sequence and it fit spot on. Makes me wonder if you’re was maybe too big or something? I didn’t even notice mine when I had it and I used it for 3 years. Just switched to the A6 to get something CE level 2 and really it’s pretty similar in the feel of wearing it and I run it under the jersey. It’s been really hot too and I’ve had no issues feeling like it’s blocking the air. Luckily there is a lot of options because nothing works for everyone!

I wear a large tee, XL long sleeves. Large TLD jerseys because they run big. I bought the L/XL Sequence. I'm sure it fits fine, and it isn't that uncomfortable when walking around. I just don't feel like I can ride with it on. It's probably more because I don't like the feel of an under-jersey protector more than any particular issue with the Sequence.
