The one from the +25A moto ended up with some broken ribs, (possible, can’t confirm) ruptured spleen and some fractured vertebrae in his lower back.

The one from the C class where his helmet flew off looked baddddd.

I heard the last one which cancelled the last few motos was a death on skyshot in +50. Track is way too dangerous for regular riders, the amount of helicopters and ambulance rides were unbelievable

how was the track prepped? When I did one last year on the pro track it was hardly ripped, resulted in no ruts and hard pack + dust, so they were watering DURING motos. Track is no more dangerous than anything else i've ridden, its just Fast. When there are no ruts, and its hard, and then they're throwing water down on top of it, you're creating an ice rink and asking for trouble at those speeds.

I’ve heard rumblings that it was a death too. Not confirmed. New England had another death at NHMX sunday, Pete Collins. I believe he was a member here? Great dude, he’ll be missed.

Sad how Unadilla went from the premier track on the planet, to just another wanna be sx track....

Men thinking they could build a better track than nature... lol

The prep was a huge part of it, I raced all 3 last year and this was even flatter, faster, dustier, and had weird kickers on most of the jumps. I’m glad I got to do it but if they were smart they would stop doing these races on the pro track and go back to U2. Hopefully the national won’t be like that or I’d put money down on more helicopters.

If that guy had a sweet WR500, i met him at Rewind in 2019 , and he was a cool guy for sure.

I raced there in 2019, minimal prep , due to expected rain, and it was fine, its no more dangerous than any track i have raced on anywhere here in the UK,

MX is a risky sport. I have been at races here where you get 3 Air Ambulances ... it happens, mainly because they call they out for injuries that in the old days, you would have been driven by road, or have taken yourself.

Damn! It hurts to hear about riders losing their lives doing what they love. I'm so old school, that very rarely was there any reports of deaths or broken backs/necks back in "the day". Tracks have changed so much...bikes have changed, and speeds have changed as well. Our sport has always been a dangerous one, but things seem so much more sketchy these days.

This is accurate, he had solid vitals when they left the track.

The other incidents were just racing incidents, I don't think you can blame the track for that. There was nobody watering during the motos. They would throw some water on as the previous class was clearing the track before the next gate drop

The kid that lost his helmet was a complete dumbass move, 100% on him and his crew.

All that being said, it's not a track for beginners and they aren't going to prep it to cater to the beginner riders. It's ride at your own risk situation and if you wanna ride over your head, that's on you.

Disclaimer…I have a 450 and love it. That said…

I feel like one issue relating to jump safety is that on two-strokes (particularly 125’s) jumps were self-limited to appropriate skills in a way. If your corner speed wasn’t up to the task, you weren’t sending the big jumps at most tracks. Now, a 250 D rider can loaf through a turn, then pull the trigger and send something that they have no business doing.

That's so terrible to hear, I want to get my one year old a PW50 eventually. But I really hate to hear stuff like this. I hope he likes trail riding when he grows up

U2 is generally pretty rutty and slows people down on the national weekend. Usually due to amount of rain we get it seems that weekend every year.

I dont think any of the obstacles that are on the circuit being run by am's on the pro track are sketchy other than the double down into bowl corner after gravity cavity. When its hard pack / dusty / rutless on a track of that size the speeds are going to be super high and this is the end result. If they prepped it proper and it got rutty lap times would increase drastically and the event wouldnt finish. Darned if you do darned if you dont. I havent been back since the original time they did it for this reason.

Was he Pete24 on here, from Massachusetts? That is fucking terrible. He always seemed like a good guy, very knowledgeable, great contributor, and always had nice bikes. RIP.

Sad reading posts like this . Let’s hope they prep it deep for nationals ! I like seeing the unadilla ruts and besides we haven’t had any rutted tracks this year where normally highpoint and thunder valley are . Whilst they made for good racing having a flatter track it’s good to have variety in a championship and fast tracks usually have more accidents as every body can go flat out where more technical riding is required for rough or rutted and let’s the cream rise to the top .

The internet and availability of such information has also changed.

I was shocked and devastated to get the call at roughly 5pm yesterday about Pete Collins (Pete24) death at NHMX. He was one of my oldest racing buddy's and just a long time great friend and sponsor of mine. I've known him since 1981. I've probably talked with 75 or so people since yesterday and we're all just devastated and numb. He was truly one of the great guys and a great person. I still can't believe that he's gone. I spoke with him on Sat about a ride day that was happening today and then again at 3pm yesterday to doublecheck if I could go. Little did I know that roughly after his 3:03pm text reply to me that he'd be dead an hr later. It's just not fair. You will NOT find a person with a bad word to say about him. RIP old friend..... :-( :-(

Better to make the jumps more forgiving. Screw those knee-deep rut o cross tracks. I raced the USGP at Unadilla in 1984 and they just turned us loose on a grassy track and let it form naturally. It was awesome back then and it still could be!
