I think the 16-18 models are some of the best looking bikes ever. I almost never like the way new models look with two exceptions 09...

Gotta agree with ya on that. Loved the stock look of 16 ktm’s.
And 16-18 frame was way better for any hobby rider than new stiffer 19-22 frame.

According to a dutch engine builder for one of the MXGP teams the current SXF250 factory bikes over there that run the 2023 spec engines are pushing over 3hp more than with the 2019- spec engines.
This must mean a significant difference in stock platform aswell.

I've been told that the newest cone valves will work - (2019 is the year I believe they received an update)

Thanks yep you’re correct. I was able to have someone confirm with someone inside WP the cone forks will work on the new gen bike, shock will not.

I know that feeling myself lol. 23’s most likely won’t be here until summer next year (unless they release a FE350). How much do you want to ride now, do you have another bike, and even if you got the new one next year will it be that much better then a 22? All things to consider. I’m a sucker for new bikes but sometimes the 2nd year revisions on a new gen bike are better then the 1st year. And you can look at it like the 22 is the most refined just like the 26 should be for the next gen.

First gen bikes have always had their issues with little things and parts availability.

Based on what I know about the 2023 models, I'm sticking with the current 2021 450, and I'll probably pick up a 2022 to get me through next racing year.

Somebody want a clean 2018 350?

My suspension, ECU, and maybe wheels may or may not fit on the new bike. I’ve been told so many things by guys who work there.

Plus I’m so comfortable on the current gen 450 , the 2023 will have to be one hell of an improvement for me to start over with new stuff.

Who knows, we will see for sure in December I guess…

- SX getting TBI/premix
- XC getting TBI/oil injection
- Both models getting an electronic power valve
- XC-W TBI coming in 2024

I think one is transfer port injection and the other is throttle body injection.

The original ktm 2 stroke injection bikes have aftermarket setup to move the injection from the transfer ports in the cylinder to the Reed cage or similar?

Yes. With TPI the fuel is injected into the transfer ports. This causes the crankcase to run much drier with regards to fuel (but the oil is still injected near the reeds). Also, premix alone cannot be used with TPI since the crankcase doesn’t see very much fuel.

TBI is just like the fuel injection on 4 strokes. Fuel injected in the throttle body before the reeds. This creates a crankcase full of fuel and oil just like on a carb bike. Also allows for premix just like with a carb.

Supposedly KTM went with TPI for emissions reasons. I guess they can time the fuel well enough that less ends up in the exhaust.

There are conversion kits to go from TPI to TBI. Guys who have tried it usually say TBI has stronger throttle response.

Hi Brent, beautiful looking pair of bikes. Unfortunately i'm in the UK so will struggle to buy your 350. I am interested in where you got the graphics made for it though. Are they custom? Currently my 17 is running OEM graphics/plastics (only 20hrs) and I'm finding it hard to get a set of graphics that are not to busy and maintain a clean look just as yours do. Are you also running flo plastics? Thanks!
