Do you guys ever think color has something to do with the decline of suzuki sales even before they stopped updating? I personally have always loved the way a Suzuki looks but have always pondered on if your general, non race watching consumer finds yellow was less enticing.
Nah, not while the consumers are snapping up every pumpkin-colored bike out there.
That's what sparked it for me honestly. I personally don't enjoy the color orange at all surely others do?

If I could buy a brand new one of these, I would!

4 speed box, super comfy, handles a dream, bulletproof reliability, solid build quality, what's not to like? The 2006 season was like a dream for me on one of these!

Kawasaki tried to add additional color options (red/white) to models in the 80s, under focus group guidance that green was not desirable to casuals, especially for kids.

I have to assume it was not bore out by any sales success, since they quickly abandoned it.

When I was a kid thumbing through dirt bike magazines, I absolutely loved that Kawi green.

I don’t think so. I had a yellow YZ250 and that thing was almost universally loved wherever I went with it. People coming up to me in the pits and always asking where I got the plastics and tank. It was just a UFO restyle kit and Clarke tank. Makes me want to make my new Yamaha yellow just thinking about that bike actually.

So no I don’t think it’s a color or looks thing. The new RMZ looks awesome. It just has a lot going against it compared to my YZ250F. It’s down on power top and mid, it’s the same weight but isn’t e start, the wireless mapping option isn’t as streamlined as the Yamaha, the suspension would require money to give me a decent feeling bike where as the YZF works pretty well for me out of the box only setting sag.

Before COVID when I could have gotten a 20 RMZ for $5800 though? Yeah I probably would have jumped on that deal.

I remember the red/white Kawasaki's too. Then of course we had the Yellow Yamahas in US whilst they were white in Europe- why??

And even a lot more recently Yamha did (1993 I think) white bikes with turquoise seats in USA & purple in Europe (Or visa versa) again, why??

When KTM first turned orange, I remember thinking that Orange would never catch on..

I love the look of Suzuki RMZ's. Especially those JGR rides. Hopefully they do come out with an all new model line up of MX bikes sooner than later.

If I'm paying 8-9k for something it will have what I want. No e start is the biggest reason I would not buy a Suzuki. Put one on it and yes I would own another one in a heartbeat.

IMO if Suzuki really wanted to play a blinder, they'd fit the E-start whilst still keeping the kick-start! Im done with E-start bike that don't have Kickers as a back up. (2019 YZ250F randomly popping starter solenoids really ruins your day)

I had two 2005s- I rode our local dealer's one in 2005 and I bought a fresh old stock 05 to race in 2006. Neither of them missed a beat! Never missed a gear- barely changed gear tbf.. On a lot of the local tracks, Id start in 2nd, shift to 3rd and not touch the gear pedal until the race was over! (On some of the faster tracks, 4th was needed occasionally) Never used 2nd!

These bikes weren't renowned for gearbox issues either, But everything wears out I guess..

Money/savings aside I wanted an RMZ 250. I've ridden several other 250f models that I was comfy on but the RMZ cockpit and chassis are close to perfect for me. I'd rather that as a starting point than a powerhouse that feels 'off' chassis wise. I'm powering up the motor for fun because I love the bike so much. Would another brand be a better buy? Maybe? not for me though.

There has to be one coming to the MX bikes soon right? The RMX450 has one, how hard is it to swap to the Z? I just bought an RM250, but if I was in the market for a new bike, I would probably buy an RMZ250, and definitely would if they have an e-start.

I’m sure 99% of us would be just as quick on a 10-15 year old bike. However If we’re all honest with ourselves for most of us half the fun of Mx is the new bikes and new gear and new aftermarket parts and we all want the newest best we can afford because were all posers deep down inside.

Honestly, just get rid of the old heavy metal chain guides etc that make it heavy. If you swap the exhaust to a titanium you already lose 4lbs. Place an electric start on it and then help the ecu for some top end on both bikes and you have an awesome machine.

Prior to the COVID bike-boom, the Suzuki rebate offer was up to $1500 on select models. So over a $2000 difference with the rebate and lower MSRP. That's prior to any dealer discount which have been at times, significant.
When I get in a first turn pile-up and everyone takes off and I am still kicking my bike over... at least I can shout out:
"BUT I SAVED 2,000 DOLLARS!!!!!"

Does anyone else look at the no e-start thing as a positive? I would pay more for a new 250f that had a kickstart over its e start counterpart, it could save like 15lbs!

The 2006 YZ450F weighed 230lbs, 2021 yz250f weighs 235

disclaimer:Own an e start bike currently, and I dont think that overall weight really matters that much. I would be delighted if my bike were suddently 15 lbs lighter though, would not mind starting it. I hardly ever crash, and most races I do are 5 laps maximum, so if you crash you are screwed anyways.

I guarantee everyone who got a new bike with e-start has reached down for the kickstarter that wasn't there. They can't hate kickstarters too much.

Its apples and oranges given the advent if EFI from 2006 vs today.

The debate about Kickstart and weight is strange also, given the bikes with Kickstart are also the heaviest.

A freind of mine who just got back into riding after about a 10 year layoff just bought a Suzuki because he 'liked the way they looked'. He hasn't kept up with the changes that have been made to bikes recently, so he went on looks alone. His last bike was a 2006 CRF 450.
When I told him that many of the other bikes had electric start, his reaction was: 'no way!'

True, harder to get back to the front and win potentially dozens of dollars at your local race.
