I don't think anybody would intentionally crash to cause a red flag.

However, if a rider crashes early, and is still on the track and can't get up right away, he may as well just stay on the track and complain of pain until the red flag comes out.

Yup ..i dont think so either, but it happened in F1 and its why Nelson Piquet Jr isnt in F1 any more.

And our National Supermoto series here has been plagued with people just laying down ' winded'.. can think of 2 or 3 instances where people have restarted after being the cause of the stoppage.

Irrespective of the 'bravery' aspect, you cant take a 2 lap rest and expect to go again.. fuck me , compared to the penalties handed out for course cutting , its just dumb.

I expect Star to protest, and i expect them to win , and if they dont, i expect the rules to be cleaned up.

A single rider incident, that brings a Red Flag , should remove them from the race .. end of,
if Star doesn't win the protest maybe Honda will?

This happened earlier in the year in the 450 class not sure what round it was in the first corner... I think almost everyone in the pile up lined up again.

I've been reading complaints on here for years how the AMA doesn't follow the rulebook and then when they do, people complain about it. Love this place!

Can you imagine if Cooper had gone down during the restart?

Mcadoo is an absolute beast and I respect the hell out of him for digging so deep. That being said I voted that no one should be allowed to line up after causing a red flag. Reason being if a rider doesn’t get the start they want or need what’s to stop them from falling over and lying there until the race is red flagged- then pop up miraculously healed for the restart?

that's exactly my point. he was too fucked up to get back on his bike and back in the race, so they threw the red flag to save him. no way he should have been let back in the race on the restart.

Star will win the protest? You expect them to make up a new rule because of a protest...AMA followed the rules that are in place...will this cause a rule change in the future? Possibly...but for now no rules were broken and all rules procedures were followed...and last I check the rules don’t care whether you like them or agree with them or not...

Stoopidest post all day.

That flag is there to protect the rider and those trying to help him. It is also there for EVERY OTHER RIDER IF THEY SUFFER A BAD CRASH. As a pro they all understand that. So yes he lines up.

Judging by Justin Cooper's podium comments, they don't ALL understand that.

That's just cause he has a soft button. What he needs to value is that they'da done the same for him as well.

He crashed, he was down a considerable time before the medics told him to stay down or whatever, that mistake was negated by the red. I applaud his effort, heart and determination of course. But from a fairness and consistency standpoint he made a huge error and suffered minimal points consequences. That is why I say no...

Oh gotcha, I read it as you thought he was faking it, I misunderstood your post. I understand what your saying. If the same thing happened after the 3rd lap, he would’ve started dead last, which does seem more fair

Right on, dood. Definitely didn't think he was faking. That was a gnarly crash.

We do some indoor flat track stuff and this situation happens all the time. However the rule is they have to start on the 2nd row.

I've never been more impressed with a riders determination, I think he clearly didn't break the rule, and I hope the kid wins the title.

However the rule does seem broken here.

Tough one... Sounds like no rules were broken. But it also seems like the rules should be reviewed. Maybe a start from pit lane approach would do it.

Absolutely not, while I respect the ride he put in after crashing it’s just not fair at all. If you look at it from a racers perspective (the guys he was actually racing) they basically let him hit the pause and restart button as if he was playing forza or something.

Absolutely 100% not fair. I love Mitch Payton and the PC squad, but that is some bs.

The more nefarious question this raises is, what happens if the teammate of a rider in the title chase, who gets a shit-start, were to "cause a red flag"?

I don't see this happening but it makes far more sense than a rider augering himself to achieve the same result.

now teammates are intentionally lawn darting themselves... who would actually make that call? And the better question, who would actually commit to that? Hey Swiz, we are going to need you drop the front wheel in the whoops and rag doll yourself. make sure it looks good so they throw the red flag. Come on dude.

I can’t believe people are whining about a gutsy ride. I haven’t seen a ride like that since AC popped his shoulder back in or CR22 after the chadapult. As fans that’s the stuff we root for an want to see. Guys laying it all on the line gutting out rides, not disqualifying him because it work out in his favor. Plus now the championship is close with 2 mains left. Who really wants to see JC win by 30 plus points.

Ya’ll are killing me

I haven't seen one person argue that Macadoo was not a complete badass to get up and race, or that his ride was one of the best we've seen based on his horrible crash. I don't think anyone would argue this...even the worst of the vitards would agree.

However, what people are objecting to is giving Mulligan's in racing. In other words, you shouldn't get a free gimee if you hit your ball in the lake. That's basically what happened tonight no matter how badass Macadoo was or how impressive his ride was.

This situation is anomaly. The only way you can really fix that from happening is getting rid of the restart at the gate if it happens with less than 3 laps. That would ruin 99% of the cases to fix the 1%. Restarts before 3 laps is better for the sport in my opinion and I don’t think that’s the better alternative. You can’t make up a rule to keep him out either.

That’s what happens with a red flag, medical teams do their best to help a potentially injured rider in a vulnerable spot. It’s a confusing and crazy concept to grasp, I know.

Your issue is you think they are trying to save his points, which is on nobody’s mind after seeing a crash like that.

How else would you have liked them to handle the situation?

I don't think people are hating the player; they're hating the game.

Mcadoo did nothing wrong in this situation; but could this be exploited a la Aaron Yates?

not confusing at all, wise guy. they did the right thing since he was too fucked up to continue. but since he could not continue while the race was going on during the first start, he should be out of the race on the restart.
