The answer should be no because a rider could fake it to work in his advantage by forcing a restart...taking no credit away from how badass...

You must have been watching to much soccer.... That will not happen in mx nore sx! Never, they are committed to race✊🏻

He gained and was gifted a huge advantage by being allowed to line back up with his peers who didn’t make a mistake, crash out and Go a lap down.

Let him restart but give him a 15 second to 1 lap down penalty

Then If he beast modes through the pack and wins y’all can say what a heroic ride.

This is really a nonissue.

This is at least the 12th SX season that the same rules for this have been in effect (probably more but 2010 was the one I checked).

Changing the rule would lead to more subjective questions than the current rule.

Let’s say that Rider A enters the second corner with Rider B right on him. Rider B makes a little bit of contact but somehow ends up getting his leg lodged in the wheel of Rider A.

They both fall in the middle of the track, but Rider B’s leg/knee is twisted up pretty badly so Rider A’s bike can’t be moved.

The race gets red flagged, and in the minimum 10 minute wait for a restart Rider A is able to get his rear wheel and chain replaced. Would/should he be allowed to restart? Not being able to move his bike is probably a big part of the decision to throw the red flag, so would he be eliminated along with Rider B?

I’d rather have the current rule, that apparently has never actually been used nefariously, than have the referee have to ‘go to replay’ and decide who should and shouldn’t be allowed to restart.

Line up. Yes. But if you are not in the lead lap you start a lap down. Or more than one lap down if you are more than one down.

Anytime there is a red flag and the race gets restarted (either complete restart or single file restart), whoever was in the lead gets screwed, and whoever is behind gets an unfair advantage (ie a gift). This has happened many times every season. It’s part of the sport. The bottom line is, to be the best you have to beat the best. Suck it up and follow the rules. If the AMA decides to alter the rules, then fine. But the overall point is, anytime there’s a res flag (or a caution flag in NASCAR), whoever is in the lead gets screwed and the people behind get an advantage. It is what it is. Just deal with it and stop whining.

Can people on here imagine their respect for Justin Cooper on the podium had come out and said the following instead of whining about the circumstances of the red flag - what if Cooper had said “first I’m glad Cameron is not seriously hurt and was able to get back into the race. I want to earn this title by beating the best out there, and that ride Cameron put in shows why he’s such a tough competitor. So I’m going to keep working hard to the end to earn this championship be being the best by beating the best”.

Or instead, he just whines about how letting McAdoo continue to race and how that was a distraction to him. Weak....

Cooper is still a you g guy, it’s probably not all his fault. He needs better coaching from An attitude perspective IMHO.

Suck it up buttercup.

If the rider can’t continue the race because he crashed his brains out and is injured, we shouldn’t stop and redo the race when he feels better. Anyone who says different hasn’t raced at a high level or is just plain dumb.

Even Crashadoos closest friends believe this statement. The AMA should be embarrassed.
