You know who I haven't heard about in a while that was an amateur phenom on 85's? Talon Hawkins…. Randy Hawkins kid, he was as hyped as Max Vohland and Evan Ferry just a year -year amd a half ago.
These kinds of threads get about 70% of posters mentioning their local fast kid nobody has really ever heard of but im pretty sure the OP was asking about nationally known badass amateurs like
Levi Kitchen and if you listen to the podcast matthes did with Ryan Huffman about 4-5 months ago, Ryan spent a good 5 mins talking about how he had been training and coaching Levi. He said Levi practically lived on the washougal property and something about Levi getting a later start in racing but that he (Ryan Huffamn) was so impressed with how naturally gifted, talented and incredible Levi is as a rider and he told Matthes to keep an eye out for Levi bec he has the "it" factor to be a top pro racer…… .The podcast was done before Lorettas just before he set the world on fire. Now his trajectory has hit a vertical status and I agree with Huffman that Levi is and will be somethjng extra special.

Just a few names that come to mind when talking about top name guys that it didnt really work out for.

This is my thought on most ppl succeeding though. It will be easier for someone that doesnt have money to succeed when times are tough. Nothing against Deegan and he could be that small percentage that really accels regardless of his parents money but I think people with less money have more of a desire or just something about them that helps them push more.

Example, where are MJ's kids? They didnt materialize in basketball. Same can be said for many top athlete's kids. Dont want to single out MJ there but its a good example. Even if they wanted to pursue another sport or passion they would have every opportunity at their disposal. Maybe they became successful at things outside of sports but we certainly never heard about it.

I do agree with what you are saying. However, isn't that part of the game? These kids are all in jeopardy of being out of the sport like that . It only takes one bad accident or freak accident unfortunately.

I was a big Ian Trettel fan and followed him a lot as an amateur, I was pretty interested in the amateur scene at that time because I was around the same age.

Oh definitely, it's part of the game. I know Austin and Nico had their struggles, I just think Ian's situation was different.

Yes. Millions. He was a factory rider for KTM and Suzuki for 8 years with 5 overall national wins and over 40 AMA podiums. Keep in mind, this doesn’t include his time on MotoConcepts, his Canadian career, or his current arenacross gig. Much of this occurred in the “good old days” prior to 2009 when even 250cc riders were making the big bucks, so yes, I’m confident that he has made at least $2,000,000 during his career.

Kitchen is definitely the fastest of them right now and the oldest at 20.

Hymas has tons of upside at 15/16. He's a little bit smoother than Levi and on the same level.

Hayes Edwards is off the radar but could be on the radar by the end of the year. Son of two time World Superbike Champion Colin Edwards. 14 and has been racing motocross for only 1 year. Already in the B class. Colin recently converted his Texas Tornado Boot Camp into a top notch motocross training facility.

Little bit of moto background on Colin. He and Jeff Dement were the two fastest 80 riders in Texas in the mid to late 80's. He has several top 10 finishes at Loretta's and narrowly missed a title one year. Click Here to view his finishes at Loretta's.

This past 6-8 months Hymas has taken a huge step forward. He went from being in Renyold's shadow and now he seems to be the top dog over there. Love to see it.

Anybody that would put Deegan ahead of Bennick needs to go look at some results. Dax has pretty much owned Haiden the last 6 or 7 years. Now that Dax had a growth spurt and has moved up to a 250 people seem to have forgot how fast he was on a mini, and yes they are both the same age.

I love Bennick!! but maybe YOU should look up some results because not only hasn’t he owned him but Haiden beat Dax straight up the last time they were in the same class at Loretta’s which was 2019. and not by some fluke or crash either. Deegan went 2-1-1 to Dax’s 1-2-2. In the other class that year deegan went 2-1-31. So while Dax did win the class it wasn’t straight up.

In 2017 Deegan beat Dax in both classes at Loretta’s as well. In 2015 deegan beat Dax in the only class they shared. In fact the 2x times Dax finished ahead of deegan in Loretta’s classes both times deegan took moto scores of 31 and 40. So by loretta classes which is all anyone cares about at the amateur level deegan owns Dax 4–3. Again love the kid and he looks great on that 250 and I think he’s got a big future!

2015 Dax shouldn't have been on a 50 as he was too big, just like now he's to big for a supermini. In the 65(7-9) Limited Dax got 8th and Haiden got 14th.

2016 Dax wins 65 (7-9) Limited, in the 65 7-11 he straight up got beat by six fast guys, none named Deegan. Matter of fact Haiden wasn't at Loretta's.

2017 Dax got 12th in the 65 (10-11) Limited, he won both the 1st and 2nd moto's then in the last moto his bike stopped running while leading on the last lap last corner giving him a 1,1, 34. OBTW, Cochran won that class. Haiden beat him in the 65 7-11, but then again Haiden always did well when the classes weren't limited.

2018 Dax wins 85 (9-11) Limited, Haiden 14th. Dax rides up in the 85 (9-12) and gets 3rd to two fast guys while Deegan plays it safe and rides the 65 for his second class. Even Cochran rode up and he was allot smaller then Haiden.

2019 Dax wins the 85 (10-12) Limited, Haiden was 9th. In the 85 (10-12) Haiden beat Dax as they went 1-2, again another class win for Haiden in a class that's not limited.

Again, I still believe Dax outshines Haiden any day of the week when they both are on equal equipment.

I was watching a Swap video a few months back and there was a kid who was on a KX85 flat out hauling the mail. Little chubby red headed kid, looks like a modern day RC at that age.....I think he is now wearing Canvas gear if that is a clue.....The kid is super fast and has style. I don't think he races super mini, I could be wrong but i have never seen him in any of Deegans videos racing.

Trey Canard was in that class as well and Zacko was only 1 years ahead of them

I’m not hating on Dax man I had him in my top 10! You just made it out like Dax has owned deegan and I’m saying that when they’ve shared classes at Loretta’s deegan has beaten Dax 4-3. And just like ur saying Dax had problems I’m saying that deegan had problems. 2 of the 3 classes he lost to Dax he took moto scores of 31 and 40.

If you look at my OP I had him 9th! Love the kid. Half the battle of being a motocross champion is having red hair and freckles.

It's waaaay too hard to predict what amateur is going to make it big in the Pros. Buckelew had to be the most dominating mini cycle rider ever and we all know how that story played out.

Yes. Millions. He was a factory rider for KTM and Suzuki for 8 years with 5 overall national wins and over 40 AMA podiums. Keep in mind, this doesn’t include his time on MotoConcepts, his Canadian career, or his current arenacross gig. Much of this occurred in the “good old days” prior to 2009 when even 250cc riders were making the big bucks, so yes, I’m confident that he has made at least $2,000,000 during his career.
And the rest. His 2005-07 KTM contract would have been close to $2m alone. + bonus + Astars + shark helmets + Red Bull + goggles + ++
He probably made $2m before his 20th birthday.

ferry's kid could just be getting warm man! Can't judge their whole life based on what they're doing in amatuers. Everyone thought alessi and millsapps were gonna be the dominaters to the likes of McGrath. They were very successful, but not GOATs. And they killed it on mini's for sure.

Dunge didn't kill it on Mini's.......and look at him....

I don’t think it’s possible that Mike Alessi hasn’t earned multiple millions of dollars in his racing career.
