why everyone keeps referring back to the 1st gen leatt brace that rested on the collar bones and spine is beyond me it’s not 2005 anymore! Both the Atlas and newer Leatts rest on the upper pectoral muscle and the shoulder blades, nothing will protect you absolutely. If you OJ a big jump combo not meant to be combined and fall from the sky at 60mph you are going to get messed up... but blame the neck brace it’s a killer!!!

I wear one even after first gen Leatt snapped my collar bone.

I am not sure what “restrictions” your guys are talking about as I have never once said “damn neck brace is stopping this, that or the other” I can look up the track, side to side, down not sure why you would need to do that, but one thing is for sure, the neck brace is not what is stopping me from being any better

'Bro if you like really go deep and look into it then like you can see people breaking their necks and paralizations and shit."

I'm not really going to take medical/physics advice from people who talk like that. I will keep wearing one.

So instead you'll take it from people who profit selling the devices? Or some dude at the track who says "Bro, I crashed so hard I woulda been f'd without my neck brace." How is that any better?

I really wish there was a way to know if these things really help or not.

The “study” above and its conclusions are flawed. And there are better ways to mitigate the risk of a spinal cord injury than the available neck braces.

Seeking new data to sway my choice to ride with a neck brace. Was starting to shop for new neck brace.. then this popped up in my feed.. every occurrence they discuss, I heard or seen video of the crashes. Man I'm on the fence again. I popped my collar bone with first gen of the Leatt landing on the side of my shoulder OTB so who know if it helped break it or not but my arm was tucked onto my side and not out like most people that break it. Their observations are noted, but again no one has come out with any new statistics if these clups of plastic help for 90% of the accidents. Your thoughts? Any new data sources? Pro's not wearing them feels so contradicting as well. Thanks!

If that is true, if they don’t believe in the technology then why would you put your spine at risk no matter the pay check?

Musquin must think neck braces work even though his brother was wearing one when he was injured.

It amazes me how many people judge current neck braces based on an experience in 2007.

Here are the results of the lab tests for Leatt braces.

The EMS Great Lakes study provides "real world" results that show that the neck brace is even more effective in a real life situation than even in the lab.

Please watch the Leatt video above! It explains it all extremely clearly.

Lots of people with and without braces paralyzed from breaking their backs. But who has broken their neck while wearing a neck brace and been parlyzed? Can’t think of anyone.

A debate like this will never be settled with certainty. There are way too many factors that go into every crash. I wear one because I have worked in a lot of ERs and the neck brace makes sense to me. These braces protect the most vulnerable area of the spine. I've heard a lot about wrecks with braces that caused collar bone injuries. I'll take a collar bone over my neck any day.

And for all we know, he nay not be alive today had he not had it on. No way to know one way or the other. Marvin wearing one says a lot about it iMO.

Good timing appreciate the brand for the information and reply to this post. Very telling lab results. Probably been said before, but I would take collarbone OVER broken neck/back any day

Forgot about him. What a horrible situation. I think I read an interview where he said it’s hard to tell if the brace helped but he was glad he had it on.

I remember when I was testing the prototype Forma boots in 2003/2004. They had a plastic hinge in the bootie, 99% of y'all never saw the bootie it cause it didn't make it to production. I shattered my tib/fib doc stopped counting at 40 pieces. The hinge in the bootie was implemented for safety and later found to be more harmful..

There are data collected post hoc that would never be published in a journal and there are data from controlled experiments that meets the standards of science.

A real study would randomly assign neck braces to people and see who got injured more. The data above is from who seeks medical assistance and can only tell you about the type of people who wear neck braces and seek medical attention at the track, not what neck braces do.
Yes, I believe some of the methods in that study are flawed, so the magnitude of pros/cons is tough to determine. But, I think that study has enough evidence to at least say that wearing a neck brace is generally safer than not wearing one.
