54 and ridden moto since 8. Broke my T8 and T9 Feb 21. Have not ridden yet, but will.
Raised in So Cal in the 70/80s. We didn't have practice days at the track. During the week we rode at Baseline or I could ride out my garage in the hills above La Verne.
I grew up in So Cal in the 80s. I have not lived there in 30 years. But, back then, open practice was same way. At the time, I never even thought about it. It was not uncommon to show up at Saddleback during the week and ride with people like Ward, Hannah, ... more »
In the NHL they have paid personnel, that only look for head contact, and notify coaches/staff to pull that player and evaluate. I agree with you. With the speeds and heights modern SX/MX is, it's time too start.
I'm very happy with the Bauer 20v set of tools I've gotten from harbor freight.
We use to make 2 trips a year there. Redneck heaven. It wasn't a place for city folk. Stop going as it got rougher and rougher.
Also sand mtn and mclarty. In terms of tracks, mill creek and McCarty are tops. Then Indian mound. Calhoun is closest but it's small, but draws a big crowd.
Mill Creek is also open. Calhoun is also I think. Talking rock also maybe. Was going to Indian mound but when got bike out had a flat. Too many other thibgs today, don't have time to fix it
Moved from So Cal almost 30 yrs ago. Live in the Southeast, a small town outside Chattanooga. Plenty of riding and other outdoor sports. Cost of living much cheaper, and safe. We are getting a lot of transplants from Cali. I do miss the Diversity that ... more »
Not MX but notable, when Penhall won the World Speedway title. LA. Sometime in the 80
I was also gonna mention Durhamtown. Not the views like the pics, and I would not say the accommodations are 2 star hotel level, but you can ride, hunt, fish, shoot, and there's a bar and restaurant.
Yes
You can't go wrong at Mclarty. Sand Mtn is one step below but good too. Sand Mtn actually has 2 tracks
It's about 3 hrs from Chattanooga
I live in Chattanooga. There is actually 2 tracks in Chattanooga. One (Chattanooga MX) use to be open all the time but now only occasionally. There is also Boyd's Speedway that has been putting a track in their infield this year and holding races. There ... more »
Elbows up. When he said "Villapoto has his elbows down" I said "when you can ride that fast you can do whatever you want"
Thank you. Brought a tear to my eye. Broke my back in February. (I'm recovering) Haven't been riding or too a track or even washed my bike yet.
Badass
My son and I did a similar trip from TN years ago. Same time of year. Day 1/395, day 2/Desert, day 3/milestone, day 4/x games downtown LA, day 5/Pala, day 6/Glen Helen REM, day 8/Pismo.
If you have never ridden in the wide open desert, I highly suggest it. Maybe Soggy Dry Lake. If you never ridden on the beach or dunes, again, highly suggest it. Pismo.
