As like many of you today I’m sitting at home bored, sore from the 2 stroke nationals yesterday at Glen Helen. I had some fun of course and went to look at results today because I wanted to see how much time I needed to shave off for next year to be competitive because I’m coming off a 2 year break. In my research I spent an hour laughing about my finding, the Top 3 250 C riders, would have won 250 Expert, and almost Top 20’d open PRO.
us Southern CA dudes are pretty used to this sort of thing happening because it’s every weekend and whatever, I’m old now and just going for fun and to get out of my house. But if you have any aspirations of being any more than a local C rider here, you have to reach around Top 20 local pro speed haha.
That is bad! Cherry picking has been around forever and I see it’s not getting any better. At 64 I’m done racing but if I was I’d much rather finish 20th in the Pro class than pick up cheap plastic winning the Novice race.
Sadly, we're a dying breed.
A bullshit accolade and something to post on the internet to show you're "a winner", however hollow the victory, is what it's all about.
I'm 38 and feel like the absolute stereotype of a grumpy old man just typing that, but I stand by it 😂
What moto were they compared to pros?
Example: were they moto 3 and pros were 14
That info is on the doc's he posted. C class was race 7, A class was class 12.
The Shop
Close! Backwards. 250 A race 7, 250 C race 12. They squeezed the pros in at specific times for live steaming so they were race 4* and 11*.
so to make it crazier, 250 C with these fast times posted, hit the track for the first time after BOTH Open pro motos, and 2.5 hours after 250A
Get it all the time woth loretta lynn qualifiers. Look at every qualifier and Top 6 in c class would be top 10 in A class. Last year at my qualifiers top 6 in 250 C would have finished 2nd - 7th in 250A. Happens every year.
So where does B class fall? Is it also faster than A?
Stuff like this really annoys me. Happens all over the world but not quite at that level, that's just completely insane.
I lined up in novice for an enduro race a few years ago and there were multiple guys that were sponsored and I even heard the organiser whilst laughing say to one of them why are you in novice you were in expert last year. Yet they didn't move them, I remember being so disheartened with racing I didn't line up for another 4 years because I figured what's the point.
It's really bad for the sport that adults who never got to ride as kids and want to start racing don't have a class to ride in because loads of really fast guys are sitting in novice to get a plastic trophy and I guess brag that they win races and leave out which class it's in.
Adding an edit to the bottom. I just checked the results from the last race I did, the winner of C class would have actually won B class. And since it's an enduro everyone is on the same track as the same time. What the hell is these people's problem!
Quit being a pussy lol
We should all be able to see who raced so we can celebrate the soft emotions of the top 3. Nice work guys.
Just clicked the kids name. Worst finish was a 4th in 250 Novice in 2021 at 2Stroke Nationals. Raced 250 Novice and Open Novice 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and now 2024.
Kid that got third is a family friends kid and started racing 250Int and Open Int at REM in February.
The kid that won 250 Novice would have been around 8-9th fastest in 250Int/B based on laptimes
I heard after they collected their trophies they went surfing👌
As with anything competitive, people will always take advantage if there is no enforcement/rules.
The problem lies with the AMA. In this case, unlike bowling, moto racing IS nam. There are no rules effectively as far as upgrading is concerned.
As I came up through the ranks, it took forever to win a C Class race, won a few but not all, then moved to B the following year, expecting to be at the back.. straight away I was up front, the B class was easier than the C..
Another year later I was in A class and it was also wasn’t as deep as the C class.
I wanted to be in the A class as soon as possible, I will never understand the desire to stay down in the C Class.
Your progression sounds exactly like mine, 2005 raced C class with 1 overall win, moved to B in 2006 and I think I won somewhere around 12 overalls that year and moved to A in 2007. I pretty much raced local at the same couple of track those years as well
I wonder if it's because of contingency payouts. The manufacturers seem to pay the same contingency no matter what class you're in. If they changed it so that you could only earn contingency in the A class, I bet some people would move up. It would also give riders more incentive to progress and move up the ranks.
Is that Sean Collier's kid?
So he races intermediate on the rem track but drops back down to novice for the national?
Pit Row
The fragile egos of Mx racing 👍….
I see a lot of people that race Masters in socal vetmx series in the intermediate classes. It's pretty standard around here you drop down 2 classes for the big events.
I know this is what a lot of people do it's been going on for years but it's still not right by your logic if my son races pro at Swap Moto he can drop down to novice at the world two stroke championship that's a no LOL
I know that's why a lot of people sandbag locally for me at least.
Any one who posts lap times from a race they are not in and compare it to other classes they are not racing to see how much faster they need to go, and when they time themselves at a different day on the track is the mark of a true newb D class rider. You cant make a comparison unless you were in that exact moto that you are posting laps time from. Line up behind the gate and you will find out how much faster you need to go.
And that's why LL is a Joke the support classes are faster than the PRO/EXPERT classes.

Anyone?
Bueller?
Anyone?
Yep novice LOL!
Sure is!
Not the first time that's happened.
Some kid showed up around 2016 to race a CMC event at Glen Helen. Signed up for 450 Novice with us. First moto he won but I didn't see him because I was told we were second gate(which was wrong). Second moto I got the holeshot and held the kid off for about half a lap until he dropped the rest of us and I finished a very distant second. He was faster than the intermediates and running pro lap times. Turns out he was a pro from Argentina.
Just recently moved up to Intermediate at REM. I'm guessing he was signed up for the 2 Stroke Nationals before moving up at REM though.
Seems like this kid's been doing it for a while nobody cares they just want his entry fee until the parents racing that class speak up nothing will happen🤷♂️
