Eli Tomac “Race of my Career”

He corrected himself on IG and said “One of the best races”. If he feels he rode his absolute best in that race, Ken Roczen is going to walk all over him and take this championship with his eyes closed. I’m a hardcore Tomac fan and want him to win, but he’s got nothing for Roczen right now.

Long way to go. Tomac looked genuinely stoked. Cool to see.

with the start Tomac got , i expected him to check out
was very surprised to see Roczen follow and later pass him and he was just faster
they both looked a level above the rest

I haven't seen anything post-race and Id like to watch the race again, but it seemed like Eli was snoozing through that main event.

When I saw he holeshot, I thought he'd run away with it.
Then he rather feebly slid out.
Then he caught AC & KR, I thought to myself, shit, Eli is gonna win this. Then when KR went by AC & Eli blew straight past, I truly thought KR was in trouble. Then when Kenny messed up and gifted Eli the lead, for the third time I thought, well that's that, Eli is gonna rip a lead and win, but seeing KR go straight by him and pull a 2 second lead, I was gobsmacked! Im sure Eli was having an off-night.

And then to hear Eli thinks it was "one of the best races of my career" ?! Mind blown..

I think you’re reading too much into it. I was a bit surprised that he wasn’t more pissed that he had the lead twice but didn’t win it, but I think his comments on the podium were more that he just enjoyed the battle and one of the more enjoyable races of his career, which I thought was cool. Kenny was just a bit better on the night, I think Eli was cool with that, 2nd is fine

I thought it was a great post race interview. I love to see these guys looking like they are still having fun, I can't even imagine how much of a grind it can get to be.

Lets stay real here. Tomac looks scarier with every round. Dont forget also tomac had a little bubble in the beginning. They are so close speedwise anyone could win.

Him and roczen race each other so clean it’s fun to watch. Eli gifted 1st back to roczen taking the outside line into the rhythm.

What a peculiar line choice.

What a peculiar line choice.
It was. Just a theory but roczen had enough time after his mistake to still stay in front of Eli but as ken said he let him by to avoid any possible penalty. I don’t think Eli ‘let him by’ but I think he didn’t put up a huge fight either cause he recognized ken could have stayed in the lead. I think these guys have ultimate respect for each other.

I’m the biggest tomac fan there is. Also not a fan of Kenny. But dam that was some good racing! Kenny was just better. The early parts of the race where they were all three getting after it was so cool. One of the best races in a long time

I think Eli did great there. Sometimes in the past when he has gotten good starts like that he has faded. Last night he was strong all the way through a physically demanding course. I thought Ken might fade a little toward the end as he has shown a tendency to do sometimes but he did not. It was very fun to watch the 3 battling so closely in the beginning stages and to see it come down to the end of the last lap. Great race.

Kenny has been on fire this series and his points lead should be larger. ET3 has already used his throw away rounds and should be stoked to only be down 9 points. Best Guess is Eli was more than happy to finish 2nd after going down while leading the race

I just liked seeing Tomac show some genuine unguarded emotion. He's usually such a robot.

Great racing!

One of the best races as in he had the most fun. I don't think he said it was one of the best races riding wise

Win or lose, a fierce battle against friends where there is respect and everyone is having fun is a good time.

Holy shit guys... It was quite blaringly obvious that what he said was not exactly what he meant. He was fumbling to find the right words.

He had fun. The end.

Exactly. Dude was having a blast duking it out with Kenny, and grinning ear to ear on the podium -- something you normally see from Eli.

I don’t see Tomac as a robot he’s just all business when he’s at work, doesn’t shout about it just there to get the job done. Him and Roczen have had some great battles over the years and look like more still to come.

Last night was the first night where he's looked aggressive this season. He's obviously made a few changes on the bike and his confidence is higher. I think his stoke was partly the battle but partly comfort knowing he's riding well.

Roczen and Tomac have both said in the past they they enjoy racing each other because they race hard but clean. Although they both want to and expect themselves to win, they have and show respect for each other and Im sure they like being able to race hard without having to worry about the other taking them out.

Don't forget that those two took a private jet to Houston together. Probably enjoying the hell out of life right now. I'm glad for Eli and I'm glad for Kenny.

It was fun to watch, and it sounds like they had a blast out there. Here’s hoping we get an entire series like this.

I think this race amped Tomac up for these next 2 rounds in Indy. I think we’re going to see some exciting rides coming up.

This race they finished where I think they belong. On a different zip code from the rest.

Looks to me like tomac is racing himselft into shape as some guys do after so many successful years. hes not charging hard at the ends of mains like in past. even his win i thought he looked so-so. I think you need to ride with other pros during the week at least before the season starts. I think hes happy as hes at 90% and the other guys are at 100%

Would agree. Could be wrong but maybe Eli was thinking he seen KR at his best and kept him honest. Either way the 2 race there butts off. Great to watch as a fan!

I was thrown off when he said that live.

Getting the impression that he’s content with cruising this year and not pushing too hard. collect his checks and get ready for retirement without getting hurt. Just the vibe I’m getting.

I don't know whether he is cruising or not, but "race of my career" was clearly just enjoyment of the moment and not intended as a detailed retrospective. And I appreciate that.
