I'm 25 years old. Havent rode in 2 years. Just got my shoulder repaired so I should be able to ride again soon. I'm not a complete spode, but I'm also not doing 30 second Instagram clips of me putting my gear on with mumble rap.
I've had 125s, 250Fs, 250 two strokes, and 450s. Though I've never had a RMZ250. Price is cheap, its has two wheels and a motor, and I'm definitely not in the market for the fastest bike (weak shoulder lol). I want all you RMZ lovers and RMZ haters to chime in with pros and cons, what you like/hate. I just want something to ride that feels nice. Emphasis on FEELS NICE.

Also, I like that it has said kickstarter. I've had plenty of electric starts and have had to buy lots of batteries. Tired of it

Get the forks set up by a good tuner (is Factory Connection close to you?), for your weight and speed...tell them you want a plush feel due to your shoulder issues. Best to have them do the shock too.

Biggest con that has been reported is insanely heavy-rate stock springs on forks, especially for the average 250F rider. Easy fix though.

Although I poke fun at RMZ's they are my favorite bikes. We rode yellow for years and switched recently to have something different.
Great bikes, super reliable and easy to ride.
I have a small mess of leftover rmz 250 parts for sale too😉

Enjoy it, just be ready for the crap talkers. Lol

I put some laps in on an 2018 last night and it was a blast. I’ve got shoulder issues also and the rmz didn’t have that 450yank. Easy controlled power and so much fun. Buy it. They are a bargain.

Regarding kick starter. This one popped off on first kick. Hot or cold.

2018 250 is the previous gen model. The newer one makes a respectable amount more power.

I uh, so I had a 2007 and I really really liked it, sold it to a friend when I was done and he rode it for almost a decade, super reliable for us young C class guys back in the day.

Next bike was a YZ250 2 stroke that I rode basically up to this day.

I borrowed a 2017 RMZ 250 that had suspension work and lots of motor mods, couldnt help but think it handled super weird. Feels like there is so much weight on the front wheel on these yellow bikes, the front tire is always planted super hard. Feels really weird after jumping off the 2 stroke, I think I would have picked up another yellow bike by now if I hadnt been so scared off by the interesting handling traits.

Resale value of the bike would be a major con. Parts availability would be something that i would keep my eye on. Other than that....the bike is good and very reliable.

Buy it! Just put the correct springs for you weight and the suspension is good. We have a 19' 250 and 450 love them.
450 needs a little more help in the suspension department, but the 250 is good.

Just got a 2020 RMZ250 myself. 38 yrs old/Vet rider. Like others have said, get the suspension set up w proper springs and valving for you (Race Tech Gold Valves kit help alot) Throw on your fav bars, grips, etc.....ride! Turns on a dime and although the bike flattens out on top, plenty of motor still. Fun bike. Biggest draw back I have seen so far is aftermarket goodies....not a ton out there.

Superbly EASY bike to have fun on. It picks up "gear to gear" short-shifts or bobbles BETTER than some of the other 250Fs (It doesn't suffer from 'Pipey 125 Shifting Stndrome'). The suspension can be a little stiff for lighter/slower riders; but, is otherwise EXCELLENT (I love it).

Ergonamics are excellent. It turns loke a Zook...AMAZING.

It's an EXCELLENT motorcycle that's super inexpensive to own. PERIOD.

If and when you want it to go faster or quicker? A New Map or a Vortex from Twisted Development, A good pipe and some fuel are a "Good Start" down that path.

You can add 3 stiffer clutch springs and firm the clutch up a little bit for longer clutch life for very little expense.

I'd put my favorite pipe on it and run T4 in it and be VERY happy.

Hit up full throttle power sports in nh. I bought a rmz 450 for them and they were willing to deal really well on it.

Whichever is valved and sprung right for the rider. Out of the crate, the Yamaha settings are probably a lot closer to the target for most (but not all) 250F riders.

Just my opinion, if you are looking to just have fun and are not super particular then an RMZ is fine. Plus you can probably get one for a decent price. For me the pro/con list is as follows:

Pros:
Price, looks, cornering sharpness

Cons:
Resale, suspension needs $ for most ppl, down on power up top, slight lack of aftermarket options

As far as your shoulder, that really has no relevance. You are on a dirtbike, so the risks are the same and the power difference between 250Fs will do nothing to your shoulder. That being said, there are other brands that offer better suspension and motor, stock. If you willingly choose to still go Suzuki, then that is fine. Nothing wrong with it. But there are just better bike packages available. I don't know why there are always so many posts in regards to Suzukis where people need justification from others. They are good bikes, but most people think there are better options out there. But if that doesn't matter to you then buy the Suzuki, if that is what you like/want.

I feel like lots of people are buying new bikes for 9500 and selling for say 7000 after 2 years or what ever. I bought my 18 rmz 450 for 5000. I could ride it for 2 years and that would allow me to sell it for 2500 bucks. I bet it would fly out of the garage for that price. I would loose the same amount of money somebody did on a Yamaha or whatever. But yes trying to get more out of it like the 5000 range still would be tough. Plus you could take that extra 5000 cash you did not spend and invest it and make money on the bike. I know most people don't do that but you could.

Fucking awesome bikes. I wanted one again but the price was basically the same as every other Japanese bike due to Covid.

They are bulletproof. OEM parts are fairly priced, bit more than other Japanese bikes, but very reasonable and plentiful. And they look incredible.

A modern stock 250f will perform as well as >95% of the motocross community needs it to!

Suzuki makes a solid motorcycle. People like to jump on board to bash them because apparently it's the cool thing to do. They may not have advanced much recently, like their competitors, but those things handle like a dream!

I loved my 13 RMZ250. Once I got the forks done by race tech, they were amazing. I loved it, very comfortable and like others have said, they’re pretty durable
