I believe I've smoked my steering head bearings. I see there are alternatives to the OEM such as All balls and Pivot works which are much cheaper than OEM which don't seem that good to begin with. Has anyone used these others brands and recommend them?

Also, if I decide to do a top end in the near future, what piston do others recommend?

I greased mine when I first got the bike, got about 40 hrs on it now, just checked brg. Cause of people on here posting about them! Mine still looks new
Same here. IMO, the trick is to grease them with good waterproof grease before the first ride. I’ve done this on every bike I’ve ever owned, and have never replaced a bearing in 30 years of motocross.

I have a 21 kx250 and greased them after the first ride, after only 10 hours the steeering was starting to get notchy. Tore into it yesterday and the upper bearing had been a little contaminated/rusty the lower wasn’t bad. I was able to clean up the bearing and it feels good as new now. Used more grease around the upper seal this time maybe that will help

That sounds like a quantity & quality of grease issue. Which grease do you use?

For what it’s worth, I’ve had great luck with Mobile One Synthetic Grease. I have a 1lb tub that has lasted me for years. Good stuff!

I did my linkage bearings the other day. I use Bel Ray waterproof grease, which has great performance and lasts really well, even in winter riding/washing

I’ve been using maxima. In my opinion it seems like the setup doesn’t seal very well considering others are having the same issues. A buddy I know has put 75-100 hours on 3 newer ktms without ever even taking apart the steering assembly and never had any problems

Just noticed my FMF 4.1 muffler was loose and was thinking I cracked the sub frame. Turns out the rivets on the muffler mount are loose. Anyone ever had this happen? I haven't re-packed it but it only has around 25 hours on it.

Has FMF updated their muffler with rubber mounts? The bike was engineered to have a rubber mounted muffler. If it is solid mounted, something’s got to give, either the muffler or the subframe. That’s why PC updated theirs. I don’t know whether or not FMF did.

I have had an FMF on my bike (2020 450) for 14 months now, no issues.

Is it rubber mounted now? I’m just curious if they updated it like PC did, since the solid mounted mufflers have caused problems for many.

Anyone know if rear sprockets from the 2017 will fit on the 19+ hub? Looked like the part number was the same on the OEM parts diagram...

I'm going to call FMF and see what they say, but for now I threw on the stock muffler. Forgot how quiet it is, makes the bike deceivingly fast.
I'm wondering if it is because the tire hits the pipe, mine does have tire marks and dings in the side from tire contact, as well as a dent where to side plate touches the exhaust.

The muffler mount will break with the FMF solid mounted muffler. They definitely break.

My buddy had a similar issue with his yz450f ti 4.1 slip on, pretty sure he sent it back to fmf and they repaired/replaced

Fixed. Just looked up the 21 KX450, and the lower roller went back to the 2 bearing roller.

Looks like I'm out of luck, they have a 1 year warranty, and recommended I repack the exhaust every 20 hours or the heat can loosen the rivets. I think that's crazy since I have had fmf systems in the past be fine after years of use and not repacking. This was my first time buying the non Ti system, I figured I'd buy the one that would be more durable this time but I guess that isn't the case. For $400+ I was hoping to get a bit more use out of it. Repacking every 20 hours is out of the question for me, I ain't got time for that. Guess stock bazooka for now it is.

You can probably drill out the rivets and put in new ones pretty cheap.

I could, and I probably will eventually when I get bored enough, but by the time I buy a repack kit, riveter and the time it would take me to repack and fix it every 20 hours vs putting the stock silencer back on is hard for me to justify for the minimal performance gains. Also, Since there is so much play in the mount I have a feeling mine was probably never lined up right from the get go causing the tire contact. The stock silencer is a mile away from my tire while the fmf is definitely rubbing.

It takes like 20 minutes to repack a silencer what’s the big deal? you need to repack the stock one eventually too
