Santa grabbed the boys their first scoot!

Moto Dads,
Super pumped. On a whim, I picked up an 06 PW for my 4 and 6 year old sons. maintained impeccably by my long time Moto/bmx bud while his son was growing up. Easiest purchase ever. Mom supports it too.

My question is What is the best strategy to tell the boys “this is a sharing gift”? And they will have to take turns.

To give a little background: they have had balance bikes since 2. Never needed training wheels. Petal bikes now.
2nd kid is a psychopath and fears nothing and no one. 🤦‍♂️

Your thoughts are appreciated

I'll be honest...one bike with two boys is a recipe for resentment and some long term problems. Whatever you gotta do...get both boys a ride. Take out a loan on your vehicle, house, sell the wife's wedding ring, prostitute yourself, whatever it takes...but don't pit these two brothers against each other. They should be best friends...not rivals. I'm just knowing.

We got a PW50 for my 4-YO son years ago. His big sister, who was 8 at the time, never wanted a motorcycle because she thought they were all YZ250-sized. Of course, when she saw the PW, it was all over. The son was cool about letting his sister ride his bike, but the writing was on the wall. It took all of about one year and it was time for a TT-R110 for the girl.
The moral is, you can let two riders share, but it's far more fun for each to have his own.

If they are old enough to ride, they are old enough to have a sit down discussion with you that you can only afford one bike right now and they have to learn to share the time equally. I’m not saying they will like the answer, but this is a teachable moment in their lives.

A bike is a privilege, not a right, and neither is entitled to more time on it than the either. Keep it simple and stay consistent with them.

I started riding when I was almost 5 and I shared a bike with my sister. I don't see the problem with it. We had a bike, my neighbor then got a bike, then another neighbor. We all rode together and shared and traded off. They are 4 and 6. If they were 8 and 10 I might think different. When we were 8 and 10 my sister and I both had bikes we wanted, worked for, did our chores for ect. But our situation may be different because we had a huge yard and lots of land to ride on. We never had to load the bike up and take it anywhere.
When I was racing 80's my sister got her drivers license and used to drive me to the track. 2 kids in a CJ jeep with and RM 80 sticking out the back had to be a hell of site but we sure had fun.
I was riding at my house a couple years ago and my sister showed up and said take me for a ride. We did some small jumps with her hanging on the back. Hell it was just as fun then as it was before.
My vote is let them be kids and put it under the tree from Santa to the family. Its way better to share 1 bike than have no bike at all.

What he said..... Go sell a lung, whatever it takes. I admire your Santa skills, but you're gonna have some rough times ahead as things are now. Besides, if they start having troubles over bike sharing, it's gonna put Mom in a bad fucking mood eventually, ruining all the future fun. Having 2 kids pissed, plus Momma pissed over the whole deal....and it WILL happen, the best bet for sanity is to FIND a way to make another bike show up in Santa's hot rod.

I got one ttr for my girls when my oldest was 3 and my youngest was one and a half. The youngest has never been all that interested until last year at 4. I let them share for a while until the youngest was definitely in to it. Then a second bike showed up.

If one bike’s all you got in you, don’t sweat it. They’ll share. They’re siblings. Most of these guys aren’t wrong, there’s definitely going to be some fights. But I don’t think it’s the silliest thing to babystep in to it until they both decide it’s what they want to do.

Put that thing under the tree and tell your boys they’re about to have a shit ton of fun.

Of course 2 would be better, but I think it's a good lesson in sharing and respect for each other. Older will upgrade soon anyways.

Nope, I did it with my kids and it caused no problems. They got to know that they don't get all they want on demand. It's a good lesson to learn. Besides, one might decide he doesn't want to ride in 2 months.

My brother was 4 and I was 6 when we got our first motorbike. It was a pw80. I can't remember how we decided who got to ride and when but we shared that bike until I got an XR80. I don't think there were any fights, it's just the way it was.

We started with 4 boys on a 78’ km100...no idea how we made it work, but we did for a while. Probably because the other 3 were running around picking the bike and brother riding off the ground every 10 seconds. That thing was a tank!

We got our first bike at 10 and all 3 of us shared it was fine then another came a couple years down the road. If it's what you've got then it's what you've got.

I also grew up sharing a bike, me and my sister had a ty80 to share between us, caused no problems. If you can’t share with your brother or sister the bike isn’t the problem. Just give it to them and watch their faces light up, have a great Christmas with the kids 👍🏼

Plus to this day I’d still happily let my sister race my bike and the same the other way round if one of us isn’t in a position to own one, teaches kids a valuable lesson that things like bikes have to be worked for and appreciated.

I hope I didn't come off as an insensitive dick in my previous post. I understand budgets and such. I was speaking from personal experience. My little brother and I were inseparable...might as well have been Siamese twins. We did everything together...until I got a '68 Suzuki 50. I was gone. I only came home for gas. He never resented the bike but it crushed him that I wasn't there with him. At 12 and 10 we started hauling hay and made enough money to buy identical KS125's. We were again inseparable. Even now, I can remember my 6 year old brother crying as I rode off discovering the world.

While one bike will certainly bring joy to your boys...if they are out there riding together...the memories and bond created are...well...priceless.
