If By redesign you mean graphics and a seat cover, then this could happen.

Nope, reverse engine will stay. It's got an advantage in the 250 and they'll continue to to fine tune for the 450.

Yamaha already makes those if that’s what you’re after.

Boy the 21 must be great if we're already wondering about the 22.

If they go to finger followers the star bikes are actually going to get even that much faster.

My buddy has them on his son's 2 KTM65's. Run good.. plastic float bowls leak. Have to turn the gas off between every moto.

I'll keep an eye on that, thanks!

The fact that my son can now start it after laying it down in 1-2 kicks was worth the price alone. He's had multiple races since starting this summer waiting for a lap or more for a flagger to help him kick it over with the stock carb. I't runs much smoother and stronger too as a bonus.

I really hope they scrap the backwards engine/air box/gas tank design - been waiting for years.

I was rewatching the full 09 and 10 seasons outdoors and it’s so obvious the 09 blew the 10 away.

Josh grant was a front runner on the 09 and the bike looked so planted and composed. On the 10 he was off pace and when he was pushing was making mistakes everywhere on it. Stewart raced a round or 2 in 10 and looked awful on it as well.

I can only imagine where they would be if they have continued to develop the 09 generation chassis and engine as that engine and chassis was really good on the 250s and 450.

Also rewatching those races has kind of reminded me how much heavier bikes have gotten since that generation.

250fs back then weighed about what 250 2 strokes made. They’ve gained like 15-20lbs since that generation with efi, e start, wiring, map switches all that.

So noticeable when you ride the older bikes too...
I’ve had the newer gen bikes but prefer the older , lighter carb models

I disagree with this whole post. The reverse engine is a strength for Yamaha now, it just took some time and heavy development work. That development panned out because of how off the 2010 450 was front the drop. It's part of the process. Manufacturers don't always hit home runs on redesigns (Think 2013 CRF450 or 2018 RMZ450). 250f's have not gained 20 pounds in the last 10 years.

Agreed. I loved my 06, hated 10-17, love my 18. I love the air box design also. Different strokes for different folks

That is a huge deal for a kid at that age! Man, good luck to you if your kid is going to be racing serious for any amount of time on these 65's. They are a double edge sword. You basically have to have the kid on this bike to be competitive in the class (it's 10 lbs lighter than the YZ65) but they have some serious durability issues and some stuff that just really makes you scratch your head. My buddy has 2 of them (been through 3 or 4 more previously) and yesterday we discovered play in the crank on both bikes, grabbing the magneto rotor and moving it up and down. The one bike just had new main bearing put in and the other only has like 45 hrs. Apparently, it is a common issue for the crank journals to wear and lose their press fit to the inner race of the main bearing. What a pain! Oh, and a new OEM crank is over $400 !

Long story short, put in a new Pro-X crank at 98hrs and the bike wouldn't run. Quickly chased it back to the crank being keyed 30 +/- degrees off. Wiseco/Pro-x didn't believe me at first so I sent the crank in and their engineers confirmed 32 degrees off. They agreed to buy and send me a new OEM for my troubles(Props to Wiseco for that!) and I got it and changed it out last week at now 135hrs on the OEM crank and the flywheel journal was - .00125". Wanted to rebuild it for a spare but just threw it in the trash. Didn't even need to use my case splitter...

I believe the STIC only is for the PWK carb and the stock 65 carb is an antiquated Mikuni TM

It makes lots of power but to me my 2019 has too much weight up front. Plus the chassis could be balanced better/have better bump absorption like the Kawi.
