Ive adjusted the powervalve, jetted the bike, changed the gearing and put a fly wheel weight on it. The bike also has a pro circuit system on it and factory connection revavlve for the previous owner. The previous owner weighed a little less than me, so I put in the proper springs for my weight and set the sag.
My 250sx feels like a power house lol. It feels like it doesnt give up much to my 19 kx450 lol. I will say that the tank/shrouds are much wider on my 250sx compared to the kx450. I will admit that I never spent much time on 2 strokes over my 15 years of ridding. When i got into racing 15 years ago, it was on a yz250f. Id considered myself a decent A/B vet rider, so i honestly feel like a dork when i try to ride my 250sx on a mx track lol.

I see you live close to me?
I have a 2017 TC250 and Seth has a 2017 250SX fwiw.
This is my TC250 a bit ago. I've since added the full REP linkage along with factory wheelset and a bunch of bling shit. Next up will be factory triples & A-kit suspension. I decided last year this will be one of my 'forever bikes'.
One cornering issues i had in the past was the front end pushing too much. While doing some research, I found a few guys that said they were running 100mm to 102mm of sage. I was running 105mm and switched to 100mm and it fixed the push in the corners.
Aside from the wide tank/shroud area, im really enjoying this bike. Ive gotten so comfortable on it, that ive been hitting some trickier jumps sections on my track that I never did before with the smoker.

Yeah on the 'Forever Bike' thing... I'm at an age and place in life (41) where I can now look at bikes in a new way. I can keep bikes I like and not have to sell every bike to fund the next bike. Helps I have a humungous shop/garage too. I look at that TC250, which is sublime, and look at the mods I already had in it (nothing crazy at the time, but still) and it's like.. do I really need to sell it on the used market $4,500? $5,500? Not get anywhere near the money I put into it back?
I look at a badass built 2005 KX250, or like a rad 1998 CR250. When they are built right and taken care of, they are still a joy to ride 20 years later... so that's how I'm now viewing the TC. I'm throwing the works at it, slowly (hell I bought the bike in 2016...), and in the end will have a bike 14 year old me only dreamed about. That's pretty cool and the reality is 5 years from now I'll be 46, 10 years I'll be 51... I'm pretty sure my loaded TC250 will still be blowing my socks off.
Shit I have a 2006 Yamaha R1 that's 15 god damn years old and it's unreal. Granted it's fully loaded also.... but every time I ride it I'm amazed at how ridiculously good that bike is. I track it too. Hangs just fine with 'modern' bikes for all but front of pack expert level racing (which I used to do on an R6). That bike gets more looks when I roll out to bike nights because it's unique. That's a neat feeling.
Anyway, cheers.
Pit Row
- SXS brake calipers, incredible modulation, pairs perfectly with the instant on/off power of the 2 stroke
- Factory split triple clamps, provides the perfect amount of fork flex for the stiffer frames // sold mount bars
- Xact Pro (cone valve) fork/ Trax Shock. I'm pretty sure these bikes were designed with this suspension in mind
- Talon Ultralight hubs / A60 rims - the mud cleanout really works as advertised
- .75 base gasket - smooths out the bottom end, mid hits hard, top end is a joy to ride - perfect for HS/Enduros
- Pro Circuit exhaust
- V Force Reeds
- Guts lightweight seat (thanks Matthes for the discount code)
- Ti rear axle to try to offset some of the extra added weight
- A few other Ti bolts on things I frequently remove as it's easier to clean off the old Loctite and they don't corrode
These are "can do anything" bikes. Ultra fun.
What Service have you done with the Engine till now??
FWIW, I have an 06 R6 that I bought with the new redesign (have the book that it came with explaining the redesign etc) and I never want to sell it. If I get something else, I'll just add a new R1 to the garage. The 06 R1 will always be a looker.
Only one major rebuild at 255 hours:
- OEM Cylinder
- OEM crank kit (all the bearings)
- OEM gasket kit
- OEM piston and all the minor things like wrist pin
- OEM head and new washers/orings
- Vforce reeds
The guy who did the bottom end said that everything looked great and it did not need a new cylinder, crank, head or reeds. I did it just as a precaution.
I grease the linkage when I swap the suspension and try to do swingarm and steering head from time to time. I've gone through 3 seats as they sag after some time. Really it's been a great bike. The carb recently started giving me issues probably because of something I'm doing wrong. I know there's a gasket which goes bad--that's not the problem. I just ordered a Smart Cab to test.
I am looking at Pro Circuit and trying to decide between going with the Shorty or the regular length silencer.
Has anyone compared both? Curious on your findings.
Thanks!
I would still buy the PC for again, purely for performance, but would go in knowing that the fitment might be subpar.
What about the V Force Reeds? I know KTMs were coming with them stock for years but it doesnt seem like that is a thing these days.
Anyone tried the V-force 4R ? Any noticeable differences?
Rode the bike at the track yesterday and have to say that the way this bike finds traction is just amazing, it really feels similar to my 2017 450 SXF. KTM/Husky are doing something right with these 2 strokes!
I'm kinda contemplating getting a leftover 2020 SX 250.
