He does it every week. Once again he went from 19th to 6th in the second moto(actually I thought I saw him in 20th on the live timing). He also went from 10th to 6th in the first moto.

That said, I don't think he will win the outdoor next year, it will be tough again too, with JMart, Forkner, RJ, Cooper, Amart, his brother, Masterpool, etc. Indoor, it may be possible if he is on a different coast than Forkner.

If Alex Martin or Jo Shimoda (also a rookie on the same team who earned National number 84 instead of 83 by running the same number of races last season) got the same type of hype talk and air time as Jett, people would be saying the same things. "Wow Shimoda really is something." (which he is, by the way...they all are.).
I'm not saying J Lawrence isn't talented, but the focus on him this season drives me bonkers at times. If he's running in 2nd or 3rd, then sure, yes absolutely show him. But when he's back in 9th, and they skip over the 4th-8th place riders to talk about how much the Hunter family sacrificed to come to the US, I think it does an huge disservice to the guys in front of him who have probably sacrificed just as much to get to where they are.
He is developing this ”slice trough the pack„ ability that not everyone has (same as Ferrandis). A force to reckon next year.
Shane McElrath finished just ahead of him and they talked about him getting holeshots and going backwards.....not to mention the only thing notable about Shane is he acted like a baby and tried to undermine competitors in Salt Lake City....and then thanked the man above 857 times.
Jo Shimoda and Mitchell Harrison were nearby and they talked about him some...but what do they bring to the table for the audience? Not much.
I am not saying those riders are not incredible, because they are, but they really don't tell a story different than the others in the Top 20, but Jett and Hunter do. Be glad they are part of the sport and we need more riders showing who they are and being open, honest, and competitive.
He is a rookie, young, brother is racing on same team, from Australia (“just like chad reed who blahblahblah”) risked it all to come here (ralph
loves adversity), jett is outspoken/lot of personality, has that one sx crash racing ferrandis they can show the clip of a million times, he has barely missed the podium all outdoors, has the doughnut thing, has a lot of fans/followers, and the list goes on.
The broadcasts are about entertainment and keeping things moving and he is pretty entertaining and easy to talk about. He is also pretty darn fast and is not afraid to send it. Shimoda also has had great results as a rookie and definitely deserves a bit more attention especially being from Japan, but the long list of reasons above explains why jett is getting a lot of attention.
They don't do it on ball sports either. I've never heard on a soccer match: "you know Cristiano Ronaldo calls Messi blablabla".

For a long time it was fairly hard for Jo to speak English, he speaks Japanese everyday at home with his mom, grandpa and sister. His dad has a company in Japan so he see his dad roughly twice a year, and with covid I bet it’s been even harder.
I think Jo has a nice story, coming from the other side of the world, same as the Lawrences. Jo is more of an introvert so people don’t know about him. I moved by myself from France to SoCal so I know how they feel.
It gets harder to pass riders as you get closer to the lead.
It is a lot more impressive to go from 20th to 6th, than 40th to 15th
Only managed a single overtake in the first moto and two or three in the second.
