Who here has rode moss lake in the western U.P. Rode that place and halfway through I was wishing for deep dry sand and 4ft deep sand whoops.

I have ridden that before, alot of fun actually. Close to what I rode in Alabama when I lived there.

I personally liked Tin Cup. I didnt think it was sandy sandy because it had a good base to it but alot of whoops. If you want some moto training ride that loop a few times a week. Lol. Oh yeah its directional motorcycle only also so you dont need to worry about SXS or quads coming at ya.

I spent this last weekend riding in Michigan. We did C and B loop of the Tomahawk trail in Wolverine on Saturday and Evart on Sunday.

I would not recommend Evart for Kids.

The Tomahawk Trails are loops that are around 40ish miles each. Would be a big day for kids.

Kinda’ last minute but, I’ll be at the Tomahawk parking lot tomorrow around 10am if anyone here wants to tag along.

I rode Tommahawk trails last week, 3 straight days we hammered each loop until the end! It was dry last week but still good. Wish we had legal trails like this in NY.....we rented a house close by... it was a blast...

I used to ride these trails back in the late 90's. Was fun re-reading this thread. Also rode Drummond Island. Anyone know if there's still riding over there?

You can still ride Drummond Island. That place was my first ever trail ride in 1994. Brutal and kicked my butt. I’d love to go back now that I have a few years under my belt trail riding.

Drummond is awesome. Was just there before Labor Day, was driving a friend's mildly built Dodge Durango and a turbo RZR. I brought my CRF70 and took that on a few different trails though, I love it up there.

Edit: this also highlights that Drummond gets very muddy and wet. There typically are bypasses for bikes but you shouldn't be afraid of mud if you head up there.

If the OP is still looking for new places to ride…. I highly recommend this one. Denton Creek 50” ORV trail. Excellent trail, the best 50” I’ve ever ridden. Nothing to technical, no crazy hills and not very whooped out.

Lake County is sandy but has the best trail system IMO. Polaris Destination has an episode on youtube featuring Lake County MI.

Tin Cup ORV is pretty good but since we are a peninsula...always going to be sandy.

Just did all 3 loops in Tomahawk a few weekends ago…. It rained every nite and the trails were epic! Camped out right down the road from the trailheads, next to a small pond or lake. Wish we had something like that in NYS….

Rode Caberfae on Saturday, 04/23/22. Pretty tight single track. Pretty sure that we were the first bikes to touch it this year. At times it was very difficult to even see the trail. Huge amount of trees down.

I’ll be on the Kalkaska loop this weekend as well! If you see a gray KTM500 #724 it’s me so wave frantically hahaha. Certain to be at the Hideaway on Starvation Lake at some point
Pic is a couple weekends ago running the KAT around Slade, KY

I love Tin Cup. Has anyone rode Long Lake? That was the most technical, nasty trail I have ever ridden. It was seriously challenging.

How does Long Lake compare to Evart? I’m old and slow and to me they are all challenging. 😂

Long Lake is one of our favorites. Fast, technical, all the good stuff.

Moss Lake in the UP was great too, but that one cost us a few shrouds and fenders. Oh, and the mosquitoes...gotta keep moving!

Second photo is Moss Lake, the others are Long Lake. Good times!

Sweet! I rode Long Lake back in 2018... it had some really big hills that were full of roots and rocks and then some big downhills if I remember correctly. My buddy said it was like riding in a dried up river bed.

Evart is technical and challenging but Long Lake is way harder if I remember correctly.

Don't forget about the Gilligan's Island type quicksand, lol. One of the bigger downhills had a 5' shelf about halfway down, You couldn't see it until it was too late. I made it through because I didn't slow down, others in our group were not so lucky.

Yes, roots and rocks, my son was riding it on his 150sx, poor bike, lol.

My ride group has done a few trips up to the U.P. Over the years. It used to be awesome. Not sure what happen, but we went up last summer and found that most of the trails were overgrown and had not been maintained at all. The quad and sxs paths on the other hand looked very well used. This was heart breaking as the U.P. Used to have great single track.
The first snow of the previous winter was very wet, heavy and brought down a lot of trees on our trails. Certain areas got cleaned up and others with less traffic didn’t get touched. We had two winters in a row like that and cleaning it up totally sucked.

Putting together a group ride for Tomahawk. September 23-25. Staying at the Sturgeon Valley Campground.
And not organized by me, coincidence only, there is a charity ride for veterans suicide awareness taking place that same weekend. Supposed to be some sort of 24 hour run on the loops.
