Have had multiple friends move from so cal to tx, Utah and Idaho and they all hate it and regret moving. But have already sold homes left jobs and now stuck. One said his wife is ready to leave him and move back on her own. Said Salt Lake City is hell on earth. 😂

Sometimes I have to remind myself that there's a big difference between California, LA California and SF California. Dream world...we just kind push those cities into the sea

The dream would be Central California assuming you can afford enough land to make it worthwhile

California has multiple zones. I lived in the Bay Area for 5 years. There was some stuff I loved and some I hated. Traffic and cost of living drove me out. 850 sq ft homes in Santa Clara going for well over 1.2 million, due to the neighboring Apple city. Great to come back and visit though, driving fast cars in the hills and coast become more enjoyable than the MX to me though. The tracks IMO where not the best and now they shut 408 down I heard.

So Cal, I have no idea why anyone would want to live there. The weather is nice otherwise I don’t know what keeps people there. You read about the hey days of So Cal all the way up to the 90s but IMO those days are gone.

Good luck my friend. We have been completely overrun by out of state people (California, Washington, Utah). Home prices are no longer affordable and all the good hunting, fishing, riding is being closed off because California money has bought the land and closed off access. Most things that have made it a great place to live are being changed because those coming here are implementing the same things they are trying to get away from. We try to be very welcoming to all but it is sad to see those that have worked hard to make a living here struggle because the influx of people from other states. If you do move here shoot me a message I'd love to show you the amazing beauty of Idaho but leave your Californication at the front door. Hot tip change your plates and Oh and winters are COLD!!!!
I think it was those two guys from Texas that bought up about every available chunk of land, then shut it down. Even better, they got a bill passed to increase trespassing fines so they’ve monetized it and have patrols to look for people. There’s a video on youtube of one incident.

Electric by 2035?.... Sounds good to me! Some states just don’t give a shit about their environment. I wish we could fast forward 15 years and see the expression on your face when you’re the only one burning fossil fuels. The times are changing old man (I am assuming) and California is on the forefront. It would behoove you to embrace new technology rather than fight it.... and if that means quieter bikes and a cleaner environment, why would you? Unsure
I would absolutely love to hear your plan of how a rapid changeover in such a short period is even remotely feasible. I’ll wait. . .

This is a political stunt that sounds great on paper, nothing more. As awesome as it would be to have a switch over, we can’t even handle the current draw on our grid let alone an additional 10 million electric cars so unless we’re going to spend obscene amounts of money updating our grid over the next 15 years (with what money I have no idea) then this is just a pipe dream at best. If someone’s got a great solution to the lack of infrastructure then I’ll gladly jump on board, but there needs to be at least some sense of rationality here rather than just circumventing our governments checks and balance system to propose a completely irrational plan with nothing to back it up.

Moving to Salt Lake in a month and I can't wait.

Being that the moto scene out there has improved and it's close enough to CA that I can visit the tracks if I miss them.

I can't wait. This state is an absolute nightmare to live in if you make under $60k a year. Looking forward to actually being able to afford a house 😂
Everyone from CA came to UT during covid and realized how sweet it is. Hope you enjoy it here, don't tell anyone else to come.

My yearly car tags on 7 family vehicles are starting to wear on me.
I think that would happen in any state!

I followed the advice and 'got out while I could'. Now I'm stuck living beside hillbillies, rednecks, and meth-heads.

Some observations.

1. Where does the electricity come from? Someday people will realize the electricity they use must be generated. Someday these same people will realize 63% of the electricity currently being generated is from the combustion of hydrocarbons.

2. The times might be changing, in people's minds, but the laws of physics are NOT changing. There is NO "new" technology currently available, or on the horizon, to replace hydrocarbons as a viable fuel source. Renewables are not a viable option and battery storage still has to obey those pesky laws of physics.

3. Kalifornia can't provide it's comrades the electricity needed to meet their needs today let alone in 15 years. Anybody hear about the rolling blackouts!?!? Just wait and see what happens as people continue to increase demand imposed on the already strained electrical grid by plugging their vehicles into the hydrocarbon powered system.

Comical...

How will California, the place that already has rolling blackouts from an overused powergrid, add on over 20 million vehicles and power them too?

Reckon they haven’t thought that one through yet. Or how about when these electric vehicles are totaled or shit the bed. Where we gonna put all the batteries? Just trading one problem for another. Seems nearsighted.

Very chill vibe and the weather was awesome.
Shhhh, you need to keep this kind of info to yourself! Wink

Yeah, this article highlights some of the near-term issues with electric cars: https://www.wired.com/2016/03/teslas-electric-cars-might-not-green-thin… Not only issues with power generation, but also extra environmental costs in the production of components. Often we are just outsourcing our pollution to developing countries.

However, in the long run we are getting better at producing electricity from renewable sources. And surely electric vehicles will be more clean and efficient overall.

Not sure about all this business but to your first point, at least in California, most of the hydrocarbons that are burned are in the form of natural gas which is cheaper and able to be sourced domestically rather than gas/diesel. When fuel is burned in the power generation setting a gas turbine is used which is knocking on the door of 60% efficiency, where a gas car engine is in the neighborhood of 20-35% efficient.

Funny that Austin was referenced as a place famous people relocating to. Austin seemed a lot like CA when I’ve visited (without the pretty ocean).

I'm convinced that if someone invented a way to make electricity in your home for free with no pollution or strain on anything else, most people wouldn't use it.

Humans are our downfall, not California.

My problem with solar is even if I generate my own electricity through solar panels or a wind turbine or a bicycle powered generator for that matter and store the power in batteries, it's still "Illegal" for me to go off grid. I have an issue with that. Years ago I had a retail pool store and had to pay for trash pickup even though my cans were empty or not even put out. I couldn't "Not" have a service even though I didn't need it.
