Heard A-ray mention on the Pulp show a few weeks back that he's gone through a couple subframes.

This raises my question, I'm looking at a '17 Husky FC450. I'm a 320 lb A racer off-road with moto's during the week, will I have to worry about going through subframes?

I wondered about that also....I know he is riding sx but.......that doesn't sound good that they are breaking from normal use.

You'd bend the whole dam frame probably! I got mad respect for anyone that rides at that size, but I would assume that the husky sub could not handle your mass, especially riding at any kind of A level.

Maybe you could bolt up a ktm unit?

Heard that also, must be crashing? Either way not a good sponsor plug.

I've always wondered how the composite subframes hold up when i see them chilling around the shop. Funky for sure.

I wouldn't have thought they would break from 'normal use' but do you consider crashes part of normal use? I've seen plenty of bent subframes after crashes....composite doesn't bend.

I'm not so concerned about breaking them in a crash, that's what it is if it happens. I wonder if that's how A-Ray has broken his?
I just don't want to be breaking subframes under normal circumstances. And swapping to KTM subframe/plastics while it may work, I know won't be cheap.

I haven't bent any frames in my years yet, but I will tell you there's a local moto track that has a ski-type jump that you just send as far as you want... I have prayed for the frame to not break when landing.

If you're 320 and you rip. Fuck yeah you will. Along with a lot of other things.

But you probably don't, most of us don't. So you'll likely be fine.

I know at 210 lbs A level rider I wear out everything faster that almost everyone I know. I would assume A-ray broke his in a crash or maybe seat bouncing really hard on a Supercross track. I would think it could handle it for normal use. If your local Husky dealer is into the moto scene, maybe ask them how the subframes are holding up and if they'll do anything for you if it does become an issue.

2 of my good friends who are top Endurocross athletes race husky. They go through about 5 subframes each a season.

I'm a 205lb A class off roader that rides a fair bit of moto and I've broken a lot more crap than your average guy. I kill wheel bearings very easily and have actually bent a set of pegs and bent an aluminum sub frame with my fat ass before on a jacked landing. With adding an extra hundred or so pounds to that I would be scared of the husky composite Subframe. I've seen them break under normal use with a normal sized guy on them after 50-60 hours of woods racing. People don't realize the number of hours off-roaders put on a bike.

Alex broke a subframe on his Honda also. He was leading the LCQ at the time and had a DNF.

With that advice, I'd definitely steer clear

We sponsor Alex and he has broken some subframes. He is the only rider we have seen break them. Alex is a big guy and can break things I never though could be broken. We sell a lot of Husqvarna's and its never been an issue even with some nasty crashes. Same with the older Husaberg composite subframes. I put a ton of hours on a bike in a year myself racing off road and practicing and just trial riding. My last 2 personal bikes have been an FE and currently FX 350. The subframes have never been an issue. What guys do to bikes in professional SX is a whole different level of abuse.

My buddy is a C rider and broke his subframe on a 2020 fc450 within .2 hours in a first first moto crash.

I know multiple guys within my riding group that have broke them on TE300s. They're great bikes with garbage sub frames.

I'm a vet A rider, 190 lbs and ride mostly hard enduro. I've broken my subframe on my TE 300 twice.... this year. Anyone who says they're good is lying. They are cheaper (and super easy) to replace so I guess they have that going for them. I believe it was around $250 to replace both sides.

People who break stuff, will break anything they get on, same as people that blow bikes up will blow anything up they get on.

I wouldn’t worry about it. The carbon subframes are just as strong as their aluminum counterparts yet they don’t get bent out of shape in a crash. A hard enough hit will break them but you can replace the broken piece with minimal effort.

Im heavy as well and avoid ktms for that and steering stem. Happens too often to small people let alone a heavy guy. It might not ever happen but id be too paranoid. That being said id probably never try to huck the leap at redbud at my weight on any bike.

A-Ray going through subframes? That’s a shocker haha.

No but honestly I like the idea about the ktm subframe if you’re really concerned about it. I have seen a few break in crashes over the years never seen Or heard of a bigger guy break one from sheer weight though.

Didn't notice this was a 3 year old thread. But I have a friend who has broken a couple subframes on his 2020 Husky 250f, and not from crashes.

Buddy has broke 2 of them while riding, without a crash. Not sure if previous crashes led to the eventual break.

Husqy's subframes are weaker than others.
It's a known thing, couple of my friends had to change theirs after a crash.
Husqy took care of it, but still a pain in the ass
