blake bagget my pick of current riders.
Alessi does NOT belong on this list...he isn’t even close to the same class rider as windham, Bradshaw, musquin

Did he ever even win a 450 race?

Looks like Windham has 10 outdoor wins and 18 sx wins. Looks like he was the best to not win it.

Tortelli may be in the top 10 too. Had he took 1 year in lites, stayed at kawi, kept his coach vimond, and had a bit more luck injury wise (not even talking about the knee reconstruction to lost him 1 year and half), he may have had a very different career. In my mind, from all the french going to the US, he was the one with the most potential (even more than Bayle).

K Dub and Bradshaw. How neither of these 2 monsters never won a SX championship is mind numbing. Tells you how difficult it was back then racing against Stanton and RC and Stewart. Lechein also comes to mind. But, he was almost to lazy to kickstart his own bike...lol.

This. /\.

If you check The Vault it can get pretty crazy with the number of really good to great riders and you find yourself re thinking or over thinking it but Kevin raced in 3 decades and came 2nd to guys like Albertyn/Carmichael/Reed/ Dungey/ etc.

I was just going to add Trey Canard deserves an honorable mention here. This might be an oxymoron, but if Trey could have harnessed that speed without the injury's the era of the Ryan's would be a whole different story.

Windham.

BTW, anyone remember the race where KW was giving Stew a fit for a few laps? I think Windham eventually went down trying to scrub, but it was a good battle up to that point.
Houston in 2012. Saw that in person. It ultimately wound up being his last good race. To be fair, Stewart was riding that horrible 2012 YZ which he abandoned only a month or so later when he went to Suzuki. But Windham was on it that night...although old dog had no business scrubbing like the kiddies.

I can relate to these other worthy choices, but don't forget Larry Ward.
Riding on a Private team riding against Superman.
Surely he is up on the list.

Sure Alessi is not in the same class overall as Windham but in his Suzuki days you could make an argument he was one of the top 3-4 motocross riders in the world. He was the only one that tired against Stewart it seemed in 08 and in 09 he put over 30 points on Chad Reed in three races. 09 he started going 2-1-1 then injury.

If we are talking US only there is no doubt in my mind that the fastest guy not to win a 250 2stroke og 450 championship was Sebastien Tortelli - hands down. Windham had his best shot in 04 when RC was out during SX. But he was never consistently faster than RC, or even Reed in SX. Sebastien beat RC regularly in the outdoors, and IMO would have won had it not been for injuries and empty gas tanks. The 99 nationals were his until he crashed out. No one was even close to his speed. He also kept RC honest in 01 until his luck ran out.
