34 years ago, Dean Baker on the Honda in background brought us to the track sometimes.

This was taken in around 1975. My first 'dirt' bike was the DT175 and my buddy had the TS250.

My dad had that same bike. Is it gold paint on the tank?

This is the oldest picture I could find of me actually riding. I remember finally talking my sister into snapping a few for me on my Pentax 35mm. I am on my 1980 CR-80 spinning laps on a track I made in our yard. All the jumps and berms I made by taking dirt out of the cornfield with a shovel and wheelbarrow! Oh I miss those days!!

Yep and it looked great before my mate (sitting on it) put a dent in it that very day when he dropped it onto a tree stump. I was well pissed!

77 YZ-80.... my first real motorcycle. Friend was selling it (and the motor had an issue)...mom and pop said, you gotta earn the $$$ for it....did odd jobs around the neighborhood. I think it was about $175.00 IIRC. Had to earn more $$$ to pay for the parts to fix it. ...but Pop did the wrenching to fix it for me....all while teaching me how to work on my own stuff.

Man, that is straight up valuable life lessons you learned there. Work, reward, skills, family bond. Wonderful!!!

1968 Huntington Beach Ca. I am in the middle.

1981. My mom had passed away on Harris grade just past Cook's Corner and a few months later my older brother took me to this race. It was this race that began an addiction/passion for the sport that still exists today. One detail most people don't know is that Hannah actually turned back into Howerton and tried to yank him off the bike by wrapping his hands around his waist. He was unsuccessful and when his right hand came down it landed in the spokes of Howerton's rear wheel.

I had no idea how cool I was at the time with the Bassani pipe.
Preston Petty tool box/number plate because dad took us to Baja a fair bit. Glory days!!!

Me and my brother at Valle de Trinidad. He's on a MR-50. We would ride from Valley T up to Mike's with our dad in the van behind us keeping watch. My brother went on to ride the Baja 1,000 something like 22 times, being 250cc class champ a couple times and heading up the Honda B team effort a couple times.

My brother. Rigid frame QA-50. No helmet. Hang Ten shirt. Punk rock.

Indian Dunes. Too big for the YZ-80 (the monster shoulder pads don't help. haha) but we couldn't
afford a new bike. And who really cares? Just a kid having a shitload of fun. To this day, I still hold
my feet goofy like that in a turn. Arrrggghh!!! hahahha

Somewhere in Baja. A ranch just outside of Tecate, I think.

I remember racing at Village Park in Encinitas around 76. It was a one off Scrambles. We rode at the pits near there also in Olivenhain in the early 70's It was a great place to grow up in.

1968 or 69, I'm not sure. My dad missed out on getting me a K0 so I had to wait until they shipped the K1s. 1969 Z50K1, this picture was taken my first day.

Early days of racing Novice at Saddleback on my 77 RM--check out the kickstand! Laughing

I liked those bikes so much after I wore out the first one, I bought another and my parents never knew! Cheerful
Intermediate days practicing at our favorite track we made.

1974 - Winchester Indiana.
On the outside / '73 Elsinore 125
Orange street helmet / Jeans & a T-shirt / construction boots, & likely a crushed pack of cigarettes in my pocket.
Electrical tape # 11 for obvious reasons.

I'm not nearly as old as some members on here but I'll play along. Right out of high school I picked up a blown up 99 KX250 for $500 (2010ish). After a rebuild and a couple heat cycles i had to go try it out even if there was still a foot of snow.

Did you grow up in that area? I probably rode that same race.

Did you know an AMA race was held in the Olivenhain area in, I think, the late 60's? Let me see if I can dig up the clip..

Yep! Raced there a lot between 98 and 2000. My family and I drove up north for every GFI North series back then.
