First season of racing - 1985 on a hand me down 1983 RM60

Not sure which race it was, but definitely at the legendary (at least to the locals anyway) Maplehurst in Northern Illinois!

I really miss that track. Spent the 3rd Sunday Apr-Oct of the first 20 yrs of my life there.

No wonder Suzuki quit producing those RM60s...except for the graphics and front number plate, your '83 is identical to the '79 my buddy had.

Yeah. Pretty sure 83 was the last year for them.

If you look closely you can see the leather(ish) tank cover on there that matched the stock graphics. Was there to cover the large knee sized dent in the tank from one of my first rides on the bike. Older brother had it for 2 yrs with no issues and only took me about 30 min to smash it up.

'82-83 Sacramento Raceway, the old stadium track. Don't sleep on the duct taped work boots. The 16 behind me is Ryan Morais. No clue why it's upside down...

Dude 2011 was my first ever race and it was at sac raceway I was 4 on a P-dub now I’m on superminis my last race there was 2018 on an 85. Unfortunately that whole complex is shutting down soon for a new housing development. Wish the track was taken care of a bit better though

July 4th weekend 1980, it was hot as balls that day. I rolled back into the pits after this moto and fell over from heat exhaustion. The guy pitted next to me said I just rolled to a stop and fell over. He leaned me up against a tree and poured water over me. This is one of the only pics I have left of myself riding and it's water damaged.

Ok, I'm technically not riding but hey this is where it started. 1956 in South Carolina. It's an old Harley Hummer 125cc 2 stroke (minus engine). haha

What can I say, the folks were not for bikes, so no pee wee pics. Bought this used with gas station earnings when I was a senior in high school, probably spring 75.

Almost all of the pics of me when I was young disappeared when my Uncle died and my cousins turned it into a shit show, so I don't have much.

Indian Dunes on a Friday night, probably right around 1980. I do know I was not happy I got smoked by Kyle again.

This is not of me (lol)....but it's just too cool not to share in with all of these other old photos.

I've never seen this image before....I was watching Brian Lunniss on Whiskey Throttle Show and it was shown on the monitor behind them.

So very cool...so much history here.

Shoot, back then that wasn’t out of the norm.
A lot of us washed dishes or pumped gas for our first bike.

I mean, I don’t even remember seeing mini classes until what, the 80s?

Hey, to pull a Maico like that on your own dime was a very big thing.

I started racing in the mid ‘70’s - NESC New England, here I am at Southwick - 125 C Novice. *We’d usually have six (6) heats of 125 Novice, two (2) of 125 Amateur and one (1) 125 expert. Just 125’s/250’s and Opens. Nothing else.

Looks like the famed "Tower straight". Amazing how much Southwick has changed over the years.
