Where did you read that it is transmitted airborne? Everything that I have seen and read says its not. Transmission is person to person within a 1.8 meter radius.
So, there's no consensus on it. It depends on how much we can really believe China. ""Coronavirus can travel twice as far as official ‘safe distance’...

I honestly am going by common sense. When I go to church, I don't touch 300 people. Nor a doorway or handle.
When they are asymptomatic, means they aren't sneezing nor coughing

Yup, a mild fever and dry cough are enough to scare the world into a panic in 2020. Jeez..sounds absolutely terrifying...

How many times does it have to be said that’s only for the healthy population. This is to protect our at-risk members.

Statement from Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez on cancellation of mass gatherings
MIAMI ( March 12, 2020 ) — Miami-Dade County is under a state of emergency, as we deal with the public health threat of COVID-19.
Although we do not have community spread at this time, we want to take the preemptive steps to keep it that way. Therefore, I have decided to suspend the operation of the Miami-Dade County Youth Fair, the Miami Open tennis tournament, the MIA 5K run, and all major events at the American Airlines Arena. The March 22 NASCAR race at the Homestead Miami Speedway is postponed at this time. NASCAR officials will decide whether or not to hold the race without fans.

As we move forward together during this time, we will continue to monitor what the World Health Organization has determined is a global pandemic. We will constantly evaluate planned mass gatherings as the situation evolves.

I will be making future policy decisions regarding indoor events planned for more than 250 people based on federal and state health officials’ guidance.

In addition, I am recommending that smaller gatherings, if they’re not essential, also be reconsidered.

That's very concerning. The problem is that this is the kind of information that can cause panic. People feel like they have some measure of control of the situation if they believe that they can prevent transmission with hand washing, hand sanitizer, not touching their face, etc. This removes that sense of control and makes the virus seem like a ubiquitous threat that can get you no matter what you do. That may not be rational, but people rarely are.

Posted this in another thread. Read the link. Great info on why its good to be cautious. No need for hysteria, but caution is very warranted.

A good read for all the armchair epidemiologists and public health experts here:

TL;DR isolation is critical to keep key resources from being Overwhelmed if this thing explodes like it has in other countries and to keep vulnerable population as safe as possible.

Isolation is the short term equivalent of pack immunity or widespread use of vaccines. This is a great analog to why vaccines are important for other critical things.

And that’s exactly why it’s important to cancel events, voluntarily isolate yourself, etc. gotta slow the outbreak so the healthcare system doesn’t get overwhelmed with patients who are compromised before the virus hits them.

All these cancellations are just lip service and bullshit. Atlanta airport has 300,000 people a day through it, this is Atlanta airport alone, Las Vegas casinos, average 3000 visitors a day, average cruise ship 3000 people yet not a whisper of shutting any of those down. My wife works in a casino in Bossier LA, the state police asked All casinos for an emergency contingency plan should the Wuhan China virus show up in their casino not one not a single one said shut the facility down. It was all clean and sanitize BS. Get serious about stopping it or give up and let it run its course and be done. A vaccine will be available by next year and it will be a distant memory.

Not a distant memory for the people who have lost loved ones. I just had to tell my elderly neighbor I couldn’t help her clean up broken glass in her house after she dropped a jar. Her husband is in the hospital with kidney failure and pneumonia. I’m having to quarantine myself and my family because I was in contact with a person who tested positive for this shit.

I understand and do sympathize completely which is my point, shut down stuff that matters to get it stopped. Playing whack a mole with small venues here and there and stop where it’s being transmitted. It is only going to prolong it with more contamination and death.

At this point it’s not about stopping the virus but lowering the peak and flattening the distribution curve to allow the national health systems time to prepare and cope now with the high risk cases. I’ve accepted we will all at some point get this sickness. The goal now is about protecting our parents or grandparents and ensuring they having access to medical care.

Meanwhile here in Switzerland everything is effectively in lockdown. Schools are closed, and using public transport (which a very high proportion of us use) is discouraged. Gatherings over 100 people are not allowed. I will be working from home as of Monday. Luckily i told my wife to stock up yesterday so we beat the big panic which may or may not happen tomorrow morning.

I am currently sitting on a plane, waiting for a gate to open up so we can disembark here at Seattle. Flew out of Medford Oregon this morning. The plane is only about 1/4 full. I think things are going to be rough for the airlines for a while. I am flying on over to Spokane in a couple of hours.
No one wearing masks or anything on this flight.

Suppose you catch the virus. You will give it to 3 other people, and they will each give it to three others, and so forth. Here is how the math works, where you, the “index case,” are the first line:
1
3
9
27
81
243
729
2,187
6,561
19,683
59,046
177,147
531,441
1,594,323
4,782,969
14,348,907

So, in just 15 steps of transmission, the virus has gone from just one index case to 14.3 million other people. Those 15 steps might take only a few weeks. The index person may be young and healthy, but many of those 14 million people will be old and sick, and they will likely die because they got a virus that started in one person's throat.

I think that the r-nought is right around 2.2 right now, but the concept is the same.

Hopefully cancelling these large events and major travel is helping lessen that spread. It sucks many are freaking out and rushing to the store, doing the actual opposite of what should be done and opening themselves up to possible infection. If our measures do work though, it’ll also suck because so many people will be like see, it wasn’t such a big deal. Everyone was freaking out for no reason.

I think you can have the economy destroyed by trying to mitigate the spread and not overload the healthcare system, or you can have the economy destroyed trying to keep business as normal and have a steep curve with many more deaths. Take your pick.

‘Importantly, a disease’s R0 value only applies when everyone in a population is completely vulnerable to the disease. This means:

no one has been vaccinated
no one has had the disease before
there’s no way to control the spread of the disease’
