Nothing heals better than sleep and limiting your interactions with people.
Sick or not, I love to sleep and do my best to limit my interactions with people Laughing

How many people died in car accidents around the world today?

Just some food for thought....

At this rate I wouldn't be surprised if they cancelled the Italian GP at Trentino on April 6th.

A couple I know recently returned from skiing in the Dolomites (Northern Italy). They assumed they were far enough away from the high risk areas and safer still in a small ski resort, but one of their party was diagnosed with coronavirus on Wednesday, just a few days after getting home to the UK.

Just curious if any of you are living life normally? Am I a fool to be going to work, out to eat, shopping, riding etc? I’ve always kept hand sanitizer around to keep my hands clean, that’s normal practice for a 60 year old who doesn’t want to get the flu/colds. Let me know if I should run to Costco and stock up the work sheds with canned goods, mask and disinfectants. I will also call all of my clients and let them know their half finished houses will have to wait until this thing blows over...if we make it out alive 🙄

Here's where they lose me, anyone who questions anything gets shouted down and labeled.

“There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.” - Asimov

It's times like this that I appreciate working on remodels alone. A lot of work coming in and I'll just keep putting in long days until it slows down , but there is a hell of a lot of work coming in at the moment! The panic from CV seems to of slowed down a little. But just stay vigilant with keeping your hands clean and keep them away from your face until you have them clean. Be smart is all I'm saying.

Here's another thing, why can't the riders just wear gloves and they can put up some kind of shield like they do at a salad bar?

Are you suggesting that cold and flu type illnesses are not most common in the winter months, because they absolutely are. That’s why ‘flu season’ is a thing

Pretty simple really...

WASH YOUR F-ING HANDS!

Don't blame Roczen one bit for this and wouldn't be surprised to see more riders follow suit. My wife is a germaphobe and i used to give her a hard time about it. Eventually, she pointed out enough of the gross shit we do as humans during our day to day routines and i have gladly adopted some of her practices.....

Better safe than sorry I guess.

Unfortunately, everything is politicized now - especially in an election year.

Does one political party benefit if something is overblown, leading to mass hysteria and dissatisfaction with the current administration?

And look at the bright side.

If one of us relatively young, healthy dirt bike enthusiasts gets CV and dies from it, we'd be the very first in the USA to do so!

And as far as the “There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.” - Asimov, quote goes, that could be taken in a few ways.

One interpretation could certainly be that anybody who goes against the 'common knowledge' has to be wrong. Common knowledge is never incorrect, right?

Just listen to the talking heads on TV and disregard that so much of the 'common knowledge' is for sale, to the highest bidder!

By all means, Do Not Think for Yourself!

Actually if you read up on it, it's said that the virus doesn't survive as well in hotter climate.

It's worth mentioning that even if you survive, the virus causes permanent lung damage. This shit could ruin these guys careers.

You bet we are living life normally We are still eating in restaurants, going to work, going to social functions, going to the gym. Spent time last week in the ER for a family member who was injured. I do not see any change here in San Diego, people are going about their lives.

Quick search shows cancer death rates in the US in a year....roughly 135K.....automobile deaths in the us per year...roughly 38K. The flu kills how people every year? It's called life. People are freaking out as usual....driven by the media.

Of course you should take precautions (hand washing etc), just like any flu season. ...and again, I don't blame Roczen others for taking extra precautions. They have a lot on the line.

Gotta love the keyboard commandos with the personal attacks behind the safety of a keyboard....

Quick question - what is the mortality rate of coronavirus among healthy adults in the USA?

Bonus round - what is the mortality rate of coronavirus among healthy children in the USA?

So far, the CDC has estimated (based on weekly influenza surveillance data) that at least 12,000 people have died from influenza between Oct. 1, 2019 through Feb. 1, 2020, and the number of deaths may be as high as 30,000.Feb 11, 2020

COVID-19: Approximately 97,870 cases worldwide; 209 cases in the U.S. as of Mar. 5, 2020.
Flu: Estimated 1 billion cases worldwide; 9.3 million to 45 million cases in the U.S. per year.

COVID-19: Approximately 3,347 deaths reported worldwide; 11 deaths in the U.S., as of Mar. 5, 2020.
Flu: 291,000 to 646,000 deaths worldwide; 12,000 to 61,000 deaths in the U.S. per year.
Source: John Hopkins Medicine

COVID-19: 3.41% death rate globally, 3.79% in the US (above the global average!)
Flu: 0.0291% to 0.0646 death rate

Based on that data, and some quick math, coronavirus is between 5,178% to 11,618% times more deadly that influenza. It is a new virus we've never seen, and spreads easily. The world's heath organizations, and the best minds on the planet are concerned, but hey, you think it's a big hoax. Let's all rub some essential oil on it and pray it away!

The coronavirus symptoms are nearly identical to the flu. How many people had the coronavirus and thought it was the flu?

That is the piece of data that is missing from the death rate calculation....

Not a risk averse person, but COVID-19 is risky business. All fine and dandy to be a bad ass that’s not worried, and live your life 100... until you or someone you care about gets it.
Young and healthy wife got H1N1 in 2009, almost killed her. Antibiotics weren’t working, ended up 1 1/2 lungs filled, gray skin due to lack of oxygen.
Serious shit to be taken seriously. Don’t be a dumbass.

What no answers?

Are we back to the 'reading is hard' thing?

Or just the answer wouldn't fit the narrative?

Any answer wouldn't be that meaningful considering we're in the beginning stages of an outbreak in many places concurrently and any data for your question is subject to change daily.

Life as normal here in Salt Lake. Nobody staying home, no runs on big box stores. I'm going to a comedy club tonight. Traffic is the same. Movie theaters are full, yada yada. Big concerts are all still selling out, nobody is walking around with masks on. Wash your hands, make smart choices but don't live in fear.

I'm guessing if the answer to those questions were some big number, you'd know it & be ready to put it out there.

Since I asked the question today, I'm fine with an answer as of today.

I think we're (mostly) all adults here. We can each decide what is meaningful & what isn't.
