Sure. If it's done in fun, and not intended to start a barroom brawl

Cracks me up how the same people who are calling Steve soft and easily offended are the same people who throw toddler-level tantrums when their posts/threads get deleted. Pot, meet kettle.

I think it's important to remember that a lot of people here have been around since the Fresh Dirt and Motodrive days, when noob bashing was a tradition.

Old habits are hard to break.

What cracks me up about this thread, is that there are guys with post counts under 100 questioning Mr. Gibberson's moderating methods.

I've seen many, many, many members over the years, bitching and moaning about Steve's "authoritarianism," and every one of them was a button pusher who didn't know when to quit.

Looks like that's still the trend.

I'd say consistency is in the eye of the beholder. You have your opinion. I have mine.

But one of the two of us has been doing this for about 20 years. I think I've been reasonably consistent over that span of time. I've also learned a lot about human behavior.
yet YOU started a thread about forum moderation knowing that there are many, many people frustrated by your moderation. You know as well as I do that it's an ongoing discussion (that you clip).

Correct. And you're getting far more explanation on the how and why than in the past. That was the purpose of this. Maybe you can learn something in here.

Guy B and his band of moderators do a pretty good job overall. Moderating is a pretty thankless job.
I've been a moderator on another board.... being a "thankless job" is an understatement! Sniveling pre-school behavior, trolls and bomb-throwers.....good times.

Like I said earlier...I'm relatively new here.... I assume "clipped" means banned. If so....is it a temp ban or ban-hammer permaban?

It depends. Repeat offenders might get a permanent timeout. For others, it's just supposed to be an attention-getter or just as a way of separate warring factions.

Some of the low post-count guys doing the questioning are not on their first...or second...account.

You're correct on the not knowing when to quit thing. Wink

I'm not down with the personal insults. You can go to a local race, or even a national race for that matter and get along with just about everybody because you share that one thing in common: Dirt bikes.

Go online, and it's a sh*tfest, and people end up hating each other.

Yeah, like everywhere else, this is a form of social media. But we don't want it to be anti-social media. It's also not the Wild West. If you want that, you can try IG, FB, Youtube, etc.

As I stated in another recent thread, I would think that posters mocking, ridiculing, or basically having a fit about the sincere religious beliefs of others should be clipped.
It seems that bashing religion is tolerated much more than politics, and probably has driven away some people.

Look at the message above Grant's comment. Should be pretty self-explanatory.

I see nothing triggering above Grant's comment. The worst thing I see is that he expressed his opinion and called the guy a "dolt"... by definition that means "a dull person". I mean how many times did Jim call Lorenzo Locurcio by the name "La-crease-o"?

How about this guy using these words and gets off scott free. Do people even get warnings or is it black and white, on and off, binary. If a thread is offensive why not just delete the thread?

Stating your religious beliefs is the quickest way to start a shit storm. Freedom of religion also means freedom FROM religion. Religion pretty much assures a disagreement/argument any time the subject is broached. That's why it's taboo....same as politics. A rider that thanks God for keeping him safe is making a personal statement. On Vital, one might feel the same but it's a discussion board which invites opposing and often vitriolic replies. There are countless religious discussion forums on the internet...this isn't the place. Anyone remember the Flying Spaghetti Monster threads?
